I virtually alway do it. Nope, I've really got nothing to do.
Plus, it's useful to know what you can be banned for.

Sometimes yeah. I'm just a really curious person and well it always nice to see what caused the bann.

I do, curiosity usually gets the better of me. I usually like to see what the crime was too.

Yes, always. :p

This probation was a bit of a disappointment though. I seem to recall my last one had something to do with justifying rape.

Yeah, I always do, suspensions, probations and bans. The bans are usually the most entertaining.

Almost always. It's usually to see what they did to deserve it so that I can avoid the same fate but sometimes the thread title's just too hilarious.

Also, it's interesting to see whether the ban/suspension/probation seemed deserved or not. Generally, I think the mods strike a pretty good balance, more so than most other sites I frequent where things are either so controlled I'm scared to post or so lenient I'm scared to read others' posts.

Yep. The official rules are a little bit nebulous, so I like to study what I can't do here in order to avoid moderator wrath. This is a lesson I learned early in life: "learning from the mistakes of others is much less painful than learning from your own".

...so far I've gotten one warning for participating in an argument... and it was a public one, not a private message... I think I've been lucky.

Yeah, I do this a lot. I hate it that yesterday I saw someone banned and there was no link to the post that showed why...
It probably means that the thread they got banned in was locked and deleted. It happens often.
A ban with no post associated with it is usually a Staff-applied ban for reasons outside of posting on the forums. The Tech Team tends to use it when we discover people banjumping, attempting thread/post flood attacks on the site, and other various things that don't make sense for us to track down a post to tie it to.

Yes, cause I god damn hate the mods on this site, this arrogant dipshits
GO AHEAD AND BAN ME
I say this because there have been several cases where I have seen people making generally hilarious, not trolling, appropriate comments and getting the stick for it. Along with people making genuine points and getting the stick.

My own personal case is when I posted what seemed like a decent, structured, none flamy post and got suspended for it. Their reason was "It was entirely negative".
WELL SORRY MOTHER, I FORGOT EVERYBODY HERE IS FIVE YEARS OLD, I'LL GO STAND IN THE CORNER

Well I'll see y'all in a few weeks, this is my last chance to do something bad before a ban, might as well hate the mods.
Did you appeal it?

I can't speak for the staff involved in reviewing appeal cases, but I can't imagine attempting to publicly declare yourself a martyr on the forums is going to win you any points with them.

I tend to look, and I usually end up thinking "what's the big deal?" I especially take note now since I've been put on probation once for insulting somebody...Konata from Lucky Star. Seriously. I was put on probation for personally insulting a fictitious character. Gotta love the mods.

I do click, yes. Occasionally find a case where I have NO IDEA why the comment was probation worthy. Ah, well.

EDIT: Which isn't to say there isn't plenty of stuff that is totally worthy of probation.

Oh hell yes, I always click those little red links. Watching other people crash and burn for the stupid things they should have never posted (but did anyways in a spectacular lapse of judgment) is highly amusing - it's always immensely disappointing when the link points to a "page not found" error, because I crave my precious schadenfreude damn it!

Finding out what gets other people into trouble might also be considered educational, but really the trick to not inciting moderator wrath is just common sense. Frankly, if I were in charge things would be much more draconian - I am after all a fellow who, on a much smaller forum mind you, systematically went about editing everyone's posts to correct their myriad grammatical and spelling errors. Those were (ostensibly!) my friends - when dealing with a collection of random strangers I would probably treat every instance of threads or responses wallowing in the undiluted effluence that is "text speech" as cancerous growths that must be forcibly "cut out" of the host so that the average level of intelligent discourse rises.

So it's probably a good thing for all those folks who are too damn lazy to communicate in bloody English that I'm not in charge of what constitutes "breaches of the code of conduct", because man would I be dealing out wrath like nobody's business.

Lol, sometimes, just to see what the mods consider banning/probation for.

Sometimes I disagree with the decision but sadly, nothing you can do.
I say protest the decision if you don't agree with it. I got a warning for something stupid, writing a one-word answer to a post. I am serious thinking about writing anonymous about this.

Ahaha!
My Ex got put on probation just because he used an image which had three words on. He then put "This:" above the image. Because the image already stated what he wanted to "say", he didnt think it was necessary to probate him for it. The Mods didnt care, they didnt like the "one word answer", and it was his first offence also. If I remember, he did eventually win his case and it was taken off, but he realised that they were watching him after, so the next little thing he did, he was put back on probation for. So he got cocky and bad tempered, messaged the mod, and got banned for messaging them.
