There's reason why I never cared much for the R/P board. Now all of the bullshit going to be in off-topic.

Of course. Just days after I make my first thread there it's closed and my thread is lost.

I don't. Explain to me why funneling all the R&P discussion into Off Topic is a good idea?

I wonder how long it will take the powers that be to realize that they have effectively closed Off-Topic rather than R&P. Didn't this already happen once? If I remember correctly R&P was temporarily closed due to a bot infestation or something and political threads quickly drowned out everything else in Off Topic to the dismay of many users. The most effective way to protest this change it to simply continue to talk about religion and politics despite such discussions apparently being anathema to the new management. Jussie Smollett is a pretty hot topic of discussion in my neck of the woods right now so that would probably make a good thread.

If people feel strongly enough about this, just keep making political and religious threads, but make them in Off-Topic.

Don't do it maliciously though, just keep making threads and discussions as you normally would. If there's very clear demand for an "R&P" forum, then the staff should pretty quickly overturn their decision.

Apparently we're supposed to put [POLITICS] in the title of those threads now.

This only works for titles short enough to do so.

I am sure people who enjoy off topic feel about as thrilled as the people who enjoy R&P for this move to consolidate. Freeing "the basement" though may have unintended consequences, there was a reason it was separated to begin with. I can understand their reasons, although I wouldn't make that move, hopefully it will go better than it did last time.

Placing "Political" in "Off Topic"section allows for those topics to be pushed downwards in the forum. Meaning from the start they will be dropped lower on the list as more random things are added. This of course allows the site to remain somewhat at glance politically free. A possibility anyone here can assume.

The ironic thing is having the "category R/P" allowed users to just jump or avoid anything that could be a counter point of their views. Instead moving it to the "Off Topic" section. Just happens to place R/P squarely in the center of people who might not like politics. Which in turn would allow for the possible total removal of such content in the future. Not saying it is their intention, but it is a possibility none the less. One which anyone here has the right to suspect as how quiet and out of the loop we are all left here.

This was a Bad Decision.

A decision likely made without historical context.

A decision that will create more work for mods.

A decision that has upset both those who used the function and those who did not.

It's like Christian Rock. It doesn't make Christianity any better, but it sure makes Rock worse.

I'm not surprised. I may not have liked R&P for how much of a shit pile it often was, but I didn't want it to be shunted back into general discussion.

That and the new code of conduct. Seriously. Zero tolerance for Hate Speech with zero appeal. Who decides what's hate speech?

Easier to moderate when it's all in one place, I guess. Plus, more activity in OT.

They're called Mods. That's who decides

Also, I don't think the CoC was that different.

Plus there hasn't been that many people given strikes lately in OT or R&P

Oh, I think all hate speech appeals to someone. Not nice people, obviously, but still technically people.

I'm not really concerned. The forums are going to have to migrate to whatever V.2 is going to be sometime in the future anyway. Complaining about anything happening now without even seeing how things are going to look going forward is pretty pointless. Complain when the migration has to go forward without migrating threads from this forum, or whatever problems might crop up. Then we'll have a problem, now we're just lucky they didn't shut the forums down entirely while they rolled out V.2. There being or not being a place for R&P topics... pretty minor concern by comparison. For the time being I'll trust they are doing what they can and what they think is best, and that is good enough for me.

I, for one, welcome these refugees - whom I've never interacted with in any way whatsoever before - with monstrously hairy, open arms and a warm bottle of 85% loving hugs. Also we should give them some of our money and pin numbers as a gesture of goodwill.
The bar is over there, where all manner of philosophications can be discussed with only a mild threat of casual judgemental side-eyeing from the locals. There is no happy hour though, because the world is shit and depressing. Enjoy your stay, beautiful strangers!
