Prey: A Character Driven RP [FINISHED]

Gabriel gave Zetta a miniscule nod before returning his gaze back to the woman.

"Alright! Alright, I'll give you your sword." he said. He kept his gaze at her, his hands only slightly in front of him. When he'd exited the kitchen, he bolted to where he had put down Takeda. Sure enough, the gleaming case of Excalibur was there next to the couch. He grabbed it, but was suddenly stopped in his tracks. He gazed at the box, and his right hand moved to open it. Surprisingly, the sword was pretty plain; no decorative ornaments or giant gemstones. But the simplicity gave it that much more nobility. He reached for the hilt, and it was as if a current was running through it.

Without a second thought he dropped the box and headed for the kitchen. He swung the blade towards the woman even before he had entered the room and shouted something incomprehenable, even to himself. A lightningbolt spring from the blade and cut through the room, paired with the sound of thunder.

<spoiler=This>...was pretty much agreed on beforhand. Don't worry, Gabriel'll lose the thing pretty soon.

Dr. Strauss reached for Maya's shoulder, as if to pat it, but then fought that urge off. He was wearing his gloves yes, but they might have been stretched too far when punched that woman out and ran with Maya... he couldn't take the risk. He pulled his hand away before it got too close to Maya.

"You have nothing to fear from my... colleague here," Dr. Strauss said to Maya, "His name is Alec... he has a special power... like me... and apparently everyone you and I seem to meet now," he cracked a smile wondering how his sense of humor had come back.

A waitress arrived with the menu and asked for their orders in French.

"Bugger," Dr. Strauss swore under his breath, hoping that Maya didn't hear him. He didn't even know how to say "I don't speak French."

He turned to Alec, "Uh... I don't suppose you know how to speak French, do you?"

"Quatre cafés et un verre d'eau" Lily said from behind the waitress kindly, a hand gently on her shoulder, then added in English to Maya "Do you want something to eat, sweetie?" She asked, illiciting only a small request for something Chinese that Lily didn't know. "Et aussi deux trenches de toast s'il vous plait." she added with a smile. She slipped into the booth on the other side of the table, Blackrose filing in behind her. "I suppose it's best that we do this in a public place, but before we do anything, full disclosure. My name is Lily, I'm a telekinetic." she said, raising a salt shaker and flipping it over, letting the contents pour out into a mirror of the inner of the receptacle. She left it there, sitting in the air like a physics defying egg timer for the three to watch, hoping that nothing was wrong back at the house. "Your turn" she said, pointing at Alec.

"Lily!" Maya squeaked when she saw the woman appear besides her and shuffled closer to her, but didn't stray too far from Dr. Strauss either. "This is Jared, I think he's..." but she didn't finish her sentence as she was instead captivated by the floating salt-shaker "I wish I could do that..." she said breathlessly "It's not fair, everyone has better magic than me!"

The small girl was about to sulk but it was then the drinks and toast Lily ordered arrived. The warm scent was irresistible to the hungry child and she snatched one off the plate as soon as the waitress put it in front of her and began eagerly stuffing it into her mouth, spilling crumbs all over the table and seat.

Rin nodded in reply to Zetta's impassioned speech and grinned maliciously.

"I'm just doing what's best for our world and our people, you haven't seen what lies ahead. It isn't pretty and sometimes sacrifices have to be made, like your fellow gang members who walked right into that trap I set up... oops, did I just give something away?"

She laughed, but it was then that Gabriel leapt through the kitchen and swung Excalibur in the direction of Rin and Maurice, a lightning bolt shooting towards them. A cracking noise filled the air and Zetta's uncle flew out of the woman's grip to collide with a wall, collapsing in a heap at the bottom. His shirt was singed and he looked dazed but was evidently still alive. Rin herself tried to duck out of the way of Gabriel's enhanced powers but she too was hit, half-diving and half-falling beneath the table. A moment later she back on her feet however, limping slightly but she lunged determined towards him regardless.

"I won't let you get away with this" she snarled "First you kill my lover, then you try interfere with what has been foretold for over a millennia!"

Gabriel remained stoic, trying to get the long sword between him and his assailant,to pin her onto the polished steel. Her sudden tackling motion was too fast for him, and she nealy knocked him off his feet. He tightened his grip on the sword as her grip around his wrist did the same. He threw her off him, and followed with a high arc of the sword again. He missed, but cut right through the table she had been under not moments ago. The two halves lit up, and the varnished wood began to smoke profusely making it hard to see or breathe properly.

