Have you had any awkward moments or realizations lately?

I've reached that awkward stage of life that I have to now consider the age of the person I'm dating (high school age, I'm no pedo)

I wasn't under the impression people seriously dated until they reached that age...

Not so much discovered recently but I realised some fictional characters are far more important to me than most people in real life...

I have also discovered that some fictional characters are far more important than most people in real life, though i made that discovery a couple of years ago now.

OP: Recent awkward moments have been when I've been down to visit the guy I'm seeing. Awkward because being around his family sometimes makes me feel like they don't like me and I notice myself being extremely shy and quiet , two things I am not. I should also mention that the guy I'm seeing is my ex from a few years ago. I had been once quite close to his family now I have to try and win them back over.

My extended family is pretty horrible & obsessive...this was realised after spending the weekend helping them reconnaissance a triathlon course for my 10 year old cousin who really didn't want to compete.

And most of my friends are morons, but I think everyone gets that.

:p As for me, no awkward moments, but I did have a realization a couple weeks ago about my favorite anime, Rurouni Kenshin.

Specifically it finally became clear how Kenshin and Soujiro have "identical yet opposite" pasts which shaped how they became two completely different people. Both were incredibly young when they were faced with a life and death situation. Yet while Kenshin was pulled back and protected when he tried to run off and attack some bandits that were killing everyone around him, Soujiro was fully encouraged to kill his family which was threatening his life. Kenshin was saved by Hiko Seijuro, master of the Hiten Mitsurugi style which was developed to protect people from the harshness of the times, Soujiro was saved by Shishio Makoto, a ruthless killer who's mantra was "If you are strong you live, if you are weak you die." As such, both Soujiro and Kenshin were rescued by masters with opposing viewpoints: protecting innocents vs using them as food to make yourself stronger. Both followed their master's teachings perfectly...to the point that Kenshin wasn't satisfied staying in seclusion while others were suffering and so he abandoned his master to join a war. Soujiro, however, took to his master's teachings to the point of becoming an unstoppable assassin. And that's when the two meet: the light apprentice vs the dark apprentice. One sees the weak as nothing but fodder to slaughter, the other is determined to protect the weak from such slaughter.

So many parallels between the two characters, they truly are a case of "there but by the grace of god go I".

That most people around me that are my age are selfish asses who only live to drink themselves to death. I knew that a while ago but they always find new ways to suprise me - particularly the selfish part.

It occurred to me recently that I've been living in Texas for almost four years. I never planned to be living in Dallas this long. D:

I noticed that not long ago too.

I noticed a few month ago that my opinion on people gets worse the longer I'm away from them.

I realised recently that I'm soon to be turning 21. I know, sounds like something hard to miss, right? I was always aware of it, but I only just realised it. I'm not a teenager any more, I'm pretty much a full-fledged adult.

And that thought scares the pants off of me in a way that nothing else possibly could.

That people equate rational arguments with a lack of empathy. It almost makes me feel sorry for Mortai considering how often people use that on him. Then I remember the last twenty post argument I read of his.

Actually yeah...
I went to get a cup of coffee with a good friend I hadn't seen in 2 weeks due to certain circumstances and we sat there talking, then he said he'd found a new girlfriend and told me some about her. We came to the conclusion that I work with this girls mother (I am 21, he is 22 and she's 18).
The next day at work I start talking with said girls mom when I suddenly just say, by the way, did you know your daughter is together with one of my best friends?
Her asnwer:
My daughter doesn't have a boyfriend...
yeeeah...

This might need some context to back it up: See, I graduated from university last year and finally became a real, working job-type adult with responsibilities yo. Seeing as how I graduated with a degree in Education in a country sorely lacking in teachers, it didn't take long for me to find a job. The other thing you need to know is that the country I live and work in is dominantly Roman-Catholic, extremely conservative and poorly educated for the most part, especially on matters that the Catholic church deems "inappropriate".

On the topic of being poorly educated, let me put that into context: while the vast, VAST majority of people in the country are Roman Catholic, the other majority are Muslim (demographics wise, if you put all the Muslims together, they'd outnumber all the other beliefs/religions, so they're not a small number). Most people have long-since had the "all Muslims are terrorists" thought since before 9/11, and most people are unaware that it's a religion, and not say, a race or nationality. Most people in this country cannot locate the USA, or Canada or even Europe (yes, the entire continent) on a map (I know this because I tried.)

It was the last week of school (the school year here runs from June to late March/early April), and my classes were all done with their coursework for the year, so I gave them all the classes I had for that day a free period and just supervised.

So I was in my homeroom class, and I was walking around the desks and I get stopped by a group of girls who wanted to ask about something personal. Specifically, about male masturbatuion habits. I (very quickly) regained my composure and asked why they're bringing up male masturbation, to which they said that they were just curious, and figured it'd be better to ask from a teacher than from a teenaged male student. So I figure, "Why not? I mean, better they learn this from a concerned adult who has education in the matter, and not a priest or television or by experimenting with a male student." (see, Catholic schools tend to have "morality clauses" where you get expelled if you end up being or getting someone pregnant) It's a very difficult conversation to have (particularly when the age difference is less than 10 years) and I kept having to clarify that I'm being clinical about it and I seriously have no ulterior motives or hidden intentions.

Realisation: Now I am moved out everyone is acting like my next `Big Step` in life is to pop out a sprog. My mum's been making hints about how lovely it is my flat has a second bedroom and my boyfriends mother keeps shooting me nervous looks and reminding me she has quite enough grandchildren already. They make me feel like a pregnancy time-bomb.
Freeeaking me out.

Weird, that's the exact opposite that it usually is.

This, I recently turned 20 and I don't think it's quite sunk in yet. 0_0 I may technically be an adult, but I sure as hell don't feel like one, kind reminds me of this comic:

I did a bit of work for a charity shop. One of the other volunteers was from India, and he had the accent to end all accents. Anyway, we were working side by side, so after about ten minutes of awkward silence, he said something. I couldn't make it out, so I asked him to repeat. Still, I didn't understand. This persisted, until after the fourth try, I faked a moment of realisation and said what looked like the safe option: 'I don't know'. Then he smiled and said, slightly more clearly, 'No, I meant, have you got any brothers or sisters.'
I wanted to vanish.

Ah yes. I realized this about a month ago after 5 years of smoking and having huge coughing fits in the morning. Didn't really give me cause for concern except I coughed for so long and so hard it actually made me throw up. I should probably cut back, eh?

I kind of get that, but for the most part I can ignore it for three reasons: It is very fun to drink, there are enough unselfish people for me to carve out a social niche, and if I ignored people for possessing those two qualities, I'd never get laid.

That said, in terms of finding a relationship with actual substance, I'm lost. This does lead into my own recent awkward realization that a friend of mine has a crush on me. This is a knife edge situation. I must tread lightly or fall through the ice (there are totally polar bear walruses in the ice water, guys!)
