My old workmate was telling me today about this situation from the last few days.
He was talking to the new blonde girl employee when a long-time employee walked in. The following conversation, if it could be called that, took place.
Alex: Hey Rob.
Rob: Hey Alex. Hey Harlie, were you in Taupo during the weekend? Thought I saw you out there.
Harlie: Umm... no... I was in Hamilton... *stands there seriously pondering for five minutes*
Alex: *smirking*
Uh, Harlie, were you or were you not in Taupo in the weekend?
Harlie: ... umm... no, I wasn't. Hmm. *walks back out to the shop to greet a customer*
At this stage, Alex and Rob both exchanged an incredulous look of
"what the hell?".
I just had to laugh when he told me this.
Also, anyone who
still thinks that World of Warcraft is for
"30 year old virgin basement dwellers who live with their mom". Given the sheer amount of people who play it and the fact that they're all an incredibly diverse bunch ranging from parents to elderly pensioners to celebrities to even your typical frat boy gamers, nobody in their right mind could possibly be that stupid.
I actually had to deal with a teenage girl who thought this way. She outright assumed I was some sort of pathetic nerd. When I showed her how many people play it and exactly what kind of people play it
(I specifically mentioned celebrities and sports players such as quarterbacks), she changed her mind on the spot.
Seriously.
Wow.
(no pun intended)

Dude... You're awesome. Also, cheers for that Sean Bedlam link, it'll help me out next time someone tries to tell me that it matters that I believe in something more than Science
OT - Today, I had a fifteen year old tell me that I'm wasting my life because I'm studying games design instead of playing real sports outside. I would have slapped him if we hadn't been right next to the Project 15 staff room. We need to get a games design room with the rest of the adults...
Thanks, dude. He actually made a video on it as well.
I have to admit, sometimes it does seem like a hive mind. The ones I've come across online all seem to talk the exact same, parroting each other. It's really quite cringe-worthy for me to watch.
What I'd like is for new atheists to realize that the world isn't America. I've yet to meet any Bible Belt-like Christian in this country. There doesn't seem to be any here in NZ, unless you count the Destiny Church, and even then they're nowhere near as bad as the ones in the Bible Belt.