Zetta only had time to think that she and Gabriel really needed to go find Maya and Lily before the man practically flew at Rin with Excalibur in his hand. She let out a shriek as she saw her uncle smash against the wall and turned from Rin and Gabriel to go to his side. "Are you alright?" she asked, pulling him into a sitting position against the wall. Maurice just groaned, his eyes rolling up into the back of his head. So he'd just been knocked unconscious. His head would hurt like hell, but he'd be alright.

Zetta turned back to look at the two fighers as Rin shouted something. Zetta could barely follow what the two were doing when Excalibur cut through the table and that part of the room filled with smoke. Aware that she'd only get herself hurt if she tried to step in to fight herself, Zetta tried to distract Rin another way.

"Your lover, huh? Must have been weird anyway, being with a man alive since the time of King Arthur. A person has no right to live as long as that, anyway. Once again, I think your interpretation of demons might be a little backwards."

"I don't know if I can make things float, but I can be useful enough, just not gravity gun type useful, gosh I loved that one game. So anyways, I'm Alec. I really don't know why I was at your house but, I think Rin brought me here, by force. I was supposed to find her and get the sword to Tao Zheng. I really don't think that they're evil or anything, quite the opposite, and I never doubted that until I got shot by one of them, saw them create a massive car pile-up by shooting down a police car, and I think I've said too much..."

Beep, beep,BEEEEEEP

Maya didn't understand much about what Alec was babbling on about, even to her he seemed rather immature for an adult. Dr. Strauss wasn't any more interesting either, he appeared to be staring out of the window with a distant expression on his face. She turned her attention back to Lily and put out her hand to nudge her leg gently.

"Lily..." she asked quietly "Are you going to fight with these people?"

With Gabriel temporarily halted by smoke, Rin turned briefly to reply to Zetta in a harsh voice, hated burning in her eyes.

"I may not look it but I'm not so young myself. Anyway, he had far more right to live than you, spawn of one of those who right now are tearing at the fabric of our world, bringing fire and death with them!"

The woman then charged at Gabriel, reaching out and grabbing one of his wrists before attempting to wrestle the sword off him.

"Lily's a nice name..." Dr. Strauss said hollowly, still staring out into nothing, "Mary and I had a lot of trouble naming our first daughter. We thought of Lily... it just didn't seem to fit though. We always seemed to like the name, even though we never named our daughters Lily. Emily was the oldest... she always liked drawing on everything. Amelia was such a clever little girl... she was always..." Dr. Strauss paused for a moment, then went on... still as if he were in a dream and could wake up at any moment, "Sunny was the youngest... she was so adventurous... always climbing on anything taller than her. Mary and I thought that if we had another girl after Sunny... we might name her Lily... we liked that name."

Dr. Strauss sneezed; which seemed to snap him out of it. He blinked and looked at everyone.

"That's a nifty trick you can do there, Lily. Fairly akin to my abilities, being how they are both controlled by the mind." Blackrose mused, grabbing the ashtray at the end of the table and pulling it near her. She pulled a cigarette out of her backpack and lit it, flicking the ash into the ashtray.

Listening to Strauss ramble, Blackrose tried to tap into his mind and figure out what he was thinking, and felt a wave of familiarity crash into him. Releasing herself from his mind, she made a mental note to talk to him about it later, but left herself with one question she thought would benefit everyone's knowledge.

"So, Strauss, why did you run off with Maya all of a sudden?" She asked, taking a drag off of the cigarette flicking the ash into the tray. "Also, do you know how we're going to pay for the food?" She said, grabbing a piece of the toast and crunching into it.

Dr. Strauss paused for a few moments, trying to work it out for himself; eventually. He sighed.

"I don't know," he said, "I didn't really think about it at the time. I just... found myself worried about Maya's safety... She seemed to be malnourished, which is typically a sign of abuse. I... I couldn't stand that." He looked at Lily, "I'm really sorry about hitting you. I acted... rashly. All I knew at the moment was that Maya looked like she had suffered a lot... I just assumed it was your fault... though... judging from her reaction... I was clearly wrong about that. I didn't stop to think... I just knew that I had to get her out of there. I've seen too many children die. I couldn't let that happen again."


