Why is not being backwards compatible a good thing? I can't just rebuy all old games on the next console, especially since they won't all be available.

I can't just keep old consoles forever. I don't have infinite space here.
It is called, "Learn to Manage your Space Better".

It honestly isn't that hard. As someone who has only lived in tiny little places, there are plenty of ways you can organize and store items and objects in a small space. Ottomans, folding and stacking furniture. There are plenty of ways to do this, so you really have no excuse about not having space.
Oh but I am managing my space better. By not buying the xbox one. Problem solved.

You forgot the fifth point: You're probably not going to get one anyway.

I certainly won't.

How about the fact that when you're watching Tv or any other things, the Kinect, which is integrated and cant turn off, will be on and most likely monitoring your facial expressions and what you say and send the info back to whatever dark corner of Microsoft, further making profit in behaviour analysis and sell that infomation down the line ...aaaaaah invasion of privacy, HAL 9000-style

It's looking like I might "upgrade" to a Slim, but I won't be moving to the Xbox 1. Thanks for everything, Microsoft!

I said it on a different thread i'll say it again, it may as well be a US exclusive, those "great" tv functions will only work in the US on release, so what do we EU guys have to look forward to right now? Oh CGI of Forza, Quantum sumat, a cod that basically looks like Black Ops 2 and YAY kinect...again...I don't want a kinect.

I really didn't see anything next gen and all this has to connect every 24 hours makes me not want one, i'll just spend the £3-400 to buy a 2nd gpu for my pc.

didnt even think of that, so not only is it rather meh as a gaming platform but i wont be able to use many of the advertised features because i live in the wrong continent? fuck you microsoft, fuck you

We are months away from the launch of #XboxOne [https://twitter.com/search/%23XboxOne] & policy decisions are still being finalized. When they are, we will let you know.

The tone of that one sounds pretty damage-controlly to me. I may see something at E3 that'll change my mind, but right now, I'm not feeling the excitement I really thought I would for their new console...

Wait, it has an 8-core CPU? It seems Microsoft have fallen into the same trap that Sony did with the PS3. That unusual architecture will make it much harder to develop for cross-platform.
And it also explains why there's no backwards compatibility.

Not at launch, anyway. Sometime in the future, hopefully. But yes, that is a rather huge oversight for such a company. I'm used to the US forgetting about the rest of the world, but come on...

This is my favorite thing that Microsoft has ever done. It's the same thing they did with the original XBox, only now it's even more glaringly obvious.

"We made a shitty gaming PC with no customizability, no keyboard or mouse input available, running a shitty mobile OS!"

Nothing to worry about, unless you're actually rooting for these assholes.

Reason to not be worried:

Hmm, because I'll keep playing PC games as I have been for 15 years. Last console I owned was PS2, which I still dust off every now and then for a round of Tekken Tag.

Yes, I realise there's several other threads, but they're all spewing bullshit and hate and I thought it would be better to just show the FACTS about the console.
1. There is an Always Online DRM system built into the platform, but Microsoft is leaving the decision to use it up to the Publishers. The gun is on the table, waiting to be used to hold your game hostage, and Microsoft openly encourages their partners to use it.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/xbox-one-analysis/

Wired Article said:
Xbox One will give game developers the ability to create games that use Microsoft?s Azure cloud computing service, which means that they might be able to offload certain computing tasks to the cloud rather than process them on the Xbox One hardware itself. This would necessitate the game requiring a connection.

Are developers forced to create games that have these online features, and are thus not playable offline? They are not, Xbox exec Whitten said to Wired ? but ?I hope they do.? So the always-online future may come in incremental steps.
This is a HUGE problem waiting to happen; we've already seen how "wonderful" Always-Online has been with disasters like Diablo 3 and SimCity 2013, and it's clear how some publishers (EA, Blizzard and Ubisoft) have been chomping at the bit for an Always-Online standard platform, just so they can strongarm their customers even more post-purchase.

Of all the bitching that's been done about the system, this is by FAR the worst thing on it.
You can ignore the Kinect 2.0 and social media garbage just fine. The loss of Used Games is no surprise to anyone whose been a PC gamer for the last 8 or so years. But Always Online is a total downgrade for the overwhelming majority of games.

