One time some girl in my class thought that Hitler was a Jew and that he was killing them all because he wanted to be king of the Jews, and also that he killed his sister and mother. The REALLY sad part? The majority of the class though she was right.

I was talking to this kid and the topic of 2012 comes up. When he said that the world wouldn't end, I was about to compliment him on saying something smart, but before I could he told me that only the East Coast of America would be destroyed. I then changed my plans for 12-21-12 from "sit around and laugh at idiots" to "drive to the mountains where he plans to move to and at Midnight knock on his door and tell him that nothing happened".

She's partially right. Hitler WAS a Jew. Well, his grandfather was. He was made fun of as a child and started the Holocaust to prove that he wasn't Jewish. He also destroyed all records of his family. The rest of what she said is stupid though.
Sorry if this is a double post, but I'm pretty sure someone will have posted while I was typing this.

As a direct result of America's totally bullshit drugwar, several doctors were put in prison for basically distributing pain killers to patients who needed them. Let me elaborate. (No details or sources as of yet, I'll get back to you later tonight when I'm home).

A doctor was prescribing painkillers to several patients of his. somehow the FDA got thought he was a drug dealer, and thus the man was put in jail. All of above mentioned doctor's patients were transferred to someone else.

The doctor who had recieved all the new patients was subsequently put under investigation due to a large increase in prescriptions distributed by the doctor (durrrr he just got a large influx of new patients). Turns out he was slammed down on pretty hard, although he was finally acquitted, during the trial period, he lost all his patients due to his license being revoked, one of his patients died, and he now has a debt of over $200,000 dollars.

The fact that a guy with 2 brain tumors and a lung tumor wasn't able to get his medication because of all this shit fucking pisses me off to no end.

This infuriates me. If I was to be in front of anyone responsible I would rage.

Here it is, brace yourselves:

POLITICS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Other than that, I would have to say the people who want to kick athiest scientists out of the country and then complain loudly when our national math and science test scores drop.

My Russian 2 class had a debate about who Joseph Stalin was. 50% said scientist, 30% said movie star,19% ignored the debate and only 1%(except for teacher) knew he was a dictator
and that was me and a Georgian exchange student.

Anytime someone asks me if I'm related to someone else just because I have on glasses and they do too.
Religious arguements started when some idiot claims to be a member of a certain religon. Cue the fights and generalizations about a group based on the extremes (ironic when it happens on the Escapist: home of the "Just because I'm a gamer, doesn't mean I'm going to murder someone" arguement)

Mechanical Engineering class: We were told we had to draw on a cutaway section lines that were exactly parallel and evenly spaced. What for? A GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION THAT THERE IS A CUT AREA. I could shade those areas and get the point across. I know it looks better, but I seriously doubt in a job that I will have to slow productivity by evenly spacing and making sure lines are parallel to get a point across (the official explaination for this was "That's how everyone learns it." The college in question challenged us on the first day to think differently and to basically not be lemmings).

Another college related example. Aparently, education is no longer that important where I am since they're looking at that to cut cost for the state... After they already started to cut costs at every college. Yes, the future is bascially getting f*cked royally.

Anytime I don't mute Xbox Live.

I'm sure they would laugh their asses off if they saw the examples of ignorance on this thread.....

OT: Last semester in my English class some people started yelling "HAHA I jewed you!!" then
proceeded to call a bunch of classmates Jewish

I casually asked them why they hated Jewish people so much.

The answer I got was "I don't know I just hate them." "Haha! "Jew" what a stupid word!"

I contemplated taking my friend's lighter and setting fire to that kids fucking hair.

I respect you, and your views good sir, don't call me an idiot for having my own.
This.

While I have a very loose faith in religon, I will respect those with their own ideas. But I do not care about hearing 'God dosen't exist!' Because deep down, I want one. Just to say there something nice at the end of the road.

I won't force my beliefs on you...But you sure as hell better keep your ideas to yourself.

... anyway, My rage inducing moment of Ignorance comes from a guy in my class who believed that Gay people are mentally sick.

Everyday since that date, I tried to hurt him, everyway I could.

No respect for people who think like that.
what? they are. just recently, an American precision missile (their maximal possible miss is 1 inch.) was aimed at a Taliban hideout. guess who they killed? 0 Talibans and 128 innocent children. and that has happened before.
Well glad to know that I spent five years as a baby killer and a brute then. Must not remember it because of the goverment brainwashing.