Dr. Strauss searched his pockets. He only had a few Pounds on him.

"Damn," he swore under his breath, "I don't suppose anyone here is a human ATM or something?"

"Don't worry, I have this" Lily said, digging a ?20 note from her pocket after quickly tallying up the four coffees and toast. She definitely wasn't paying for tap water. "Also, you may want to check yourself, it was-" she stopped herself before letting Zetta's name slip "My friend" she said with barely a hesitation. She turned back to Blackrose "By the way, what is your other power? I only really know the one you showed me on the way over." she said, careful not to let slip what the power was, lest she not want it revealed.

Whilst she had been munching her toast hungrily, Maya had been listening to what the adults had been talking about. She watched with a little comtempt when she saw Blackrose lighting up a cigarette.

"Smoking makes you die" she told the woman in a serious tone "it turns your lungs dirty and yucky"

The young girl then turned back to Dr. Strauss to ask something she had been wondering since he mentioned his daughters to Lily.

"Where are your children now? Do they have magic too?"

Dr. Strauss looked at Maya, his eyes seemed to water a little but that was all. Somehow... he didn't feel his memories pulling at him. But it was still difficult to talk about.

"I..." he paused again.

No... she wouldn't understand... and this certainly isn't the place.

"They are gone." he said slowly, struggling to get the words out, "I don't know if they had any powers. But I do." he uttered those last three words in a tone of utter, if quiet, contempt; "My baby girls are gone."

 

[i don't know]

"Um Strauss? Remember the time I got shot with whatever at Tao Zheng and you didn't remove the tracking thingamajig? I think it's sending a Morse code signal to Dr.Yang. He might have already killed Mr.Kimura and he might be headed here right now if this thing doesn't get removed. Oh, and sorry for your loss...es but I really think that we're all in great danger right now."

Alec became paranoid of the passing cars and the blue light in his chest lowed once more.

Maya was confused and disappointed in equal measures by Dr. Strauss's reply, she had been hoping that his daughters could be friends for her to play with. Though most of the adults she had met since yesterday had been nice to her, they weren't much fun to be with... at least not like Takeda had been. She didn't understand what he meant by "gone" and wondered whether they had been taken away by bad people. She ignored Alec as he babbled on again and instead turned back to Dr. Strauss.

"Where have they gone? Do they live far away?" she asked curiously whilst sipping the glass of water that Lily had ordered for her.

Dr. Strauss inhaled sharply as Alec spoke.

"Any idea where the tracker is, Alec? Hmm..." he paused to think, and reached into a pocket, there was a scalpel in there of course there was , "I might be able to remove that but... all I have on me is a scalpel."


Dr. Strauss turned his attention back on Maya.

"My daughters... lived in England with me and my wife Mary..." he stopped, "... I'll tell you about it later, I promise."

The sudden tugging on his wrist surprised Gabriel. He was pulled forward, falling on the hard wooden floor, and lost grip on the sword in his other hand. It spun once, and slammed into the wooden floor, wobbling on impact. Rin released her hold on Gabriels wrist and lunged for the sword. Gabriel, still finding his balance, suddenly felt a great loss, and despair of getting the sword back. His vision seemed to consist only of Rin's hand and the grip of the sword, the two converging with each breath.

He quickly jumped back onto his feet, Rin's fingers brushing the leather of the grip now. Without thinking he threw a punch and hit her right in the face. He felt his own knuckles pop under the uncontrolled punch, but saw Rin reel away from the sword. He grinned, with a satisfied chuckle escaping him.

"What, are the police going to show up again?" Blackrose snorted, blowing smoke out of her mouth. "There are 5 of us, shouldn't be to hard to take them down, right?" She said, turning to Maya.

"And Maya, trust me, I don't need ya' to tell me that smoking can kill me." She chuckled, sliding her a piece of the bread.

"Well I'm not going to retrieve my ballistic means of offence" Lily said quickly, using long words so Maya wouldn't understand "But if you delegate negatively to inform myself as to why you have a mechanism for relaying your global latitude and longitude to presumably a high degree of accuracy within the temporal parameters of the next sixty arbitrary units, I will be placed under circumstances where I will have to terminate you as a precautionary measure for the further protection of my own person and the malnourished juvenile under my supervision." Lily looked at the others, but received only blank looks in return. "OK, never mind. Why do you have a tracking device?" she asked, dropping the threat.
