Recommend me some Manga

A few weeks ago, I discovered Fullmetal Alchemist. And it was glorious. I was completely shocked at the quality of character development, underlying themes, the overall seriousness, and even thought it was pretty funny at times. This was more than I bargained for, since I'd barely even acknowledged manga's existence previously and just thought the concept was pretty interesting. I'm almost at the end of the series, and if there's more coming, I need to find something else to pass the time, and if it's over I need to go cry in a corner. Anyway, can anyone recommend me more manga series that have sort of the same tone as FMA? (Pretty much everything else at my library can be described as "fruity" at best.) Oh yeah, and because I don't feel like reading ahead and can't find an answer anywhere, can someone tell me if FMA is over?

Now I know this may sound bias but, I say Dragon Ball. The early ones are real funny and not just full of action. The story does get in depth and it's a really cool fantasy/sci-fi (sci-fi is for the Z portion) story.

There are some pretty bitchin mangas out there; you could go for Hellsing, Death Note, Vampire Hunter D, Ultimo, or Strawberry Panic

Battle Angel Alita or Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. Similar tones what with the gloomy setting and all, and rather brilliant storytelling I have to say. A good bit more gorey than the PG rated FMA though, so if you have a weak stomach, I'd recomend actually staying away from it.

Though, for something closer in theme, Psychic Academy is a good idea, or you could jump into the black hole (as I have before) and hit Negima hard and fast. again and again .. . and I'm done with that pun.

Not that much else out there that I've read or know about honestly, but BAA is about the best out there I think.

EDIT: oooh, strawberry panic . . . I forgot that one . . . *smirk* I REALLY enjoyed that particular manga.

If you can stomach some serious gore, I highly recommend Gantz.

Not quite like FMA, but good regardless.

It's not really similar to FMA, but you should read Lone Wolf and Cub. Don't ask any questions just do it. Go,go,go!

Try Monster or 20th Century Boys. Everything Naoki Urasawa touches is pretty much gold.

Its not over yet but its getting pretty damn close. I know this because the most recent chapter is called "The Final Battle".
OT: I recommend Negima. It starts out as a pretty generic ecchi manga that doesn't seem to have a plot but once it starts developing one it gets pretty damn good.

Mwahahawikipedia. As for your actual recommendations, I'll check them out, since I'm not too phased by gore. And have you read FMA or am I just a very naive child to think that there's no way in hell that it could be considered PG?

I can stomach some serious gore -evil grin-. I'll check out a synopsis of Gantz.

Ecchi -sad face-. I'll still check it out. And yeah, the Final Battle thing is what tipped me off about it ending soon. Glad I jumped on the FMA train at the sexiest possible time.

A mysterious black orb machine recruits dying people into death matches against aliens. Sounds kind of idiotic, but ends up being insanely cool. I haven't read it since the Nurarihyon arc, but it has great action and character development. It's tremendously violent though, and its probably the least work safe non h-manga ever.

Edit: Negima is extremely ecchi, but I always found it to be fairly good hearted. I've never been a fan of ecchi because I think it's sleazy, but Negima has enough self-awareness and humor to make up for the constant nudity.

FMA ends in the July issue.

Gantz sounds deliciously awesome, I'll look into it more. As for Negima, I have decided I'm avoiding ecchi because I do not enjoy the boy love.

Sgt. Frog is my favorite. Maybe because it was my first manga that I ever got into, but it's still really good.
