Ok so I'd never played Ratchet and Clank before, I managed to pick up Tools of Destruction in the 4 for 20 quid section at GameStation and...wow, it's amazing. Are all the Ratchet and Clank games this good?
Can anyone tell me if the whole story is continuous, from 1 to the most recent game? Or is it in a different order or something?

Let me know people!

[HEADING=1]TOPIC TITLE IS FACT![/HEADING]

There's a reason the only poster in my room is a Ratchet & Clank poster. Actually, I think it came in the box with the original game...And I think it's double sided. I'd have to take it down to check, though.

Storylines are mostly standalones, with references to others.

Only Tools of Destruction has a "direct" sequel with Crack in Time.

Crack in Time has a very nice plot summary, though.

That said, since the first one lacks the improved strafe controls of the sequels, I feel it is inferior to all of the rest of the games in the series. And Crack in Time even improved wrench throwing, by not forcing you to crouch. Hell, you can't crouch.

But my favorite is Deadlocked, for taking the Arena battles (my favorite part of ANY of the games), and making the entire game around them.

I'm still amazed they've gone this long and can STILL think up such highly original weaponry.

Insomniac actually is my favorite developer of all time, now that I think about it!

Hell, R&C is the reason I gave in and got a PS3 a few weeks ago. Everything else is just icing on the R&C cake.

Also, download Quest For Booty.

It's $15 for about 3 hours, but goddamnit, it's RATCHET AND CLANK. Those are 3 hours of quality! And you get a Pirate Ratchet skin for Crack in Time!

Screw Naughty Dog, Insomniac is the king of Playstation.

PS1
Spyro > Crash

PS2
R&C > Jak

PS3
R&C > Resistance > Uncharted

Well gee. Thank you, Captain Obvious.

As for the story: ones on PS2 and PSP have independent plots, while ones on the PS3 (the Future series) form a single story arc.

Tools of destruction is the first part of a new story arc though some of the characters from the old games do appear. The next in the series is quest for booty and then a crack in time, a 4 player co-op game has also been announced. And yes they are all that good

The ones by Insomniac are all excellent. The ones made for PSP and ported to the PS2 are not supposed to be great, though I haven't yet played them.

Yeah, I have played 3 of the ones for the PS2 and thought they were all great games. I haven't played any on the PS3 yet though.

Yeah, I too love Ratchet and Clank. Am I cool now?

Hehe, seriously though. Only owned and played two games from the series: Ratchet and Clank(the first game) and Ratchet: Gladiator. Thoroughly enjoyed the both of them, despite my seemingly limited exposure to the series.

YES. They are all very good games, Quarktastic actually. Though the the story lines aren't completely connected there are a lot of characters and references from the other games throughout.

Going Commando, the second one, is one of my favorites out of the series. There's a really big verity of stuff to do.

Actually, let's put Uncharted ahead of Resistance.

PS1
Spyro > Crash

PS2
R&C > Jak

PS3
R&C > Uncharted > Resistance

And that's the only change I'm making there.

So I should probably go out and buy Quest for Booty then? It was a tenner in the shop I saw it last.

Thanks for that, I guess this can now just be a Ratchet and Clank appreciation thread :D

True dat. Infact, when listing the game exclusives I really wanted for Xbox and PS3 (I was deciding what one to buy, I'm not a fanboy, honest) Ratchet and Clank was the only series I genuinely cared about losing on the PS3 (this was a few years back before any one starts ;)).

However I played the first 4 on PS2 to death. They were all pretty much stand alone titles, but if you are going to play them ,I'd suggest doing it chronologically, seeing as there are a few in jokes that get flung around.

Going Commando was/is my favourite and Dead Locked probably my least liked. Would recommend it in a heartbeat though.

Quest for Booty is DL only. What are you smoking?

That said, if it says Ratchet & Clank on the box, GET IT!

EVEN IF YOU ALREADY OWN IT!

GET IT TWICE!

Get it infinity times!

This link says otherwise :D It's cheap enough too so I may just go and get it when I'm next in town and have a spare tenner.

I still need to play one of these games. Which of the PS3 games has the best gameplay?
