I just watch his videos for the laughs,i think your a bit too sensitive if his oppinions on a game you like really get to you. And as far as not playing long enough, a game should be fun and immersive right of the bat. not everyone is willng to put up with a boring start of a game in hopes that it will improve later on. In fact, i think he has addresed the whole "it gets better later" thing in one of his videos.
He did, but the problem is that in all of his other videos, he explicitly stated that it was either shit to start and got interesting, but still not good, or he said that he didn't play it fully. In Monster Hunter's case, you get to the big fighting missions an hour in (unless you intentionally repeat grindey fetch quest missions/do optional missions), yet he clearly never got to the boss fight, so he played barely any time and then made the entire game sound like it was the first couple tutorial missions.

In short: Monster Hunter fans aren't annoyed because he went "It's crap starting out, so I stopped", they are annoyed because he went "The entire game is grindey crap and fighting weak ass monsters" even though that's not what the game is about at all. (It's also nothing like Deer Hunter, and has no RPG elements, so I dunno where that comparison came from).

I think it's fine if he only reviewed the first couple of hours. He has a policy about chucking games if they're boring early on.

If it takes more than 2-5 hours for me to enjoy a game, then it's a crap game.
Exactly my thoughts.

He has to review a game and get his little rant out, while doing his own aspirations including books, games and the mana bar.
If it takes more than 5 hours for the game to get good, then most people are not going to bother with it. Let alone play it again.

Well, if you spend two hours with a game and can't have any fun with it, I don't think you should be forced to keep playing it. Reviews are opinions, and Yahtzee's is that Monster Hunter isn't worth playing. I do agree with many things he says (not in this particular case, I didn't play MHT), but I just don't value it as much as he does. If I followed Yahtzee's opinion every single time, I'd have something like 5 games.

How many times will I have to repeat the same thing? I AGREE WITH YOU. The problem is not that Yahtzee quit because he wasn't having fun (although it only really takes an hour to get to the meat of MH, which Yahtzee clearly didn't). The problem is that, instead of stating that, he implied the entire game is like the tutorial, which would be like claiming that the entirety of Starcraft is only playing missions as the Terran where you can barely build anything, or the entirety of Portal is walking around without the portal gun.

I think people take Yahtzee far too seriously. He's here because he provides comedy, not because you should take all his reviews seriously and follow his every recommendation. If it's your favorite game or a game you really like, great! Don't pay attention to him and keep on enjoying your game. It's not like his opinion magically overshadows your own...

Do you feel like it is an insult to his fans?
You can't please fans. Although some of my friends talked about him never even getting past the tutorial. But eh. I watch for teh lulz. He does them for teh lulz. And the Escapist puts money in his pocket. Sun rise, sun set.

I don't remember the first 5 hours of Fallout 3 being boring and pointless. In fact if you followed the main plot there was a big boss battle within the first 2 hours.
It took me around 3-4 hours to actually be able to do anything. I didn't have a decently powerful gun until 2 hours and even then I was lucky to find ammo for it. About 5 hours got me to the big battle where you get the fat man. It was very boring the first while but once you get a good gun it gets better from there.

Yahtzee gives a game a good "review" and people dislike him.
Yahtzee gives a game a bad "review" and people dislike him.
Yahtzee runs out of time to play all the way through a video game and people dislike him.

Honestly, can't we just enjoy his comedy and not take it too seriously?

You knowingly creating a repeat topic, less than a week after the original was made? Isn't that a no no round these parts?

Anyway, isn't it his call how long he spends playing a game? I didn't think anybody took him so seriously.

Maybe he had a busy week, is a man not allowed to have a busy week?

If you didn't like that one don't watch another, I am sure he won't mind.

His show, his choice. Ideally, it would be nice if he gave each game 5+ hours, but especially after opening the Mana Bar, I assume he doesn't have much time on his hands anymore. Add on to that his personal life, writing an episode, and animating it, and he wouldn't have much time on his hands, would he?

i may agree with your statement, but i agree with yahtzee when he says the wii controls are ridiculous for games where you have to move around an open area

I think he is a little distressed because he never really has time to appreciate a game. He has to play a new one every single week and that would drive me insane. I get a new game every 3 months, and that is sometimes to much for me.

And, he is a game critic that uses comedy. Not a reviewer. Bitching about it only makes him more powerful.

Exactly, Yahtzee brings comedy to the gaming world, not spot-on accurate reviews.
