Some people have brought up Minecraft and Castle Crashers. Those are great suggestions.

Do you have any clues as to what she likes in the games she does play? Does she enjoys more linear story lines?

She has a really picky taste but if I find a game she likes she'll play it. The games she likes most right now are little big planet, the uncharted series, and splinter cell conviction. I tried getting her on the previous splinter cells but she didn't like it. I also got her tomb raider thinking she might like it but she didn't. She doesn't want to fight aliens or zombies or anything like that.
May I suggest, with all emphasis, Portal. It has a really easy learning curve (as most of the game is tutorial) and is an amazing story. It might get her more interested in the other valve games too (half-life and such) which is always a win.

If I could recommend some games from the wii online store, (I never use it, but there are some good classic games that I think she might like.)

Kirby 64, cute platformer with a fair amount of difficulty, (I mean, no problem beating it, but I believe you certaintly will die every once in a while.)And you can combine powers, so you can just explore all the possibilities, maybe jumping from level to level looking for a certain ability because you think it will go great with another you have, and the environments are very cute or pretty, except when you run into the industrial level, but its packed with nice atmosphere.

If you can hook her on mario, Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. (I know you didn't list any RPGs up there, but it has a lot of nice story and variety to it, the characters are funny, overall, its a great game. You can do what my twin brother and I did, you have 3 characters in your party (5 in total so you can swap out), so you can pick which characters you want have for yourself, time the button presses to do extra damage, choose which special attack you want to use,)) Overall, its a fairly lengthy game, and even if she doesn't want to play it, it certainly is interesting to watch, I believe. It doesn't feel overcrowded with enemies in my opinion, the backgrounds keep changing, theres all sorts of secret items to find, it isn't scary, and it has a ton of little minigames scattered throughout.
Its made by square enix and isn't made out of paper. Just a personal suggestion.

Someone already mentioned Beyond Good and Evil, yeah, that looks like a good one, and its ten bucks on xbox online.

Good luck.

Hey so my girlfriend is starting to get into gaming (I know how awesome right) once she gets into a game it almost becomes addicting to her (she will have longer gaming sessions then me if she really likes the game). Anyways the only that is stopping her from getting more into is the lack of games that appeal to her. Also she is not a big fan of horror games. She tried Assassin's Creed I as well but that didn't fly, I might get her to try Assassin's Creed 2 though. We also played a little bit of Call of Duty World at War single player campaign which was ok but I don't think she was thrilled. I was hoping you guys could give me some games that might appeal to her.

We are not limited by system either all 3 current generations are available although she isnt a big fan of the wii.

Bonus points if you can recommend a game that is split screen co-op. She likes games we can play together.
OP, you need to determine what kind of gamer your gf is. So, I'd go with Gamefly (and I think NetFlix offers games as well now) to save money and time and get a good crash course.

Does she only like cutesy games like Mario Kart and Little Big Planet? Does she like hardcore games or simple casual games? I'd start with her interests in TV and movies as a springboard and work from there. Good luck.

How about Half-Life 2? The learning curve is nice and gradual, and the world is engrossing.
Or howabout one of the Hitman games if she's into stealth (plus disguises!)?
And as previously mentioned, Portal 2 will have co-op. Although it's hard to recommend a game not yet released, the first Portal was fantabulous.

Or maybe you should ask her what sort of thing she wants to play? Or have her pick them herself? In my experience people are more likely to enjoy a game they discover themselves than one hoisted on them by a friend/bf/family member, however well intentioned they may be.

On a side note, I wish more current-gen games had spit-screen co-op. Devs seem to have got the idea that multi-player just equals online play. I don't want to have to buy two consoles and two copies of the software just to play a game with my brother.

Sengoku Basara series, 90% of the their hardcore fans are women, or so the producer says.

Oh dude, Flower on the PSN! I'm not saying that, cause she's a girl. I love Flower myself.

Also Braid and Portal are things I'd show my girlfriend if she was a gamer.

MineCraft is a great game to play together providing you have two computers and at least one with reasonable RAM and a good internet connection.

Just started playing with my girlfriend recently and it's all we've been playing! About 45 hours clocked so far, in about a Week. We... have a problem...

Honestly, give it a try; make a server and play just the two of you. If you're not together at the time, use a mic software like teamspeak or ventrilo.

I played City of Heroes (a very good but now quite dated MMO) together with my gf for a while; it is a nice simple game with a friendly community. She loved the character creator :p It's around 7 years old now but still unbeaten!

I got my girlfriend to enjoy New Vegas. I had to walk her through all of the little gaming conventions that I know by heart but, once I got her into it, she didn't want to stop playing. Hah! That's me and my high Charisma. Now if only my Intelligence was higher...

Portal 2. Get her started with Portal 1. It's quick, fun, and original. If she enjoys it, spend that $60 in a month and enjoy some co-op.

Castle Crashers is fun to almost everyone who plays it (hell if you turn the gore off, the game is even fun to any age)

Super Meat Boy

Alien Hominid.

Borderlands has split screen co-op through the entire game. Offers easy access to first person shooters as well as some light rpg elements. It is quite humorous and has it's own charm. I'm not sure if there is a demo out , but it is worth a try. My gf and I picked it up and although she enjoys it she doesn't play co-op with me because apparently she has motion sickness issues with split screen (but that happens with any game). And the loot gets better and the game difficulty scales based on the amount of people playing :)

Burnout Revenge is also very awesome :) Although not really co-op but the crash party option is very fun for two.

hmm. From a person with jumpy tastes as well I'll recommend some favorites. Might want to try a nice variety just to see how she reacts.

Castlevania (any of them)

Legend of Zelda(once again, any of them. Preferably one with better graphics. There is one Zelda ranging game that comes with some Wii controller thing and it is surprisingly fun to play with a friend)

Mario Karts

Chrono Chross- good plot, beautiful graphics, fun characters. You won't be able to do multiplayer but it always seems to be almost as fun to watch as to play, like a movie.

Mario Party 8- a bit little-kiddy but fun nonetheless

Super Mario Galaxy

Super Smash Bros Brawl

ok maybe I'm a bit over the top on Mario games but those are my suggestions.
