Huh, so it's not confirmed? One of my mates told me it was, but didn't link me to anything, hence my "apparently" when mentioning it.ZiggyE said:Really?ReservoirAngel said:and now there's a 3rd game apparently confirmed.
I actually enjoyed Left 4 Dead until it became repetitive, but even now it's still a good way to bust stress. I did buy the second game and preferred it, they were obviously trying to change things up, but it still eventually became tiresome and repetitive.
If they do it so that it doesn't become tiresome and repetitive, I'll be impressed, but I don't see it happening.
EDIT: Link I post removed. It's too late at night for me to understand satire straight away. Remains unconfirmed.
I did a quick google and came across nothing confirming it. I suppose it'd be announced on Steam or the L4D website first.ReservoirAngel said:Huh, so it's not confirmed? Odds are they will do a 3rd one, and odds are it'll be just like the first 2 were. I'm not knocking them, they're good games. I still regularly return to L4D because there's something satisfying about spraying hot lead into a ravenous swarm of oncoming bloodthirsty mutated horrors.
But even though there's only 2, you're absolutely right. The games have been bogged down by their own repetitiveness. I gotta give em credit for the AI Director system, but it doesn't do much really. For me it just seems to hide behind corners, cheekily spawning witches in the middle of corridors I need to get down. Gun down one zombie swarm, you've gunned down them all.
Though you have a fair point and you are right, you have to consider the fact that if the industry's pumping out identical game after identical game, or overusing an IP until it has lost all meaning, only harms the future of the gaming industry. Lack of original thinking means that these games will keep being produced, and if they sell, it means the gaming industry will think that hiring people to come up with original ideas is unnecessary.apsham said:I don't think I have ever wanted a series to end, and in reality - I have absolutely no idea why anyone would call for something like that. Seriously. If you don't enjoy the games, don't play them but there are still thousands of people out there that do. It's not hurting you one bit.
Hmmm, do you feel offended by good games?Krylock said:Please get rid of the Battlefield series. Also, get rid of Valve as a company...
Seriously? I love L4D and L4D2, but that seems a little to far.ReservoirAngel said:Left 4 Dead
first game was good. intense and occasionally pant-wetting in atmosphere. 2nd game could have been released as an expansion pack in reality, and now there's a 3rd game apparently confirmed.
I guess some series' can be redeemed, but when developers use them because they want to make money quickly with little effort, it's only damaging to the industry.apsham said:That's a fair & good point - but when I look at the series being listed by people here in this topic, I can see that they are just choosing series that they don't like for some arbitrary reason or for no real reason at all. Even series that are horribly overused can find redemption at one point or another. The new Lara Croft game, for instance.ZiggyE said:Though you have a fair point and you are right, you have to consider the fact that if the industry's pumping out identical game after identical game, or overusing an IP until it has lost all meaning, only harms the future of the gaming industry. I am a massive Kingdom Hearts fan but even I agree the series has it's faults. However, EVERY single Kingdom Hearts game has added new plot elements and has contributed and moved the plot further. Just because a title isn't a numbered title, doesn't mean it isn't important to the series. When KH3 is released, and you go to play it without playing these games in between, you'll probably have no idea what is going on.shemoanscazrex3 said:Kingdom Hearts.... stop making all these damn side steps and move forward. Whoa whoa whoa, haven't you seen Black and White? They've put a ton of upgrades into those games.New Troll said:Pokemon. This series has been going on since my little brother was a wee little thing and now he's a police officer and bouncer at a strip club. And comparing the games of today with the originals, there's been no relevant upgrades to the series. Lets add a few new pets and call it Pokemon: Candy Apple and a few others and call it Pokemon: Digested Poo. Yup, there's another two years of getting paid without actually contributing to the gaming world. And with that, my rant is done. Thank you.
I'm not saying they didn't add to the story but they were on handhelds which I don't really see the need to spend money on, plus I don't really care all that much. As far as not knowing what's going on I doubt that. I played KH2 before one and I figured out how they came to the sequelZiggyE said:I am a massive Kingdom Hearts fan but even I agree the series has it's faults.
