Sparrow, who had found his "medication", as he called it, in Sarah's pocket, was currently quite out of it. He looked at Samuel, then to Sarah.
"The time when we, err. You know the thing? When we were in the park? With that, erm. What do you call it? The thing-a-ma-jig? The, err, wootsit."
Samuel got up, and whispered something in Sparrow ear.
"Energy spike! That's the one. Basically, we observed it happen with a few lessers when we took down a small outpost they had in Ohio. By what we studied, it happens because of one of three reasons. One, a heart attack. Two, immense physical trauma. Or three, emotional pain. Basically, the body throws out a massive ammount of your energy in one go. It's a bit like a defense mechanism."
Sparrow popped another vicodin in his mouth.
"In the most common cases, you gain a large ammount of strength, or some form of rise in your ability. Usually the only side effect is that you forget what happened. Sometimes there are different side effects. For instance, one lesser we saw that was effectively beaten to death, simply lost all of his senses. No rise in power, no memory loss, no nothing. He just grew blind, deaf, anosmic and those other two senses. Whatever they are."
Samuel and Sarah forced Sparrow to sit down, to stop him frantically strolling around the room.
"So, basically, you threw a hissy fit and then forgot you threw a hissy fit."
