I think you'll all get a kick out of this:

In a high school marine biology class, the teacher was discussing continental drifting, and the idea that one day all landmasses would again become whole. A girl pipes up in the back,"But where will all the water go?"
Oh dear, it's almost as bad as when people ask "what day is it today" when they mean date and they complain at you for telling them the day!

Truth is, in order to begin arguing against evolution, the big bang, atheism or even other religions from a religious standpoint, you automatically admit your god(s)'s only place is in the gaps of human knowledge.
This is not true. Creationists also attempt to map out the history of biology according to scientific principle. It's not as if we believe that God MacGuffin'ed any discrepancy with reason out of existence.

A friend of mine honestly tried to argue that Jesus was a Christian by birth. He is the most religious person in our circle of friends, the rest of the group are either atheists or scientists.
Wait a sec, scientists can be religious (not many are but still there are at least a few)

I was at King's Mountain here in North Carolina on a field trip with my ROTC unit. The tour guide shows us an enfield musket and as he explains it he says the following.
He said that it was browned so it wouldn't be as visible.
WAIT WHAT?!
I'm not even kidding, he thought the barrel was coated with (I forget what it was coated with but I at least know the purpose unlike this idiot) so it wouldn't be as visible. This weapon was used by an army which marched in big formations and wore bright red jackets and it was the musket that was going to give them away. So I told him it was actually to help stop corrosion. He disagreed. I later got in trouble with the head of my ROTC unit for arguing with the tour guide.
For info on exactly what happened at King's Mountain that made it worth a field trip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kings_Mountain

Someone who IS really dumb however, is a girl in my drama class. We'd just finished watching a play about the sinking of the submarine Kursk. This girls asked the teacher what a submarine was.
And she was serious.
Are you in the same class? :O
I go to an all-girl's Catholic private school in Australia, so I don't think so :)

Two words: Fred Phelps
GNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Why must you make me turn green and double in size, wrecking my comfy computer chair? :(
Hey, don't blame me. According to Phelps, it's all OUR fault you broke your chair, because God hates us for "harboring" homosexuals (okay, so it's half my fault). Just remember, lacktheknack: we are to blame for all things wrong. XD

"Soldier's are baby killers and brutes."

No respect for people who think like that.

The way religious people have subverted the definitions of a great many words to reinforce their preconceptions about reality. Belief, theory, ignorance, closed-mindedness, etc.

Truth is, in order to begin arguing against evolution, the big bang, atheism or even other religions from a religious standpoint, you automatically admit your god(s)'s only place is in the gaps of human knowledge. Then everything after that is simply attempting to halt or turn back the progress of human intellect, so as to give your god a bigger gap to reside within. You are truly lost when you start using words such as "closed-mindedness" and/or "ignorance" to describe people who would prefer you either provide real proof or cease to exist.
Oddly enough I believe both are true. A book I read so long ago I don't even remember the name stated that 1 celestial day = 10,000 earth years. This basically means the 6 days in which the earth was created represent 60,000 years. Interestingly that is the estimated time it took from the earth first cooling enough to provide water and the first evolution of life on land. That's too much of a coincidence to me.

On the other hand one of the books that didn't make it into the Bible during the Nicene Creed states. "And God said 'I shall create faith' and satan replied 'and I shall organize it and call it Religion.'" Give that a slice of thought.

Guess who hates her iPod now?

Fuckin' piece of shit. I don't care if it records video and has great graphics or whatever. It's way too damn touchy. /rage

I have a list of these things all from where I work, but I had an excellent moment of this in this last week.

A girl I work with is an Insulin dependent diabetic and she uses one of those insulin pens, now because she doesn't want people staring and so on she goes off to the ladies to inject herself.

She goes into the ladies, another girl is there, she injects herself and this is the conversation.

Girl 1: "Is that Heroin?"
D-Girl: "No it's Insulin."
Girl 1: "oh my God that's even worse!"
D-Girl: "No it's designed to help me because I'm diabetic."
Girl 1: "Oh, does that help you to read better and stuff?"

I shit you not.

Another one was when we had Sky Tv broadcasting in the office a couple of years ago now. . .
News Channel George Bush on Tv
Girl 1: "Who's that?"
Girl 2: "Oh him, i fink he's the king of America or sumfink."
Picture changes to Tony Blair
Girl 1: "So who's that?"
Girl 2: "I fink he's the Prime Minister of America."

I work with morons

I was in high school when 9/11 happened. Shortly after finding out about it a few people beat up the Chinese exchange student at our school because they thought China was behind the attack. I asked one of the kids why they thought China did it and they told me "China has 2 billion people if they start a war with us they can kick our ass". I had to walk away after that.
Racism in general. That right there is complete bullshit.
omg yes! Especially when it's all in our heads, but for quoting you a "racist" thing happened just last week near where I live. Some yahoo's in the middle of the night put up a burning cross on a interracial couples home (black man, white woman, in case you wanted to know) and called him some "bad" words, scared the kids

Here's an idea. No one knows how life came about. Like, no one. Evolution is still a theory, Christianity lacks applicable science, and we're all going to pay taxes and die. Also, people will continue to believe whatever they wish to believe, even when the truth proves otherwise. Humanity is a diverse group with varying levels of idiocy, who rarely learn from mistakes made throughout history. Only real difference now is we're more complacent.

Usually whenever a stranger says something to me I prepare my self for an inevitable ridiculous remark. MAybe I'm the stupid one for humoring them.
I also find a lot of people on here are ignorant. Especially those who try to pick apart my OPINIONS and tell me that they are wrong.
I'm also sorry for this generalisation but whenever an American talks to me they say something really stupid. I've only ever met one knowledgeable, agreeable and/or understanding American person, please Escapists, let yourselves be known.

We are all capable of really ignorant or stupid etc comments. I know I make them. The person I make them to then think I'm an idiot, we have to live with that and move on. Things like throwing "facts" at someones opinions to invalidate them is unforgivably (add a long list of words meaning ignorant and insulting here.) If you don't feel stupid after doing that to someone take a long hard look at yourselves.

I now await someones attempt at invalidating my opinion just to support my statement. By all means though let me know that you are a well meaning, intelligent American.

It was a couple of years ago in my AP US History Class and there was a group of kids who kept arguing the whole class about how Roosevelt let Pearl Harbor happen to fight Germany. And they kept saying that if it wasn't for the US then Hitler would rule the world. Their main argument for why the Soviet Union got to Berlin was that because the US was coming in from the west then Hitler had to move all his armies over to stop us. I basically told them to look at timeline and that by D-Day, the Soviet Union was already kicking ass towards Berlin
the only good thing America did against Germany was mass-producing so many ships they could barely destroy them all fast enough. the Soviet Union already had Germany on its knees, and apparently getting your entire fleet destroyed as a distraction apparently counts for "saving the world".
