I've been doing shotokan karate for about a year (7th kyu)
I teach it part time ^_^

Whens your next grading?
Autumn, I think. Just tested for orange in May. Gotta find out what's on the next test (besides Heian Sandan, which I think I'll do all right).
Depending ont he centre thats teaching you, it's a different order, but most likely Heian Godan. Good luck with that ^^
I didn't think I'd do Heian Godan for a while. Not until I've tested Sandan and Yondan, at least.

Actually, I didn't even know there was a fifth one. The place I train doesn't have anyone in between 6th and either 2nd or 1st kyu (in our color ranking, half the class is blue and lower, the other half is one brown and several black), so aside from the advanced stuff, I've only seen up to Yondan.
Well, technically it's Yondan, then Godan. But I've seen alot of intructors teach it in reverse order. You'll do both for sure.

I dunno, I never used to be able to fight well but I haven't been in a fight for about 5 years, when I was like 14, so i've changed a lot since then. Anyways, I avoid fighting whenever possible and it is the last resort for me.

I did karate for two years, learned and self-taught how to use a sword, and... know how to fight.
STREET FIGHTERS DO NOT COUNT. they are 110% self-taught idiots how are in court every other day.

10 years in kung-fu, kenpo, and karate, all at the same time. Been to the Shaolin Temple as well to train with the monks for several weeks. I will continue for as long as I am able.
Seriously?
Yes. I also teach childrens' classes at the local elementary schools. Any questions about what school, etc.?

Aaa but you don't need a lot of strenght persee. For example, someone lunges towards you and wants to grab you. All you technically need to do, is step aside and trip him over, possibly giving him a prod in the back so he goes flat on his face. With grace, speed and agility you can come a long way against your regular street asshole.
well of course, doesn't judo focus on that a lot?
but i lack the training to know where to push and where to pull to send people flying. though that would be rather fun. XD

Judo is a lot of grappling and working eachother against the ground. Not my kinda thing, it's too...huggy, too wresteling-ish, too much time spend on the ground. I prefer something like jeet kune do or aikido.
Training is, obviously, the part you can work on, even if you're a small girl.

I'm a karate instructor, so yes I can fight. I love fighting! Not like "YO BEEZY, I'MMA BUSSA CAP IF YOU COME 'ROUND HURR AGIN'." I mean either just sparring with a friend or I guess real ones if I had to. Those don't last too long though! My entire family has been teaching as well. My grandpa just published a book about his life as an instructor, and he's even BFF with Chuck Friggin' Norris. We also learn how to knife fight in my classes that I attend, like defensive and offensive, and all sorts of weapons techniques. I'm glad I started going! I was going to devote my life to Theater Arts, but then I realized that it was the wrong one.

Getting to kick little kids is fun too.

The most martial arts I've been doing is boxing (Muay Tai) in PT, which really isn't much of anything at all. Punches and kicks, that's all, but according to my boyfriend I have a rather mean uppercut that hurts him when he has to train with me :) I could probably fight, but I've always just avoided it...except that time I was drunk and thought my older brother was in a fight. His missus had to pull me out of the scene.

it is a bit huggish, isn't it?

and i'm not that small, i'm like 5'7".
but yeah, it just takes the dedication to work at it and get good. :]

I'm not much of a fighter. I usually get in fights with people I know, so I rarely hit back. I can take punches like a champ. I was in three serious fights when I was in grade school; the other kids cried and got in lesser trouble, so I guess that always stuck with me. Recently at a house party I had to keep a gorilla-of-a-man off my friend, not cool, I temporarily held him at bay til someone gobsmacked me. By this time another friend of mine brought out a pellet gun and went medieval on the oppressors. The hard plastic on the butt of the gun was deformed and the iron sights were bent (ouch); we had a blood trail leading out of our door.

It's funny, on the following days, we found out that the guys thought we started the fight because one of them ate our Doritos. They were college football players, so at our next party people were like: "That was here!?"

Never been to a class, but yes I can fight. Not incredible well (I'm no Chuck Norris) but yes, I can fight.
And (not to troll or anything, but stating a fact) Chuck Norris was no Bruce Lee.
On topic however, I fight by tackling my opponent and slamming their head into the nearest pointy object. It hasn't failed me yet!

My only combat technique involves kneeing someone in the balls and running like buggery.
The best I tip in this thread.
I used to do a bit of martial arts myself. Now I just practice kicking and shadow boxing to keep myself warm.. not having heating in your room sucks.

I have never been in a fight and I actually don't want to be for various reasons.

I have taken Tae-Kwon-Doe, Kick-Boxing and lastly my own style named "Fight For Survival"

yeah, I now how to fight, somewhat.

I've been in a few fights. Nothing major, but more like scuffles while out on town. The first one was a real eye-opener, made me take self-defense a lot more seriously. Never used any safety gear outside of a helmet and teeth-protector after that.

My personal style is a bit of a mix of boxing, Kraw-Maga and I've even practiced a few years a style called Han-Moo-Do. Doubt enyone knows what that last one is, so a brief synopsis: The aim is to subdue the aggressor with fast techniques and counter-striker leading to a joint-lock or a full submission hold or to put the attacker(s) to the ground for long enough for you to run away.

Han-Moo-Do is the source for most of my non-aggressive locks and holds, the ones I'd be most likely to use in the case 1-on-1 fight. Police doesn't like it all too much if you go breaking people bones or disconnect their shoulder-joints. Self-defence is one thing but to go straight for wounds that require a prolonged visit to a doctor to set straight isn't all that recommended.

But rule #1 all my instructors have drilled to my head about self-defense always applies: Run away if you can, don't fight unless necessary.

I know certain weapon training (katana swords, nunchaku, bo staff, kali sticks), Tae Kwon Do, escape techniques (knife & gun shit) and wrestling. Though I doubt I will have to resort to it in the future as im 15 and never gotten in a fight (verbal fights i have encountered duh).

How do I fight? Dirty!

I have years of martial arts traning and all that, enough to know that 95-99% of martial arts traning is usless in a drunken street fight.

I dont really fight now; bit older, bit wiser. When I did though the fight usually wnet like this:

*in each others faces*
Me "look mate, you wanna make something of this?!?! Huh?!!"
Guy "You dont wanna me with me boy! I'm a black belt in (inset random martial art)!!!!"
Me "Fair enough mate, I'll leave it. Sorry."

At which point I drop my left foot back and drop a little wieght on to it, looking like im turning away. However I keep dropping the weight on to my left leg and keep twisting my left hip back with out moving my feet. Then like a spring I twist back and rise with all that force going to my bent arm. With my fist pointing towards my chest I strike up and foward with my elbow hitting the guy in the jaw or nose. Fight is then over, every time.
