That seems only fair as Sony "stole" the metal gear and final fantasy franchises from Nintendo.
Oh oh oh touché!

On thread subject:They didn't steal franchises. They proposed deals so the franchises can be distributed to the 360.

it's spelt "steal" and "desperate"

I never like MGS or FF so I couldn't care less. That's just how business works.

I'm never gonna understand people who seem to think companies that develop games and consoles care about console exclusives or the lack thereof. They don't. It's all about the money, my friend. The smart company (or at least the financially prudent one) goes where the money is. Therefore, Final Fantasy is now available on every console.

Don't worry bud, thanks to Apple, Vista, and the ipod, Microsoft won't become a monopoly.

Also, they are only buying "multiplatform rights" - it doesn't seem like MGS Rising is 360 only, just "also on 360". You pay a company to put their game on your console, it's always been this way.

Also..."COMPETITION OMG!"

I don't think that Kojima will outright abandon the PS3, after all, MGS4 was one of the few PS3 exclusives that actually turned a profit. If they release another MGS game on PS3, it will sell, and I don't think that they will abandon that.

As for the Monopoly thing, In the U.S. Monopolies are illegal, and any company that is a monopoly gets forcibly seperated by the government to make 2 companies.

I think that there is only 1 monopoly in the U.S. and thats the electric company, Edison electricity I think its called, most likely wrong though.

Let's break this shit down.

Microsoft didn't buy out the MGS franchise, Hideo is doing this willingly, he even had a 'spoiler' to where MGS would be going next.

What I think companies should do is make a single console that can work with all PS3 games, all 360 games and all Nintendo games all connected to the same server so that gamers can all play together.
The gaming market would then be pointless because there would just be one system. Eventually the one system would fall into the 'Atari Effect.' Meaning that the market would become saturated with shitty games for one system, its own success would be its downfall.

Or just make a completly new console that has games worked on by all of the big 3 so that there isn't going to be this ruthless fight to the death to see who has the most exclusives.
It really isn't a fight to see who has the most exclusives it's a fight to make money. Exclusives sell consoles, consoles sell games, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Now do you know how to spell 'steal'?
Also monopolies in the U.S.A. are actually illegal for a damn good reason.

I spy a Sony fanboy... As it happens, Microsoft aren't always stealing Sony's thunder, and even if they did, it's competition. They're perfectly within their rights to do whatever it takes to get more sales, more revenue, more profit, as long as they don't use unfair practises. I honestly can't see anything wrong with this.

You forgot the DMV, the biggest monopoly in America.

Slightly on topic, once Microsoft saved Apple from bankrupcy just so they wouldn't have to deal with the limitations that being a monopoly brings.

They'll never get away with it! They'll have to pry Park Place from my cold dead hands!
But seiously companies want money, and if they all combined to make a super system they would lose money. And it's not that Microsoft hates Sony(they probably do, but not the point)it's that they want more exclusives to make more money!

That's true, although the shitty games were spread across many, many different consoles.

EDIT: Wait, Microsoft are desperate because they are doing a better job at improving their console than Sony are by giving a better E3 show?

Yeah.

The problem with a single game consule is that it would disclude any future companies from ever trying to join the console industry.

There goes any claim of being unbiased. It's perfectly within their rights as a business to use their hard-earned cash to make more money. As long as they don't actively send spies to Sony headquarters, I don't care. Isn't competition better for us (the consumers) in the long run?

Now most of what you say is a broken mess but I agree with you on one point: Microsoft should head into active production of video games rather than trying to get exclusive content secured.

Why not actually suppot gaming and start new development studios with that kind of money? They could really churn out some incredible titles and sway me towards buying their system rather thn buying exclusive content/DLC/rights and just angering me because they like to hog the silly bastards. After that incredible meh of E3 announcements I am in no way temted to check out the system (the Epic 2d game looked good, but still).

Ok, I don't know about you, but Microsoft must have some really deep pockets or their steeling money from Bill Gate's wallet. They have now bought out the MGS franchise doing the same as last year when they bought the FF franchise.

Now I have nothing wrong with any exclusives and acually I havent played any either of these games so none of my thoughts are biased.

But now microsoft is taking away any exclusives from the PS3 just to say they have them. I really hope that Microsoft isn't going to make the MGS or FF franchises exclusives for the Xbox 360 because that would alienate any PS3 gamers that have ever thought of playing those games.

This would also make it much easier for developers to make their games because what ever make only has to be configured for 1 console, not 2 or three.

(sorry about any grammer and/or spelling mistakes for I wrote this as I was about to go to bed)

UPDATE: if anyone is to have many exclusives it should be Sony becase you can acually play the game on the console befor it getts the RROD and if it does get a system failure then the customer suppor is much better.

UPDATE,UPDATE: The single console concept would not end competition, people are still going to make a competition on which game is best and will try to top them, it would just end the ruthlesness.
Ah ha, what?

It is at this point that I feel I should interject and say that I don't think Microsoft, no matter what their intentions, were at any point worried about alienating those that owned the competitor's console

My point is that Microsoft must be secretly desperate to have to steal Sony's thunder every E3.

What I think companies should do is make a single console that can work with all PS3 games, all 360 games and all Nintendo games all connected to the same server so that gamers can all play together. The problems with this idea have doubtless been raised already, but here's one of the big ones again, just to hammer it in.

If a market had one giant company with no competitors, that company could charge whatever the hell they want for that console and it's games with no need to put down the price at all just because it's a nice thing to do.

(sorry about any grammar and/or spelling mistakes for I wrote this as I was about to go to bed)
That's quite alright, it gave me something to do.

UPDATE: if anyone is to have many exclusives it should be Sony because you can actually play the game on the console before it gets the RROD and if it does get a system failure then the customer support is much better.
Before I laugh heartily, allow me to tell you the tale of my PS3 owning friend.
He had his console die on him a about a month ago and has found that the customer support doesn't really know what they're doing, unless their job is actually to stand there repeating "Are you sure it's actually broken? It is a PS3 after all."
He spent about an hour on the phone before they came to the conclusion that his console was actually broken, then cut him off. He then had to call up and, despite his objections, go through the whole process again before being told what to do about it.
The repairs, starting from the time he first sent the console away, have now taken about a month.

UPDATE,UPDATE: The single console concept would not end competition, people are still going to make a competition on which game is best and will try to top them, it would just end the ruthlessness.
No it wouldn't.

The thing is there is no competition.

Sony has drew its focus on more japanese titles such as JRPGS, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy.

Microsoft has drew its focus on a "hardcore" audience with titles such Halo, Half-Life, and Gears of War.

Nintendo has drew its focus on a more casual audience with titles such as Wii Fit, Wario Ware, and whatever other kinds of games they have. (I stopped paying attention.)

Sure, theres overlap, games for all systems, but in the end you need to pick which of those three you like best.