Nothing has a "maximal possible miss" of one inch. Something could have an expected accuracy of several yards, but even GPS systems cannot tell you where you are down to one inch. Even extremely accurate riles tend to be within, or just under a minute of arc from a stand with precision loads for that rifle.

The way religious people have subverted the definitions of a great many words to reinforce their preconceptions about reality. Belief, theory, ignorance, closed-mindedness, etc.

Truth is, in order to begin arguing against evolution, the big bang, atheism or even other religions from a religious standpoint, you automatically admit your god(s)'s only place is in the gaps of human knowledge. Then everything after that is simply attempting to halt or turn back the progress of human intellect, so as to give your god a bigger gap to reside within. You are truly lost when you start using words such as "closed-mindedness" and/or "ignorance" to describe people who would prefer you either provide real proof or cease to exist.
I feel I should be opposed to what you said, but I honestly didn't understand it. Could you explain that a little clearer please? Close mindedness and ignorence is how strong athiests and fundamentalists describe each other, and both are damn correct.
Theist definition of closed-mindedness: Refusing to accept on blind faith something that, by very definition, cannot be proven in any real way.

Theist definition of ignorance: Not believing in god

Theist definition of belief: The natural state of the human mind. To say, doubt is an artificial byproduct of improper explanation

Scientific progress has been steadily eroding "god's role" in the creation of the universe. The goal of theistically inspired pseudo-science (creationism, intelligent design) is to "push back." To cherry pick evidence to support the existence of god. Thus, putting "god" and "science" on the same level. But god completely defies all physical law. Therefor any attempt to imply his existence through physical means only serves to further erode the veracity of his role in existence. Leaving the theist with nothing more than an unverifiable idea and weak accusations.

I agree with you in a different way, Those who believe in god cannot see it as a "god of the gaps" where you use GOD DID IT as a way to explain away that which we don't know, that being said, I don't think that science is "eroding god's role" to the contrary the more I learn about the universe and all the perfect balances, unshakeable laws, and intricacies the more I am inclined to believe. overall a being such as a god in my opinion is like music to deaf person, we can strive are hardest to understand it, know it and love it (and what nobler cause) but in the end the limitations of our earthly preconceptions may make it at its most basic level "unknowable"

OT: when I realize its 6 in the morning on a school day and I've been making beats on Fruitloops all night AGAIN.

Edit: people who call "Time" by Pink Floyd a great song, it is not a song it is sex for your ears

Wow it would seem I've become the fellow of the forum. All I did was put forward that theAmazingAtheist is a bit ignorant and should just keep to his beliefs and let others keep to theirs (And yes the exact same thing can be said about the hundreds of Biblical fundamentalists telling everyone that their way is the only way, this number only being matched by the hundreds of Atheists doing the exact same thing only forcing other viewpoints down peoples throats. Though in a nutshell I'd either have to say the most prominent bigot with an Atheist view [TheAmazingAtheist] or the most prominent bigot with a Christian view [U2ubers, take your pick]. Though in a...pea-pod, the former is a grown man who should be mature enough to not add to the already prominent problem of religious elitism on the web and the latter are either misinformed kids who've been brainwashed by their parents that can't figure out a mouse from a keyboard who have my pity or little wanker trolls who deserve a good clip across the ear)

I have my own reasons for being Catholic (Techinically I am a Catholic but that shouldn't make a scrap of difference) and my own stance on the religion. I also have good mates of various beliefs from Sikh to Atheist, they all have their reasons as do I and I accept that. Here on the escapist there are many good, different people with various stances in politics, religion and even gaming, I'm not going to push my beliefs onto them through some forum on the web so I can sit back and think how fantastic I am for ignoring somebodies opinion when really that would make me a spineless bigot.

It's self-important tossers like both of you who really bring society down, don't think calling me out simply for being a member of the Catholic faith is in any way justified.

But the worst display of stupidity I've ever seen?

2004 American Presidential election.
To quote Shaquille O'Neill:

"I'm like George Bush. You may not like me, you may not respect me, but you voted me in."
-Said upon being inducted into a hall of fame.

So truthfully, he was, more than anything, just extremely divisive. You may have thought the re-election of Bush was stupid, but he WAS voted in.

I was in high school when 9/11 happened. Shortly after finding out about it a few people beat up the Chinese exchange student at our school because they thought China was behind the attack. I asked one of the kids why they thought China did it and they told me "China has 2 billion people if they start a war with us they can kick our ass". I had to walk away after that.

Well, you're pleasant. Nothing removes my respect for people faster than them calling me an idiot for being religious. Imagine if I had the gall to tell them that they were idiots for NOT being religious.
