Ones piece is long and still ongoing. Has some moments of seriousness and fighting, some of comedy and some that carry the story. Other long ones are Naruto, Bleach, Reborn... Sure theres more may look for some others later.

I don't actually want to get into anything within the dragonball universe. I'm already getting my fill of that with Kai.

Also, GT? You're clearly mistaken, as no such thing ever happened. *twitch*

P.S. It's almost 300 episodes long, actually.
huh, never knew it was that long.

Anyway, I would also recommend Gundum Wing.
The other Gundum series are just posers, Wing is where its at.

And to add to your list above, I would add Ruroni Kenshin (probably spelled it wrong) to the "maybe" list.
Its long and was pretty good, I just didn't enjoy it as much as people said I would.

Full Metal Alchemist is an excellent series that comes to mind.

Personally I have to keep myself from screaming Hajime no Ippo as loud as I can. Yes, it is a boxing series, but that gives it a perfect reason to have training schedules and a constant stream of stronger opponents to fight without getting ridiculous.

Plus it has some of the better fights in anime history:

How can you say that? Have you even seen the original Mobile Suit Gundam series? Wing was a terrible copy of it. Besides, as hard as he tried Zechs never became as legendary as Char Aznable.

Bleach is good it's like DBz but a better story at times, at the start it's different but later on they fight in the air and becomes more like DBz

Soul Eater is good only 50ish eps tho
My HiMe series is good and the Mai Otome series is good to they are short but together are good
MAR is more lighter in the anime more kid like but has a lot of fighting and some of them are good
Hellsing is not long but it is good
Tenjho Tenge is good as well but not to long
Ranma 1/2 is good as well, very long and has is funny and has a ok fighting nothing like DBz more like Street Fighter which is great ^^

If i get the names of the others ima thinking about I will post em to if ya like

Haruhi was really fun, but it looks like you are looking for something action centric.

Fullmetal Alchemist is 52 episodes, and it's quite good. I'm not sure if you would consider that to be long running.

There's also Yu Yu Hakusho, but I don't think that's great. Then again, sorting-algorithm-of-evil-in-exponential-time animes don't appeal to me as much as short series.

I would also recommend Trigun, though it's not very long.

Allright, I went through my list some more...

Hunter X Hunter would be a good show, since it's lighthearted most of the time but still has a decent amount of action and good characters.

Get Backers has a very good first half, but the second one isn't worth it.

Vision of Escaflowne is a pure masterpiece. That every anime fan should watch at least at one point during their time as a geek. Although Hitomi can be quite annoying at times

Gintama is one of the best parody anime series out there, together with Yakitate! Japan. Both need some time to grow on you if you do watch them though. Especially Yakitate! Japan, since it's about a boy who is trying to create Japan's signature bread (seriously).

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi is one of the stronger shounen series out there, if you don't give it a try, you're missing out.

Hajime no Ippo, favorite anime, perfect fights. Nothing mindblowing, just straight forward and awesome

GaoGaiGar is one of the better robot anime I've seen.

The original Mobile Suit Gundam is all you need to watch if you ever plan to see a Gundam show. Though if you think it's too long, watch the movies.
Actually, just watch the movies. Everyone who is recommending Wing is doing so because they saw that one first. I saw that one first and almost stopped watching anime completely thanks to it.

Fist of the north star It is a ultra violent action anime. The old series has not aged well at all. It can be drawn very well then very crappy.{Mainly the first arc.] If you like action anime and are open minded you should like it.] Just remember the anime has been made in the mid 80's. The 86 movie on the other hand has aged very well.

You wa Shock!
Actually, it's become quite fun to watch because it ages badly.
I recommend Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star as well.

I knew I was missing one show on my list and that was it.

Oh, by long running I mean in the 200+ ep. range, but I'll definitely put those on my "to-watch" list.

Also, is the Cowboy Bebop movie worth checking out?
+200 episodes?

Most tend to not last that long, the ones that do are super popular shonen series that gather huge fanbases. Most of these anime are based on long running Shonen Jump favorites.

If you're looking for something like dragonball, you should try Bleach, One Piece, or Naruto. (The shonen three, as I call it.) They all have long running animes and are quite popular.

Though you should know that, like dragonball, series like Bleach, One Piece, or Naruto, have the same errant flaws. Long, drawn out fights, long drawn out plot, and Filler meant to draw things out. See a trend?

On another note, if you liked Cowboy Bebop (as if anybody could hate cowboy bebop), you should probably check out Samurai Champloo. Same director, but it's just as short at 26 episodes.

And remember when trying out any anime you see here, the shonen three, samurai champloo, or otherwise, it is unlikely you'll find something you'll enjoy as much as Cowboy Bebop. CB is one of the shining greats of modern anime.

If you were interested in another short one that you could watch in two days, I highly recommend Samurai Champloo.
Plus they have a new subbed version on Funimation, that follows the manga better. Also, Death Note!

Maybe Naruto (Try Shippuden, even though youll have no idea whats going on) and Bleach for some DBZ fighting and they each have a big amount of episodes.

I dunno about that. As good as CB was, the story seemed kind of disjointed and the ending wasn't really all that satisfying. Not to mention all the loose ends... And again, the only time I really laughed in the whole thing was when it said "See you, space samurai.", but I suppose it was never really a comedy.

Then again, I guess it's not the sort of thing you'd want to watch altogether.

Yay! Another Monster fan! I was beginning to think I was the only one...
On a related note, is this show not the greatest thing you have ever seen? Mmmmmmmmm?

Oh yeah, fo sho. OP this show doesn't really meet any of your criteria, but it DOES meet the criteria of "really really good."

Death Fucking Note!!!
I agree.

Although I'm not watching the anime, because I'm reading the manga, I still like it a lot. You can say I'm hooked on it xd

Oh, oh, and Great Teacher Onizuka. 43 episodes of awesomeness. Although I've heard that the manga is better, the store in my town that has manga sells volumes for 20 PLN each. With 6 (? think so) volumes, that's 120 PLN, that's roughly the cost of a new game like Warhammer 40K or Demigod or Prototype.

But hey, you can watch the episodes online, and I can watch them on a Polish network that always runs anime's after 9 pm.

...Am I the only one that refuses to read/watch One Piece because of the drawing style? It looks horrible in my opinion.
