Damn straight! A few of my friends of facebook say 'too' instead of 'to'. Now that is just annoying!

I'm not a grammar Nazi at all, but when pplz typ liek dis it makes them look stupid, and I can't perceive any sense of emotion or intellect from their words.

The only times it would be acceptable- and I mean ONLY times- is during in-game chat, when a person can only spend a limited amount of time typing before something comes up.

Every other time, though yeah- people seriously need to buff up their Typing 101.

wut r u chatin bout u div?

lol m8 u need 2 g0 & get a life

^It took me a lot longer to type that up than to write this paragraph. It is just a bad habit really. If you see your friends or family typing in the manner demonstrated above then please discipline them appropriately. Use force if necessary. Extreme force.

I sort of taught myself English through computer games and the internet, and in the fifth grade I was often excused from the English lessons to go do what the hell I wanted because being taught with the rest of the class wouldn't help me at all, same happened again a lot in my tenth year. Since I'm not from an English speaking country, I'm not happy to let others use that excuse either. I get pissed off at people using too instead of to, or confusing their, they, there, and other words. I also really hate when people use u and r or use cuz instead of because. All that stuff should never be picked up and used by anyone.

I hate over-used things like ''IMO''. At first it didnt really bother me, but when suddenly everyone started pasting IMO after every goddamn sentence it became more annoying everytime i saw it.

I try my best to use proper grammar but I myself have two problems with that.

One being that I am just naturally better at math and science. Although I always scored at least 85% on state proficiency tests in English, to me it was way behind my strait perfects in math, science, and history.

Two being that in my school district 3rd grade is when grammar, then vs than, etc. is really hammered into our young minds. My 3rd grade teacher called me "stupid and a waste of a spot in her class" so I didn't really learn anything. From then on all my other teacher just expected me to know all that stuff so they didn't really stop to help one student.

So I do the best I can and hope the judgmental eyes of my fellow internet dwellers forgives my shortcomings.

Maybe they should sell that in RPG's to allow users to chat. (You can't chat without it):
Item: Dictionary
Price: 5 Greens.
Stats: +3 to Typing, +1 to Speech
Description: This is a dictionary, there are words in it.
Special: Enables text chat.

It gets on my tits a lot of the time. I tend to hang around in the Writing section of another forum and I always think it's odd the way people come in going 'r8+edit my storie plz' or somesuch nonsense and don't consider typing it properly. You wouldn't go up to a stranger in the street and ask them something in gobbledygook so why do it in a forum, especially when you're asking for a critique of a piece of writing the merit of which is judged both on the content and on the quality of the actual writing.

I'm all for change in language but when you're trying to convey a message and what you've written is either careless or totally illegible to those not well-versed in the particular variety of code you're using I think you've gone too far.

My friend sent be a message on the Book of Face once written in txt tlk. She saved maybe five seconds typing it and I waste five hours trying to read it.

I have BA in English. I reserve the right to ***** about people who mistreat my language. Also, Avenue Q was right.

Dammit, I've seen Avenue Q twice in London even though I live in another country, so this is slightly embarrasing. What did Avenue Q say?

I don't like it, but I can live with it. Live and let live. So long as someone is able to convey their thoughts to me in a way I can understand, I'll be willing to listen, though poor articulation will prevent me from taking anything seriously. Personally, I try to put some effort into what I write, as I respect my own thoughts highly enough to care about how they are presented. Other people can do what they want and I will treat them accordingly, which usually means ignoring them.

This doesn't bother me at all, I would never type like that, but it seems a little pompous to complain about it, as if your putting yourself an a pedestal above them simply because they take shortcuts typing on something as insignificant as a message board.

I'm really getting tired of the poor syntax, grammar and overall language of the internet. I'm sick of the Us, the Rs and the pluralising with a damn apostrophe! To me it's just laziness. If appearance counts towards making a good first impression in reality, then surely how one writes on the internet contributes to first impressions on the Internet. Now, Gentlemen and Ladies, I AM NOT saying that perfect grammar and syntax should be expected 100% of the time, because that's just unreallistic and silly. Yes, I do use acronyms such as lol, brb and their ilk at times, but if you are contributing to a discussion, it doesn't really work. A bit of pride in your relations with others, even if it is the Internet, can't hurt, can it?

What are your opinions?

Thoughts? Comments? Queries?
Yep. What you said. Sick of it. It should be abolished.

I am sick of people thinking that an internet post in the epitome of literacy and should be treated so. I want to discuss on the Internet, quickly and efficiently. Using letters as words may be the height of lazyness, but I do not feel that I need to sit and proof read my 50 word post just to satisfy the grammar nazis.

It says something about a person if they can type well. IE, they're literate.

However, i'll occasionally make mistakes if i'm typing quickly.

It is something that I am truly annoyed by.

I have a couple of friends who do it, and it makes me twitch when I see it.

Why can people not just spell correctly anyway? Even if you are dreadful at spelling, just use a spell checker. That's what they are for.

Incidentally, I know these are cannibalised versions of real words, but i cant work out what the hell woot is a derivative of. Does anyone actually know?
