Don't be such a downer. It's obviously a giant alien fleet bent on wiping out all humanity.factualsquirrel said:So gravity fucked it up.
It's quite obviously not a spaceship, although I've no idea what it is.
Yeah, but what does FTL travel have to do with anything?oppp7 said:Don't be such a downer. It's obviously a giant alien fleet bent on wiping out all humanity.factualsquirrel said:So gravity fucked it up.

OT: I wish it was something more, but common sense says no, it's just a meteor.
Besides, I don't even believe in faster than light travel.
I'm saying that aliens probably can't go faster than light either because it's impossible.factualsquirrel said:Yeah, but what does FTL travel have to do with anything?oppp7 said:Don't be such a downer. How do you expect to reach other solar systems or other galaxies without traveling faster than light or at least AT the speed of light? I should remind you that the closest star to our own Sun is Proxima Centauri and it's about 4.22 light years away.factualsquirrel said:Yeah, but what does FTL travel have to do with anything?oppp7 said:Don't be such a downer. Because anything slower than light would take hundreds of years to come from even the closest star system.factualsquirrel said:Yeah, but what does FTL travel have to do with anything?oppp7 said:Don't be such a downer. Actually, there are a few theories that might possibly work. Most notably, a warp drive. Basically (and please don't ask me to explain in detail, this stuff is bonkers)it creates a small area of space where the speed of light is faster than the one in the normal universe, so inside of the warp, you're still going slower than light, but to the rest of the universe, it's faster.oppp7 said:I'm saying that aliens probably can't go faster than light either because it's impossible.

You misunderstood me, I know all that, and don't think it's possible myself. I meant when did anyone mention FTL travel? I thought oppp7 was joking about aliens, and about invasions and stuff, and that we were talking about a comet...AndyFromMonday said:How do you expect to reach other solar systems or other galaxies without traveling faster than light or at least AT the speed of light? Stasis/cryogenesis and auto-pilot. Sure, it has yet to be perfected, but we'll get there, I'm sure.AndyFromMonday said:How do you expect to reach other solar systems or other galaxies without traveling faster than light or at least AT the speed of light? Pft. We're all going at about 67,000mph. Does not impress.Syphous said:http://www.techeblog.com/index.php/tech-gadget/nasa-s-hubble-captures-strange-spaceship-like-object-going-11-000mph
We haven't even found Prothean tech on Mars yet! Ruh roh!
Honestly though, teh hell is that??
Yeah, swamp gasses reflecting off of Venus right? I've seen that movie...moeller said:sorry to disapoint all of ur geeky fantasys. but Its just gasses.
