I've always enjoyed either modern (also modern fantasy) or fantasy settings in games, not that big on sci-fi or steampunk, but i like it when it is done right, but that's true for almost anything

so i dont care either way.

I like Desertpunk (is that an actual genre?) better, but I love me some Steampunk.
This is entirely unrelated but you should check out the Desertpunk anime series, its funny and just a little degrading to watch at the same time.

Im sorry but i just had to mention it when i read the word Desertpunk

It's interesting. I prefer cyberpunk or post cyberpunk, but it's still a good setting style.

It's a fun expression of people's creativity. As long as it's not taken too far and gets all creepy/nerdy, I think a lot of really cool skills get put on display in a "just for the fun of it" kind of way.

I like it, it adds a touch of class to what are really bland and uniform devices.

The only real down side is when it come time to repair or upgrade something if you didn't plan for doing so your kinda screwed.

All things "____punk" need to die a horrible death. Preferably one of those deaths were the decomposing body is found by paint ballers.

When done well, steampunk is amazing. When done poorly, it's really bad. I tend to like it, but I'm not dreamy eyed by it.

Gah. Depends on the context. The "layout" used in certain things; like backgrounds, setting. tolerable, I guess.

But, when people dress steampunk... They look like social-retards... I see someone at a party dressed like that, first thing that comes to mind is that they worship anime and wouldn't know his/her way around a conversation outside of anime... Yawn.

Vote: Hate it.

I love it!
I just think lots of people completely overdo it. Nice and simple steampunk looks amazing!

It can be really cool if it's done well, but I wouldn't say that I "love" it, plus I usually prefer cyberpunk :p

I don't understand it's popularity and it frustrates me that it is so popular. I'm not sure why such an insignificant thing makes me angry... probably some combination of it's name and my hatred of any popular social phenomenon. Either way I voted as not caring either way on the poll; I don't hate it that much... just a bit.

I voted that I love it.

But out of all of it's sub-genres, I prefer biopunk.

Then if asked again if I had to choose between steam and cyber as a setting I would have to pick the latter every time. What can I say? I like bright, glowy advertisements.
