This is also the same reason why the PS2 became the highest selling console ever. I've never known anyone who hadn't needed to replace theirs at least once.

I didn't have to... ever.
I heard all sorts of horror stories about the ps2 so I waited until they fixed it.

I can see replacing it if you have a good library but I would've given up after the third one and sold the library. That's just absurd.

This is why I'm staying out of next gen's consoles. I'm tired of trying to figure out which one will break constantly, which one will get terrible support, and which one will only have one good game on it.

Well, this is the year for the PS3, look at all the titles coming out.

As for my 360, it's going to be collecting dust if Gears 3 is all they have...=/

well MS said that it sold 50 million 360, but how many of them got the rrod?

Fair point, They did add a 3 year warranty onto them though...

so... 2-3 xboxes per user then? easy way to get to 50 million

I never had to replace mine although I only played it about once a month.

ironically, it is US devil-company GameStop dictating the European sales figures. Dunno where they get their numbers from, but I know my 360 to PS3 software sales ratio is roughly 4:3 Xbox to PS3 on a solid chart title, and those games with heavier emphasis on online play tend to go nearer 5:3.

Yes, this doesn't necessarily mean there are fewer PS3 'users' than 360, but it does imply more than a few picked it up but don't actually play many (if any) games with it.

With Blu-Ray players dropping in price now, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of 'non-gamer' owners stagnates, or drops.

Never had a problem with my 360, still going strong. PS2 on the other hand, had to replace that a few times. I still don't really care about the whole "xbox is better, ps3 is better" rubbish. I just hope microsoft don't do the stupid thing and release something before it's ready in a mad panic because the other companies are doing well.

I didn't have to replace my PS2, I also haven't had to replace my xbox 360 yet.

Well, I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3.

Xbox: Had the Red Ring of Death twice. Called support, despite the fact I have no warranty. Talked with them for 15 mins, I sent in my xbox and got it fixed for free.

PS3: Had multiple issues with things such as the screen going black, the console not ejecting discs, randomly shutting off. Had to send in the console 3 times. Each time I had to argue with Sony for 2 hours about why I shouldn't pay for something that my warranty (which I got for the PS3) covers.

I understand that this isn't the norm, but in my experience the 360 has worked much MUCH better than the PS3.
