Recomend Me some Anime

I thought I would be original and say Elfen Lied but apparently everyone else likes that one too...

So Afro Samurai. I think it's been said once before, but a big black samurai with an afro played by Samuel L. Jackson is just cool no matter what. Wow, I actually just realized that most of the anime I watch is super bloody. So I guess I'll balance it out and say that Avatar: The Last Airbender is great.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and say dubbed anime are just fine. I don't understand why people try to act like they are so discerning and high-class by being such subtitle snobs; it's like trying to be the smartest kid in the retarded class.

Elfien lied.
At first it looks like a hentai with a lot of gore, but it's not. It actually has a compelling story. The nudity is annoying sometimes, like when a retarded girl want her boobs to be touched and there's a lot of gore, but it's very touchy. I didn't like the ending, but everything else was great.
When somebody dies your not like ''Oh, that's awesome!'', but your more like ''Oh, shit, that got to hurt and i really wouldn't like to be in his/her place.''

My problem with most anime, is that it basically boils down to Princess Robot Bubblegum.

I was so excited that anime like this would exist without taking it shelf seriously, that I actually though I had found something new to watch... Guess I'll just have to watch regular anime...(but it would have been so cool if this show existed in real life!)...

Yay I just finished watching Welcome to the NHK. It was awesome. Misaki got a little annoying after the suicide thingy though ._.

Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo, Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex and Darker Than Black.

...all those plus Initial-D, Spriggan, Appleseed, Noir, Ergo Proxy, Texhnolyze, and Serial Experiements: Lain (and Aeon Flux if we are stretching the definition a bit).


But only if you like futuristic/cyberpunk-style stuff that focusses more on characters and themes than just karate-action. Otherwise stick to Naruto and Inuyasha and Bleach and whatever other mystic-ninja-schoolkid-thenewmessiah stuff is out there.

That said, the kid in Evengelion is FUCKING ANNOYING.



Also: Full Metal Panic, Macross and Gundam Seed are awesome in a giant robots kind of way =P

I'm well aware of the fact that I'm hardly speaking for the masses in expressing my hatred for Death Note. I just found it so unlikable. I think the characters are all a bunch of unsympathetic douchebags or annoying idiots (Misa comes really really really close to topping my list of "Worst characters ever"). I find most, if not all, of the characters about as appealing as a piece of moldy bread. The only thing I actually liked about the series was the intro for the first season. Now THAT was awesome.

For the record, anyone who takes the Princess Robot Bubblegum trailer seriously needs to see good anime. This seems to apply to large portions of the Escapist community.

Haruhi (first season, endless eight ruined the second season)
Gurren Lagann
Nanoha A's (it's an "otaku anime," for lack of better description, but I'm a fanboy for a reason)
Possibly Evangelion. I personally loved it, but many seem to hate it. A lot of hate seems to come from Shinji, though I'm one of ten people who doesn't hate him.
Higurashi, and important note about it: don't be turned off by the comedy bits, it's not really about those.
