Doc pressed himself flat against the wall of the alley as he rounded the corner, panting and gasping for breath. It'd been barely half a day since he'd escaped the asylum and he was already wanted. Footsteps were echoing off the walls of the alley. He'd run straight into the headlights of a police cruiser and they'd given chase. He'd managed to get out of their line of sight and was trying to hide. What had intrigued him more however were his new powers... Back in the asylum he'd felt an incredibly intense stabbing pain in his mind which had caused him to scream uncontrollably. And when the doctor had come in Doc tried using his powers to take over his mind. But instead of just taking him over, he somehow became him. He had possessed the doctors shadow and had taken control of him.
Since escaping he'd tried out his powers. As far as he knew he could use shadows and darkness to move over large distances almost instantly and take over other people by possessing their shadows. But what baffled him more was why he had these new powers... The only explanation he could draw from it was that after the incident his body was subjected to so much physical and mental trauma that his mind shut down. And when his mind slowly started to awaken again over the years, it bestowed him with completely new powers.
His train of thought however was interrupted by a beam of light which was suddenly shone in his face.
"I found him! Freeze!" Shouted a man.
He could vaguely make out the outline of a man holding a 9millimeter semi-automatic pistol. Darting his head around he saw several more outlines of people appear holding guns.
"Get down on the ground!" Shouted another.
Suddenly, a sharp intense pain flared in his chest, causing Doc to grip his chest and drop onto one knee with a shout. It felt like his whole body was going to tear apart. He heard gasps and as quickly as it had started, the pain stopped. Looking confused Doc stared down at his hands and was overcome with shock. They were pitch black... As was the rest of his body. Slowly standing up he looked around. The light being shone from the torches of the police officers were pointed in his direction. But he wasn't casting a shadow. Then the realisation came to him. He'd merged with his own shadow. Looking around at the officers, he saw they were terrified, and shaking. He grinned and stepped towards one of them.
Time to see what I can do Doc thought.
"Freezr! Freeze right there!" Screamed the police officers.
Doc smiled and melded with the shadows around the alley, causing him to disappear to the eyes of the police officers. However, he just used them to move behind two of them.
"Where did he go!?" Shouted one police officer directly in front of him.
"Right behind you" Doc said.
Just as the two officers turned around, Doc grabbed them both by the head and crushed their heads like ripe melons. The two officers fell to the ground, crushed and mangled gore in place of their heads. The other officers immediately opened fire and Doc braced himself. However, he felt no pain. The bullets were passing right through him. Smiling once more, Doc ran forward with remarkable speed, holding his arms out to either side and clotheslining two officers, snapping their necks like dry reeds. All that was left was one officer who was already running. Doc gave chase.
"Dispatch I need immediate back-up! Suspect is highly dangerous! Multiple homicides!" Doc heard the officer shout into his radio.
The officer was lean and fast... Faster than Doc. He'd outrun him easily. Melding into the shadows of the dark alleyway once more Doc moved rapidly to right in front of the police officer who looked terrified as he rose up out of the shadowy pavement. Doc swung for him with his right fist and struck the officer in the sternum with a sickening cracking sound and sent the officer hurtling through the air and slamming into a brick wall with tremendous force. He had died the moment Doc's punch had made contact with his sternum.
Doc stopped as he heard sirens wailing even louder in the background. They were getting closer. Once more melding into the shadows, he snaked away from the scene.
