Monsanto. The bane of the agricultural industry. Creating special seeds that can only grow under a certain fertilizer (Guess who produces it?) which ruins your soil, forcing you to keep using their seeds. They also attack smaller farmer who ends up ruined and having to sell their farms (Guess who buys?). They send innspectors in the farms of nearby farmers because their seeds spread faster then gonorhea in an medieval brothel, and if their seeds are found BOOM! Lawsuit!

Fun fact: Monsanto used to be a chemical weapons researcher/fabricant. Yeah. I fully trust their products.

Burn them!

Who? I can understand that they want some goodie points right now but it helps when I know what the big bad evil corporation there fighting now is.
What they basically do is create genetically modified seeds that have a higher output, but can't reproduce so the farmers have to buy new ones every year. And now they're sueing people who don't use their product.

Question, who/what is monsanto?
I believe that they are a farming company that monopolized the soy bean industry and put a gigantic chunk of farmers out of business/assimilated at much lower wages.

Or I'm dumb and I'm thinking of something with a similar name.
No you're right. They fuck over farmers who try to save seeds for the next growing season. Either buy new or lose your farm is pretty much the way Monsanto rolls. Keep the seeds for the next season and they will sue your ass back to the stone age.
Its this - but more than this too. Monsanto was originally a pesticide company. The seeds they produce (mainly soybeans) are genetically engineered to withstand extreme spraying of monsanto pesticide products and still grow. This is how they got a patent for these seeds. Patented seeds are the reason they can take farmers fields if a single plant is growing on their land.

The worst thing about patented seeds is that they do not reproduce. so every year you have to buy more seeds from monsanto. there is no seed saving. Its bad for farmers in north america, but imagine what that is like for poor countries who are starving as it is. They prey on growers in second and third world countries.

This is a BREIF surface scratch on the subject, but the documentary 'The Truth About Monsanto' is actually a great watch if you are interested in what goes into your food in North America and the workings and business of Monsanto.

Monsanto holds a patent on a strain of genetically modified corn and one for GM soy beans, both engineered to be resistent to a proprietary herbicide called "Roundup". The varieties of plants are called "Roundup ready". It is the cheapest and best way to grow both crops as the herbicide kills everything except their strain of corn or soy. For cash-strapped farmers the world over, this really is the only option if they want to grow their crops reliably.

At first, they made it so that their plants would not produce seeds, so that farmers would have to purchase new seeds every year. It's also essentially making the best adapted plants sterile. They were counting on every other variety of corn or soy dying out so that everyone in the world had to buy both plants from them. Fortunately this was challenged in court and "roundup ready" plants now produce seeds. Problem is, the courts also said that farmers using these new seeds were stealing from Monsanto corporation because the specific genetic strain was proprietary.

Let that sink in for a second. They own several sequences of genes.

These are the same people who tried to patent Basmati rice, a variety of rice that has been grown in India for centuries. For some reason, US law allows them to patent life

Do a Google search for something like "monsanto protest" or "monsanto activities" and see what you get.

As for them, I can only hope that they get what's coming to them.

Ah thank you that cleared some things up.

Well according to a study 1/5 of humans genes is patented....

Which I find to be very stupid and I do not understand how you can be able to patent human genes..

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/10/1013_051013_gene_patent.html

"The top patent assignee is Incyte, a Palo Alto, California-based drug company whose patents cover 2,000 human genes."

Thank you! I was trying to pull all that info out of my head, your explanation is muuuuch better! These guys really are pure evil. Maybe the first time I was this much behind them (edit them meaning anon!). I watched the video. That was fast work! they should do that several times a day everyday.

Well I came in here not having a clue who they were or why I should care. After reading it?... Good on them, I hope anon drives them to the ground. However, if they are this big and anon do drive them into the ground... Won't that have negative effects on the farmbelt? I mean, I'm pretty sure that these farmers go to these dicks because they don't have much other choice.

OK, I never knew about Monsanto before this, I would suggest (although I know no one in Lulsec will ever see this and I might as well be urinating into the wind) that they use this attack to generate some awareness and actual protest at what Monsanto are doing. It needs to be co-ordinated with other ways of spreading awareness and actually promoting change (contact your senator and complain or whatever) otherwise if they disagree with what these people are doing, taking down the website of a multimillion $ monopoly organisation for a few hours/days will not hurt them, nor will it change the way they operate. Lulsec are just urinating into the wind[footnote]I like that phrase[/footnote] as well if they do not strive to make a change through their protests, and just do them, um.... for the lulz? Oh.

Captcha: Macleod encite.
Come on Lulsec, if you don't listen to me, listen to the captcha god (Lord Inglip!) He demands we must gain the support of enraged immortals.

Monsanto is the leading seed producer in North America. You know all those crops that people grow to get your veggies on the table? They all come from Monsanto. And they hold a stranglehold on farmers and the seed market. If you don't dispose of your seeds at the end of the season, they can charge you for stealing their property. You have to buy new seeds every season so that they keep making money. If you don't, you're out of business. They pretty much ruin anyone who tries to game the system.
they sound like a monopoly, where do they operate out of?

and oka Anon, claps for you, you took down another business cause they were doing what a business does. You should feel so proud you're getting your 15 minutes of infamy again.

For a second I thought some crazy person was calling GE crop manufacturers monstrous.
But it seems yes, Monsanto does commit shady business practices.

Too bad LulzSec is too busy Lulzing to actually use that talent for something good.

I wish it was that simple now. You can't actually buy the sterile plants anymore. They're now required by law to produce viable plants. You have to pay an agreement to use the seeds again every year. If they end up on your property because of the fact that they blew from upwind, it's your responsibility to pay for the new plants.

Monsanto "lost" the lawsuit, and have filed more on farmers who just get screwed because that crap grows damn near anywhere.

Using natural seeds is practically a form of protest now-a-days. If all farmers went back to the old ways Monsanto wouldn't be able to sue them all and Monsanto would probably go out of business.

Which then raises the question on why not just go back to natural seeds and let Monsanto go fuck them selves?

Not enough. These kinds of companies are the reason people stop trusting the courts and their governments. Scheming sons of... Destroy them, destroy them all and their evil ways.

... or just find a way around them :p
