Because they're selling their message in the form of music. Terrible music. I think I've heard 4 or 5 Rage songs, but it could be two dozen for all I know. For the longest time I thought they just had the one song.

Because they've never heard of "subtltey."
I'd agree to this. RATM is about as subtle as a bat to the head. It doesn't help that I don't actually care for their music either. You also have bands like Anti-Flag which has the same sublety problem but at least I like the music (even if I often don't agree with the assertions that they make).

I haven't bothered giving them a listen, nor do I plan to. I've gathered from a reliable source that they kind of suck as a band.

Rage Against the Machine is okay, but maybe people hate them because they suck. I mean all their songs are like:
"George Bush sucks! Geoarge Bush sucks! X5
[confusing and bland rap lyrics about W sucking]
George Bush sucks! X10
W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUCKS!"
I mean, EVERY song is like that, it's lame.

I dislike their musical style, and I dislike the things they've done on the side.
Like not playing a concert people payed to go see, instead standing naked onstage with duct tape on their mouths while protesting some sort of parent censorship group. Not that I approve censorship, but your fans payed to see you play, set aside time to go, and instead of being a band you pulled off a half-baked and indecent protest.

RATM is just obnoxious.

I've yet to see an adult actively hate them.

But then, I don't listen to them, so I guess I wouldn't see the reponses to their music.
This.

Much of the older generation had nationalism indoctrinated into them at a young age. The younger generationhas had less and less nationalism over the years as America's exploits have become less than fruitful.

There have always been Anarchists, and there always will be Anarchists. No matter what happens, people will always find something they dislike with the establishment. Watch, in two(to six) years, bands similar to this will post rebellious songs against Barack Obama.

The best thing you can do is just deal with Disestablishmentarianists and Antidisestablishmentarianists. Both factions will argue with one another until an election catches their attention. Then, who knows, they could find their positions reversed very shortly.

On a side-note: Maxi, your avatar is pure awesome. Code Geass is animated WIN.

They're anarchists. Anarchy = Stupidity.
Not necessarily. See V for Vendetta. But then, that's fiction, so whatever. Anarchists (the real ones) just don't want to live by anyone's rules except their own, which is perfectly okay. Unfortunately, their free will is usually manifested in violence.
Well as you said V for Vendetta is fiction. The idea that we could all live perfectly without a government telling us what to do is a VERY stupid one in my opinion. It'd be like the Capitol Wasteland from Fallout 3. Without laws, and a leader everyone would be left to fend for themselves. There would be crime, people trying to rule by using violence. It wouldn't be pretty. Although I must say I have a very biased opinion. I work as a police officer in California so naturally I'm against idiots.

They aren't really against the government, they just pretend to do that to sell albums to anxsty teens who want to form trouble for the "estabalishment" because they think it will make girls like them, truth is, they are all just tools. Also, Tool is a good band, unlike RATM.

I'm curious as to what song you are referring. Also didnt their last album come out in like... '99?

I don't think they're pretending... I mean they pretty actively support causes. I dont see them to be as much 'down with this government' as much as they've been like 'people are suffering injustices, help them?'

Yeah, except they broke up before he even took office. You obviously don't seem to know much about them.
