Heh, I'm still on Xbox 360 #1. Never has RROD, probably won't.
Same here. I've never experienced a broken Xbox 360 in my life. Nor a broken PS2.
I really don't understand where all the weeping is coming from, on my perspective.

OT; Oh Jesus me, the text... OHHH that hard-broken wall of text! It's unreadable!
But I did read the first and second paragraph. I feel my eyes are strained.

What ever point does these news have? Cool that they, uhhh... Increased their numbers? Yay, sony I suppose...

This is also the same reason why the PS2 became the highest selling console ever. I've never known anyone who hadn't needed to replace theirs at least once.
Never needed to replace mine. Not once.

As for PS3 - I lol'd. The Xbox is finally nearing the end of its life and only just now the PS3 takes over?
Neither can exactly be proud of their hardware quality either.
You do realise that Microsoft wants the 360 to keep going for another 5 years, that was supposedly one of the ideas behind Kinect :/

It's all right here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101511-Microsoft-Looks-to-Kinect-to-Extend-360-Lifespan
Ideals and executions are two very different things.

For example, you could try and kick a ball into a bucket, but then miss and smash a priceless ming vase that someone left there.

Microsoft might intend to extend the 360's life with Kinect, but thats not a guarantee that a Kinect is going to make it to every active 360 console.

This page [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems] contains most of what the crying is about.

By your standard, Sony can never win. Sony is only ahead now because the 360 is nearing the end of its lifespan, and it's nearing the end of its lifespan only because Sony is ahead.

A fair point to make, however my aim there was more to point out that a flat out statement that the 360 is near the end of it's life is more speculation than fact. We all know that was a flame bait comment mind, I just thought that needed pointing out :p

That doesn't count if you've only had it for a month and only played it once; give it time ;)

In all seriousness though, I work at an electronics store and about 50 of my coworkers have a 360, and this topic comes up a lot in conversation. Every single one of them has had to replace their "fail-box" (as we call it around the office) at least once.

Meanwhile, of the 30 or so of us who have a PS3 (yes there is of course overlap there), only one of us has had to replace their PS3.

I myself still have my original 60g model that I bought USED from a former co-worker a couple months after launch (he needed the money) and it has never once given me any grief.

EDIT: sorry, forgot to quote the guy I was replying to, it was the guy who said that this was his first Xbox and that he's never had a RRoD.

well MS said that it sold 50 million 360, but how many of them got the rrod?
Fair point, They did add a 3 year warranty onto them though...
so... 2-3 xboxes per user then? easy way to get to 50 million
They said sold 50 million. Not released 50 million to the public. They wouldn't be counting those that are replacements under warranty in that case, which means the '2-3 per user' you're talking about would only be in a minority of cases. I'll admit I'm on my third now. But that's because my first RRDed after 2.5 years, a bloody good run on the whole. My second one was a free replacement under warranty, and lasted another year and never RRDed, it was simply stolen when my house got broken into. I've had my third one from the insurance for about a year and a half now, and it's still going perfectly fine. In fact, I know more PS3 users who've had major issues with their consoles than Xbox users who've had the RRoD...

My fat PS3 has done nothing but work as directed scince buying, but there was the original fat ones then the cut down fat ones.

Still according to its Wikipedia page the PS3 has had, at worst, a 10% failure rate (In 2009). Not including the leap-year bug.

Id say that buying an unboxed fat PS3 is safe, a used one however, might be different.

Not surprised by this news The PS3's relability is winning out in the long race. Before I got mine I had 360's die on me on the 3rd I was told that the failure of the specific part wasnt covered and I would have to pay to have it fixed.

The only beef I have with the PS3 is its menu ui is crappy.

Not the same guy, but I've had mine for 2 years and it's never even come close to RRoDing.

On the other hand, I have a friend whose 360 does a semi-RRoD very frequently, meaning it basically crashes.

I guess it's just of unreliable quality.

Said 'weeping' had me informed long before that link. But it has never occured to me, so I have no idea of experience what they are talking about.

It's like explaining a religious experience to an Atheist.

My PS2 works just fine. It wasn't the slime version, it was the old one, and it was bought used. I still play SW:Battlefront 2 with my friends.

The console must be like 8 years old now...

So Sony has only JUST managed to get past the 360 in terms of user-base?

Yippeee?

I have had 2 360's, my first got the RROD on it's 3rd year, got it back a week later. ( i could tell it was the same, same markings on it etc) A few month after the laser that reads the disks was braking, so i could hardly play anything (although when it did work, it worked fine) so for Christmas that year i got an Elite, and I've had that for about a year now.

Still, it's not a big achievement Sony has just managed to get, this Gen of consoles will be over in a about 2 years.

I'm kind of curious as to how this was determined. I mean, I own an xbox 360, technically have a Live account thanks to owning a Zune, and but I haven't played the thing in almost a year at this point.
