As of late i have grown bored and want a deep RTS to sink my teeth into, but i want more depth than the "Harvest Reasource, build, kill" gameplay. I want an RTS in the Stronghold vein where you have to process somthing about 4 times before its of any use.
Any ideas?
I have already played galatic Civ and Total war before you mention those ;)

How about Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne?
I know they're not new and shiny, but that's the best RTS I've ever played. And the story is awesome to boot. I believe you'd be satisfied. :)
But that game will work for you only if you don't mind fantasy mixed in your RTS. :p

You would then probably like Dawn of war 2. It incorporates some rpg elements and focuses more on getting to know your units better and how to use their strengths and weaknesses

Hrmm, I'm not a regular to RTS's but I would recomend Warhammer 40k and its subsequent expansions, Rise of Nations Gold Edition, Warcraft and Starcraft, Age of Empires.

I'll let ya know if I think of any others.

Earth 2000 or something like that, it's modded like hell and it's freeware, You have to research lots of shit to do anything really.

dawn of war. honestly i cannot recommend this enough. its warhammer 40k, the fights look and sound epic, the teams are balanced and have many strategies for each (maybe not orks as much but ah well :p) has a sweet army creator to make your own clans within the factions and, to top it all off, has some of the most fast paced but in depth game play of any rts.

endwar looks good too XD

Ever try Saga? I bought a copy at Comic-Con when I went and so far it?s been pretty good, I?m more used to the simple Age of Empires 2 RTS games myself but if you want something deeper, I think saga has a free demo on their website.

It's probably not deep in terms of resource trees, but one of my all-time-favourite RTS games is Supreme Commander.

One of the biggest points i like about it is the scale. The maps are up to 81x81km in size, and while the biggest normal artillery can fire almost all the way across it, some normal tank will take half an eternity for the same way on its own.
The UI is very intuitive with easily editable patrol routes and such; you can even set air transportation routes, so your tanks will be carried to the battlezone automatically on self-defined routes after they leave the factory.
While games like WarCraft focus more and more on micro management, this game is truly about strategy.

[Edit:] There are two resources, energy and mass, which can only be gathered up to a certain point after which every new incoming energy or mass will be wasted. Building aditional storage is possible, but very expensive, so you'll want to spend your resources in a constant flow. Managing that well enough will take some time and experience.

If your looking for a deep RTS game i highly reccomend one of the Total War Series. I prefer the Medieval 2, but i also picked up Empire Total War and both of them are great. If you have a weekend free pop it in and play the grand campaign. From start to finish depending on how fast you play it could take you easily a weekend to complete a campiagn.

I was going to say Dawn of War, but it (along with every other RTS known to man) is pretty much "Harvest, build, kill".