2. It's not a big deal to begin with. No complaints.

3. This is true. Sucks, but the truth kinda sucks sometimes.

4. The Used/Pre-owned game deal has been the biggest point of contention with console owners.
Right now, Microsoft is shuffling their feet on whether or not non-install used games will exist on the market.
I'm thinking the answer is "no", given the enormous pressure from their publisher bed-mates to eliminate Used Games from the market entirely.

So really, NONE of those are really "Reasons to not be worried about the Xbox One", Unless you were scared shitless about losing your achievements and gamerscore for some reason.

It will NOT be backwards compatible
"Xbox One hardware is not compatible with Xbox 360 games. We designed Xbox One to play an entirely new generation of games?games that are architected to take full advantage of state-of-the-art processors and the infinite power of the cloud. We care very much about the investment you have made in Xbox 360 and will continue to support it with a pipeline of new games and new apps well into the future."
This statement set off my bullshit alarm in quite a spectacular way, there is no reason for the architecture to prevent backwards compatibility unless they wanted it to and designed it in such a way as to prevent it, whilst their statement is technically correct the way they've said it is heavily twisted so as to make it look like something they could do nothing about.

To be honest, I never planned on getting the new Xbox anyway, I just like reading up about this stuff.
360 has PowerPC tri-cores clocked at 3.2GHz each, new Xbox has 8 x86-64 cores clocked at 2GHz. Emulation would be an absolute nightmare (how do you get a slower core to emulate a faster one, at playable speeds?). Emulation of the first Xbox is possible for the One, that one had a single core 733MHz processor, but Microsoft wouldn't pump R&D dollars into that, given the low return on investment.
I'm able to play Beneath A Steel Sky, the original Dungeon Keeper, the first Command and Conquer and the a LOT of other older games on my PC. I mean seriously, stuff that came out over 15 years ago. If they can make those "ancient" pieces of software work on a very modern PC I have no doubt they can make a 7 year old game work on the XBone
PC's srill use the x86 architecture from those years and thus its compatible, OS issues aside. The PS3 and Xbox360 used a different type, the PS3 being cell and 360 being tri core, it would be like getting an arm processor fame from android to run on your desktop out of the box, it wont without emulation (which chews lots of resources) or recoding the game.
Still both consoles shoild hace a premium bc version for us core gamers that would be happy to pay the extra few bucks, such a console would basically have the precious gen built into it (cpu/gpu etc)

"Just show the Call of Duty Trailer already..."

Ending was the best though :p

Agreed on the PS4 Ad Front, even my mother (Who knows nothing console wise) thought it was a kick in the balls to pay extra for a second hand game.
The Bad Press alone could sink this console.

Still, It might be illegal in the EU and The Live TV is US only on launch So us Europeans won't need to worry about this brick :p

They might win me over if they make Xbox Live free ... doubt it though.
Welp, it's not free as far as I know, but I just read something on Multiple accounts using only one subscription

Ill be frank here, I don't like much of what I saw in the presentation, but I'll play devils advocate here for a few minutes. It seems like on the hardware end they seem to have taken alot of complaints to heart, and apparently theres going to be FIFTEEN first party titles lined up for launch (and shown at E3). If the majority aren't Kinect titles, they may avoid the long gaming wasteland that happened after the launch back in '05.
15 exclusives, that was big talk yeah. But then there was a lot of this EA sports talk...

NHL 14
FIFA 14
NBA 14
MLB 14
Madden NFL 14
NCAA 14
Tiger Woods 14

Whee, we're already almost halfway there!

Oh, 8 of them are going to be new franchises they said? Well, sure, just mix some volleyball and tennis in there as well. And of course there's the next CoD there as well, so another slot taken.

In other words, it's quite possible to be technically telling the truth about the 15 exclusive titles, 8 of which are new franchises, and still bring nothing worthy of notice to the table, and I do not for a moment believe anymore that the industry will go for anything better than the worst they can get away with.

Okay, let's see...

1. It requires at least one connection within every 24 hours to the internet. That is nearly as bad. People whose power or internet is knocked out for long periods due to things beyond their control are screwed. The console should work for the gamer, not the other way around. So much for consoles being gaming machines without the hassle of a PC.
Im sorry but if my power is knocked out for a long period of time that last thing I will be worried about is that I cant play my xbox because of no internet.

Right now there are only things that could possibly influence me to consider buying the XBone over the PS4, and both of them are taken from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:
1. It is slightly cheaper
2. It has the words 'Don't Panic' in large, friendly letters on the cover.
