Deftones - Excellent alt metal - The metal parts are good, but what really makes their music are the melodic bits.
Very much agree. Saw them live earlier this year, and they were fantastic

Yeah. It also helps that they're one of the few metal bands to have successfully fused the genre with New Wave and Dream Pop/Shoegaze, both of which I love

Yes, yes, another "Recommend me" thread...

I've tired my extensive collection of music and I need some different stuff. I like almost anything, but some of my favourite bands include Tool, Radiohead, The Beatles, Wu-Tang Clan, Parkway Drive, Metallica, Anberlin, At The Drive-In, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Pendulum, Netsky, deadmau5 and Nirvana. Basically anything that's good, no matter what genre or style. I really enjoy obscure covers and remixes as well, so those would be much appreciated.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen :)
Check out Skinny Puppy if you haven't already, also try Rapeman, Shellac, Wire, Joy Division, Aphex Twin, Dinosaur Jr., The Pixies, Front Line Assembly, Scratch Acid, The Jesus Lizard, A Tribe Called Quest, Television, Fugazi, or Husker Du. All very good bands. If you like Shellac and Rapeman and you have an open mind and aren't easily offended check out Big Black.

Well if you're willing to listen to J-rock, I'd recommend The Pillows.

Can someone please teach me how to embed youtube videos?
It looks like so:

[ youtube=<jumble of text after = sign in URL> ]

Only without the spaces. If you quote my previous post, you should see how it's done.

THANKYOU SO MUCH

Good list. As an immediate thought, add Big Black, classic New Order and the Minutemen as well.

Husker Du and the Pixies are two of my favourite bands of all time, been listening to them for years.

This list is off the top of my head stuff, just a bunch of artists I love and would recommend to the OP if he's not bound by genre:

Beach Boys, Love, LCD Soundsystem, Outkast/Big Boi, Isaac Hayes, Bobby Womack, Isley Brothers, Neon Indian, Washed Out, Memory Tapes, Here We Go Magic, Okkervil River, Mountain Goats, Grizzly Bear, Cut Copy, Holy Fuck, Yeasayer, CunninLynguists, You Am I, Teen Daze, De La Soul, Sufjan Stevens, My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse, Slowdive, Kitchens of Distinction, Laura Nyro, Frank Sinatra, Gene Krupa, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Artie Shaw, The Antlers, Passion Pit, Bear in Heaven, Curtis Mayfield... this is getting long but I hope you can find something you like in here.

Joe Satriani is a guitar god. He mentored Kirk Hammett along with many other awesome guitarists.

And his experience shows, his songs will blow you away the first time you hear them.

Joe Satriani is indeed a guitar god. He is one of my main guitar influences along with Steve Vai and Andy Mckee and I aspire to be as good as guitar as them one day although it will probably never happen.
Never give up, mate!

Our music taste actually sounds quite a bit alike.

I recommend you Lostprophets and The Boxer Rebellion.

Here Come the Mummies is a great band.
(Don't get them confused with The Mummies. The Mummies were a garage punk band from the 90's, whereas Here Come the Mummies are a more recent Funk/R&B band)

Credence Clearwater is generally awesome, if you want something from around the Vietnam war era.
For Blues music, I suggest Dinah Washington.
Classical, I'm fond of The Planets Suite by Holst.
There is a lot of really excellent videogame music out there, such as the Mass Effect soundtracks and the Red Dead Redemption sound track.
Also Beats Antique, they are excellent, it's hard to define their genre, they have techno elements, mixed with circus themes or south asian and middle eastern themes. One particularly strange song has adorable animal noises mixed to make the whole song.
I don't know whether you'll enjoy these genres, but they are pretty good.

Also, I cannot believe that my captcha is "hard and fast", and it is bouncing up and down.
