I love Idris Elba, that guy is a brilliant actor, Luthor was a birliant show. He is probably the best actor in the film. (not saying he will have the best act, he looked like a tard in the trailer, rather he has the best skillz) People have been swapping the race and sometimes the gender of characters in film adaptations for ages. I remember someone saying that the satyr in that Percy Jackson and the lightning thief film was white in the books but no conservitavie tards complained about that. But maybe thats because the character was kind of teh "jester" of the piece. Maybe its alright to make the comedic character black, but forbidden to make a powerful god black. Sounds like its scardey white man kicking up a fuss over some bull shit to me.

Heimdall was called the whitest of the gods. Why the hell should he be portrayed as black?

It just doesn't make sense
I'll repeat a previous post.

Do you not follow the comics or the info about the movie? The Marvel characters are not gods. They are beings from another realm/planet who came to Earth. They happened to end up in the Nordic regions, and because they were more advanced, they were seen as gods. They are not human, nor do they hail from Earth.Their skintone means nothing
If you include a group of immortal beings based on a groups' current of former religion it doesn't matter what you call them, they will be looked on as that groups gods. The whole thing with him losing his powers because of his "lack of faith" also smacks of them being gods since that's what gives them power: faith. You are throwing up a straw man argument on this, Marvel says they aren't gods for only one reason: to appease a largely christian country. You might have forgotten, but christians tried to do to comics in the 50's and 60's what they are doing to video games now, and used Thor being a god as part of their ammunition, claiming that the comics were promoting the worship of pagan religions and satan.

Thor black? but thor is always portrayed as white skin with red(mythology) or blond(comics) hair. he's Scandinavian in origin, for crying out loud. why not make him the way he's forever been portrayed as?
Because Hollywood has an unwritten rule that there MUST be a black man in every single movie that they make.

That's why I only watch dirt. Dirt is creative.

All I want now is a movie where Yaweh or Allah themselves are portraited as another race as the worshippers :D

Really. I don't mind the color as long as the actor does a good job portraying the Norse Gods... which they most likely won't since it is produced by USA... still, if I want to have the "correct" lore about my own country's mythology I read it. Not looking for it in a fictional movie about a Norse god coming down to earth from Midgard ... agh... my head... the mythology just... does not work that way...

My point is: This is movie is not trying to pass itself up as how the norse gods was/is has been ladidadida... it's a fictional story in a fictional universe. So the gods could be green for all I care.

I'm just annoyed with the genreal depiction of my ancestor's gods in that movie.
I could not care less about the colour of the actors, but the costumes gaaaah!

Oh, and it's not Thor who's black. It's Heimdal.

The greatest humour is found in that these groups are likely heavily into their own version of Christianity, a religion somewhat famous for it a Messiah of the more... middle-eastern... persuasion! XD

'Course, the Vikings never depicted their Gods in any such detail (not like, say, the Greeks did), the whole idea they should look like stereotypical Viking types is a relatively modern thing, since about 200 years ago, where they were giving the standard "God" treatment by various artists.

(Go on, look on Wikipedia or something, the images showing them with the standard "God" look, it'll all be dated after 1800, almost 400 years after the complete "Christianization" of the region ^^)

(Besides, we all know the AEsir, or, "Asgard", as they prefer, actually have Grey skin!)

Oh wait, never mind... These guys are just insane, and racists, and the worst type of people, and the world would be better to be rid of them.

Hate to say it, but they do have a point. There is nothing stopping me from saying Robin Hood was black, but if someone wants to make a movie about a black Robin Hood (unless it's a parody) that guy isn't gonna get my money. The Robin Hood I've always read is white, and white he shall remain for me.

So yeah, I get it.

Do you remember the big fuss about changing the character aces in last airbender? That spawned a website called racebending.com that endeavors to keep characters the same race in adaptions. recently they threw a fuss when marvel even thought about casting a white girl as an Asian in their Runaway movie (personally, when I read the comic I would have sworn she was white but whatever). Yet they haven't said a thing about this, go figure.

That said, since this is an openly white supremest group, it sort of invalidates their argument, but they're not completely wrong on this one.

I wonder if they have an opinion on Bruce and Evan almighty LOL. Man these people will never be completely phased out. But the good thing is the majority of people are not racist.

So... they boycott the movie. Nothing wrong with that, it is certainly within their rights.
As it is within my rights to mock them mercilessly.

Anyway, with all the folks on here who said they couldn't handle a black guy playing a white superhero, it's unsurprising to find some people that offended by a black Norse God.

Sure it's not very accurate, but when's that ever stopped anyone from making a movie about something?

Wait, Idris Elba is in Thor? Sweet, I am totally interested in it now!

(Man, Elba was great in The Wire and Ultraviolet.)

As to the actual topic, I don't know. It strikes me as a storm in a teacup. It's like the Catholic League protesting dogma; why give the group oxygen by reporting on them? I think they're best ignored.
