1. FTL is impossible (discounting the warp drive loophole) bending space, however, is not. Holding to that, you don't have to travel at massive speeds to move massive distances rapidly ie. Battlestar Galactica jump style.

2. Gravity is an unlikely cause for a shape like that.

3. Let us dub it "unclassified debris" until it changes course on its own or shows other signs of abnormal activity.

4. I hope it is an alien spacecraft, we have nukes if we need to defend ourselves, and we have a lot to learn if they are peaceful.

reminds me of some of the spacecraft in Freelance. The high-end ones you get at max level.

Looks very cool, to be honest with you.

Well it's obviously where the space treasure is hidden.

Well, it doesnt really matter if it doesnt look like a spaceship now does it?
Its probably not, but they could be a hell of alot more advanced than us and have developed some kind of cloaking device of awesome sauce.

yeah and 11,000 MPH is not even CLOSE to the speed of light (186,000 Miles per SECOND) so they are probably not much more advanced than we are.

Astronomy Picture of the Day. Nasa is agreeing with the comet collision. But we're all smarter than to believe that.

If you get to this link tomorrow the picture/article will be different. So follow this one..

I was going to point this out. Instead, I will address the various fesability of space travel threads on this topic with a quote from SF author Charlie Stross' excellent blog [http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/], which has many posts dealing with the actuality of space travel/colonization, "Colonize the Gobi desert, colonise the North Atlantic in winter - then get back to me about the rest of the solar system!" [http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2007/06/the-high-frontier-redux.html]

More recent posts about the problems with space travel can be found here [http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2009/11/on_the_road_yet_again_and_agai.html] and here [http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2009/11/still_on_the_road_sort-of.html] and here [http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/2009/11/designing_society_for_posterit.html].
