Taste is a subjective thing. I don't believe that anyone granted you the power to determine what is good taste or not. Yes, it's a public forum, but you could've looked at the title and thought "Huh. Death metal. Never did like that stuff. I'll not go on that thread." It's nice of you to endeavour to make us all feel inferior, though. Always nice.

Besides, what were you hoping to achieve? Everyone looking upon your opinion and suddenly changing their minds?

For someone telling me to 'deal with it', you sure didn't same to be able to handle the fact that people like stuff that you don't like.

Anyway, to stay OT with this post, most of the stuff I like has already been posted- Meshuggah, Behemoth, Opeth, Gojira, et al. Highly recommend those bands.

Well most of the bands have already been named here but there is one doom/death metal band called Swallow the Sun:

Pure awesomeness. It even tells about Twin Peaks.

Check out Son of Aurelius, a new tech/melodic death metal band from California. They the best new band I've heard for years.

It seems a lot of people don't know the difference between Death Metal and other sub genres. I personally don't like much Death Metal, next to none in fact but I do like Melodic Death Metal and some Progressive Death Metal. Anyway,
Sepultura- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3VJLi5vdTg Brazilian Death Metal band. I think.
Arch Enemy- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZUfUL3hPhk Melodic Death Metal band. Female vocalist too, she's very good.
It would also be worth your while to check out Slayer, they were a pretty huge influence on Death Metal as a whole from what I understand.

I recently discovered that death metal is pretty dang awesome, but I don't really know any good death metal bands.
Mercury.

That metal is very likely to cause death.

Uranium with the correct isotope in correct application can be EXTREMELY deadly.

(On topic: Dimmu Borgir)

OT: I've never been a fan of the migrane-inducing vocals that death metal attracts but I love some of the instrumentals these bands come up with

Awesome, I got a Sisko facepalm. And for a terrible science pun as well.

Aaronobst, you have made my day! :D

I'm in the same boat as you on Dimmu Borgir vocals. Always much preferred their instrumental stuff and frankly I only ever tolerate their screaming stuff because they seem to be having so much fun... and I just feel like an old-man spoil-sport asking for instrumental only.

I had a friend who was really into Death Metal, he seemed so happy I had a vague interest in Slipknot I didn't have the heart to tell him I couldn't stand all the vocals.

EDIT - Oh, I remember a band called "I killed the prom queen" or something like that. Not into death metal, but my sister was a year or so ago.
They're metalcore more than death; that's why your sister liked them :p Good bunch of blokes though. A mate of mine and I went to Kevin's place years ago and he bought his 7-stringed Ibanez. Was awesome.

I will reccomend Ulcerate. Very cool Death Metal band with a prog edge; sort of how I would imagine a group like Mastodon would do death metal.

They aren't signed to a major label but you can find tracks on their website or youtube. I am shamelessly plugging them because I work with the lead singer at his day job.
