While I'm tempted to just stare at the screen and say "What." about a thousand times to the connection of Dead Island to Borderlands, I'm overjoyed by the fact that it's not like Heavy Rain.
^ This exactly.

I kinda figured that Heavy Rain was running on hype fuel so when I saw this video originally I thought that someone had already ripped it off and because HR took so much time to develop I figured that DI would be a supremely rushed shitty copy.

Now that Ive heard it will be morel like Borderlands I am excited. An open sandbox zombie survival game. I think that's what the genera needs to stay "classy"? Classy may not be the right word but I think a good sandbox zombie game will be cool. (Yes dead-rising was good, but it could have been WAY better)

Meh. Bored now. If I wanted to play a game "like" any of the games it's comparing itself to, I'd just play those games. Only I never want to play Borderlands again, because that was approximately the most boring game I could ever fathom playing... "do it again, but with zombies" isn't exactly my idea of stirring gameplay. Can't I just go play any of the other umpteen zombie titles it's pulling all its ideas from?

On the bright side, I don't believe the people who put together that trailer will ever have to look hard for work.

As long as the storyline is still at least semi serious, and the game is actually scary, I dont mind.

I don't really care whether the end product is as emotionally provocative as the trailer but the trailer demonstrated a deep understanding of how zombie horror works, if the game doesn't match up to that level, i may then be dissapointed.

Said this at the time. Got shot down for it. "How can you know?"

Simple. As Dr. House would say, "People lie."

I'm going to have to go against popular opinion here and say I find the comparison promising. I really enjoy Borderlands, and I still play it on a regular basis. Hell, my first playthrough was entirely solo and I still had fun. I realized early on that the story wasn't exactly stellar, so I just had fun exploring environments, shooting stuff and leveling up. Borderlands is more about the journey than the destination.

Another possible factor may be the fact that I don't like the horror genre, regardless of the entertainment medium. I prefer it when zombies are portrayed as inviting, squishy targets to shoot/stab/bludgeon/etc.

I don't think anybody ever meant gameplay when they were comparing Dead Island to Heavy Rain, nobody wants that. They were thinking the whole story angle, things like tone, atmosphere and emotional weight. That jazz.

Borderlands though? So it's just like every other sheeple powered zombie game out there, except with a focus on melee? Pass.

Fuck you Deep Silver/Techland.

You release a trailer that tugs the strings of people's hearts everywhere. It looked like it would take the zombie concept further into the story of a survivor, how people really would react in an emergency situation. It doesn't have to be Heavy Rain, why the hell would it? It draws some parallels, sure, but then again you're the ones who made it.

You are all disgusting. You used the death of a little girl to promote your game through both emotional appeal and shocking appeal. You paint your game as a somber tale, that it would go into the situations of a zombie emergency that, if done right, could be very interesting. You don't just make a trailer like that and immediately go "Oh! Yeah, dude, we're totally going to make it, like, Borderlands and shit, dude!".

Screw you, Deep Silver/Techland, for screwing with us and manipulating the public.

Geoff Keighley was right. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv-SQc6LA2E&feature=player_embedded#at=174]

[sup]I know we haven't seen gameplay of it, but if the game was nothing like the trailer then they shouldn't have made it so.[/sup]

Hoooo there. They haven't said exactly which Borderlands elements they're going to use. If you ask me, they want to say with this is that they don't want a completely linear, almost interactive-cutscene like game ala Heavy Rain but more like an open world, maybe 'quest' driven game ala Borderlands.

All that doesn't mean it suddenly doesn't have a serious, emotional setting and feel to it like the trailer strongly suggested it will have (and what hope it will have). It's not like using Borderlands elements suddenly makes it a near-slapstick loot-whoring game. It better not...

However, it does sound rather odd, I'll give you that.

Well as long as I don't run into a "ClapTrap" while running for my life I'll be happy with it.

Keeping an eye on this game and hope there is a gameplay trailer sometime.

Am I the only one who was not really impressed by this Dead Island trailer? It looks like Dead Rising at a resort. I never got the impression it was anything like Heavy Rain, nor have I seen people draw those conclusions...

Guess I am just missing something...

I really enjoyed the trailer, but I didn't think that it was going to be an emotional game.

I mean, come on - zombies!

despite being a huge fan of zombies, i was completely disinterested in this game until my brother told me a few weeks ago that it was actually going to be a multiplayer, melee-focused RPG. that's when i went out and pre-ordered. hearing it compared to Borderlands further reinforces my excitement.

More like Borderland than Heavy Rain? If true, I'm in.

Heavy Rain was okay, but I got a lot more out of Borderlands as far as playtime goes.

Just shows that people jump to conclusions without doing some research first. After I saw the trailer, I immediately went to the wiki and looked at some of the interviews with developers. It didnt look or sound like a heavy rain kind of a game AT All.

Wanna bet a right arm on it? ;)
Of course not! With what arm would I hold the pitchfork to rally the masses with when you end up being right? Because there will be a shitstorm if you end up being right. But what can I say, I'm an optimist nowadays. I'll keep the mob-gear ready though.

That is extremely disappointing. It looked like that would have been awesome. Hopefully it will still be a great game when it comes out.
