I don't know what you guys are talking about, Borderlands is one of my top 5 games. It's a good game.

I honestly didn't think "Heavy Rain" when I saw it. I got where they were coming from, you play a survivor (not that family, they're just part of the story, you play someone else) on an island in the middle of a zombie outbreak. To be honest, the first thing that came to mind was something like "Condemned" except with less sleuthing and more smashy-smashy with whatever you happen to pick up. So, more-or-less, I think it's probably closer to "Dead Rising" if it were in first person.

But yeah, at no point did "Heavy Rain" enter my mind, why? Because there were fucking zombies in it!

Are those people insane or just inept? How could you so blatantly miss the point just because the music was softer than usual and the camera was playing backwards? Jeez, I'd hate to think what those people thought of the "Bioshock Infinite" trailer, they probably thought it was going to be similar to "Myst".

This is great. I had all along suspected they just wanted to do some gimmicky bullshit with their trailer to get people's attention, and now they come right out and say that's the case.
Also, Borderlands? That's a great game, don't get me wrong, but 'survival horror meets Borderlands does not sound like a fun game to me. I don't really want to bash zombies with a +5 damage +10% swing speed -5 durability bit of pipe, or whatever.

I realise this may be off topic alittle, But can you imagine a zombie game that played like Heavy Rain, a QTE themed game where if you fuck up someone gets bitten or you do etc, i think if done right it could be alot of fun, or atleast something new..ish

So...it's going to have really fun gameplay, but a terrible terrible story, with a god-awful final boss? That's a bit unfortunate that they would shoot for such a target.

This doesn't strike me as a fail at all.

I believe the number of people who buy the game because they think that it will be like Heavy Rain will probably exceed the number of people who won't buy it because they think it looks like Heavy Rain.

Think about it: Your average zombie game fan just likes killing zombies in any form whatsoever. I don't think they have much of a preference how their zombie related mayhem pans out.

Whereas Heavy Rain fans strike me as being less inclined to buy a Zombie game just because it is a zombie game.

Finally, when did people start assuming that TV spots reflected the games tone and feel accurately? Gears of War did this exact same shit, to great effect, back in 2006, with what I consider to be the coolest video game commercial ever:

thanks for the misleading advertising. I was under the impression that this was actually gonna be an interesting game.

but it makes me wonder why no one has done a look at the human side of the zombie apocalypse, that trailer was onto something there. Like a interactive 28 Days Later.

am i the only one who thinks that that would be amazing?

I'm lookin' forward to the game, and that's all I care about.

I can see why people think about "Heavy Rain" When theyh see this trailer. A kid being torn away from their parents and being killed.
But in this case it's a little girl being thrown Through a Window in "Back-Wards-Slow-O-Mo."

Oh, and THIS looks like Heavy Rain, or Borderlands?
I was thinkin' more of a "L4D2 + Knights of the Round SNES" Mix. The RPG Elements of Knights of the round and with L4D2's Emphysis on Mellee Combat... And First person.

I've also heard that since the game will be mainly built out of Mellee combat, almost all of the Weapons are going to have Statistics that must either be met to Updrage/Use.
Is that at all like Heavy Rain, Or Borderlands?
And I'm pretty sure this game is a Sandbox, these games are heavily Story-based and Extremely linear.

I don't really think that Comparison makes any sense.

It's probally Like Heavy Rain since it's emotional and Moving.
Something that Borderlands didn't attempt because it wanted to be a Sterotypical FPS-RPG. Like I thought it was going to be.

But, seriously? The game-play will be nothin' like Heavy Rain, it may have the same Quality in the Cutscenes, or the Characters, but the Gameplay is in FP, has Combat, And RPG Elements and a Skill tree.

I...Can't see much Similarities other than the emotion, and may I remind you that Borderlands has about as much emotion as a Polysterien Brick?

Alright.

NO ONE thought that this game was going to be Heavy Rain-like in gameplay. People thought it would be Heavy Rain-like in its attempts to -move- you. The trailer is moving. Artistic. Well done...

...So one of two things is true here.

Either this guy is saying the game is not as emotional as the trailer, and will instead be about the same tone as Borderlands (in which case I will play though the Island of Dr. Ned as I already HAVE Zombies in my Borderlands)...

...or he didn't understand what people were saying when they were talking about the emotional depth the trailer promises which means that he doesn't have the t5ehnical skill to pull off emotional depth, so I'll pop in Island of Dr. Ned, because I already HAVE zombies in my Borderlands.

Now if he was going for something Sean of the Dead-like, and was refering to a humorous fun romp, then perhaps he should have a talk with his marketting department about what 'funny' is and how to properly show that in a commercial. And I'll still just go play Island of Dr. Ned.

In any event, someone's failing big time here.

Aaaand you lost me. I was looking foward to some character and heart in a zombie game, not a bunch of stat menus and hours of grinding.

I'm thinking that when he says "plays more like Borderlands" he's probably referring to the weapon system in the game.

While I'm tempted to just stare at the screen and say "What." about a thousand times to the connection of Dead Island to Borderlands, I'm overjoyed by the fact that it's not like Heavy Rain.

Well, yeah. When you release a crappy "game trailer", people will get the wrong idea. Next time, try adding gameplay to the trailer or at least a cinematic that relates to what the game is intended to be.

They should've made it like Heavy Rain. It would've been an experience like no other.

There's no way that the gameplay can replicate the amazing trailer as an FPS, especially one based around Borderlands. No matter what they do it'll just be an FPS game.

It's a shame as seeing the trailer I did expect HR and so with it an insanely powerful and emotional gaming experience. Hopefully someone will make a zombie HR styled game and then the Dead Island guys will kick themselves.

I'm kinda tired of silly zombie games. I'm looking for a more serious zombie game these days. Actually, years ago when Dead Island was first announced, it had a more serious tone to it. Maybe the success of other zombie titles prompted the change.
