Ah, Joliet.

Isn't that law unconstitutional, because technically you're abridging someone's right to say something in the way they'd like to.

These are all British by the way

-I believe that is Illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament
-It is Illegal to eat mince pies on Christmas Day
-It is an act of treason to place a stamp bearing the reigning Monarch's head up-side down. (Apparently I've commited treason by accident :p)
-In Chester, Welshmen are banned from entering the city before sunrise and from staying after sunset.

The god damn blasphemy law was passed in Ireland and came into effect on January 1st. It is the biggest load of hypocritical bullshit I have been witness to in my lifetime. There's a potential ?25,000 fine for blaspheming.

But look at this
Micheal Martin, Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, opposing attempts by Islamic States to make defamation of religion a crime at UN level, 2009: 'We believe that the concept of defamation of religion is not consistent with the promotion and protection of human rights. It can be used to justify arbitrary limitations on, or the denial of, freedom of expression. Indeed, Ireland considers that freedom of expression is a key and inherent element in the manifestation of freedom of thought and conscience and as such is complementary to freedom of religion or belief.' Just months after Minister Martin made this comment, his colleague Dermot Ahern introduced Ireland's new blasphemy law.

No. TECHNICALLY freedom of speech does not cover pronunciation.

Fair enough.

But what about the 8th amendment: Cruel and unusual punishment. I think jailtime for mispronouncing a city's name falls under that amendment because it is such a harsh punishment for what is really a non-crime.

After some googling:

It is illegal to water the lawn while it is raining in Nova Scotia.
No one in Canada may watch or listen to an encrypted broadcast which is not licensed by the Canadian government. This means using US satellite systems such as "DirecTV" is illegal.
Citizens may not publicly remove bandages.
You may not pay for a fifty-cent item with only pennies. This one seems very specific, so I guess you could pay for say, a five dollar item with only pennies.
It is illegal to pretend to practice witchcraft. I guess it's legal to actually practice witchcraft.

Okay.

How about I say that the law should be repealed because it's idiotic and has no basis in sanity?

Then I say that sounds like treason, and you should be hanged. Because the punishment for treason is still a hanging. MMMMM NOW THATS AN UGLY NECKTIE!

Some country in America

QUOTE OF THE DECADE! SOMEONE CALL 4CHAN
Well, he might mean Canada, Bolivia, Mexico, Honduras, Brazil, Argentina, The United States of North America, or any other country on the continent of America, southern or northern. He's just not sure which country it is. I fail to see why this is the quote of the decade. =S

OT : Here in Iceland we probably have many silly laws that no one knows about and aren't enforced, but I do remember that we used to have a law (revoked in 1993) that if you killed a Turk you could not be prosecuted (sorry, don't know the proper way to say that in English).
Haha sorry I ment state. The schools I went to weren't excatly good when teaching Geography.

I'm not sure if it's still a law or not but 6 years ago when I was studying law in college my lecturer told us that it's legal to shoot a welshman with a crossbow providing he is standing within the boundaries of a particular castle, I think it's in Cornwall but I may be mistaken.
There was a place that would always get attacked by the Welsh and its still legal to kill a Welshman on sight. So you wont get charged with murder, just man-slaughter..

It is illegal to drag a dead horse down an Ontario street on a Sunday.

It is also illegal to have a three legged race for money in BC.
Ahh Canada.
