For multiplayer I'd reccomend the free Half-Life 2 mod Insugency. Think modern war game with realism up the ass.
Eg. No crosshair, no ammo meter (just count of spare mags), 2 shots from a rifle is sometimes lethal, 3 is always lethal.

I got the closest thing to a heart attack I ever had whilst playing this.

Or you can play GalCivII, the AI are extremly intelligent.
I second the GalCivII remark. The AI is some of the most intelligent (and sadistic) AI I have ever encountered in a turnbased game. I sometimes get chewed up even on the lower difficulty settings.
Yeah, I cannot play normal, only the one below that. On normal I just get the shit kicked out of me. I've learned that it's a good idea to befriend the Drengin early on, to win an Alliance victory. Just keep on pumping money and technology into them and they will keep on fighting.

The amazing thing I find about the AI is just that it's smart, doesn't "cheat"! I also find the same thing about the AI in Sins of a Solar Empire, which is why there isn't a huge online community, because people are enjoying getting their asses handed to them fairly by a smart AI. Canada did something right when that studio was first opened.
I got a little burned out on Sins of a Solar Empire, but that was due to some repetative gameplay elements (and one particular friend wanting to play over LAN every time we hung out). I hear that the expansion adds some fresh new content as well as some new gameplay mechanics, so I get the feeling I will be dusting off my copy fairly soon. :)

DMC3 is a piece of piss compared to ninja gaiden. the second one is fairly tricky, but nothing compared to the original, which is shit hard for almost all of the game. and if you get the "black" or "sigma" versions of the original, you get a nice little mission mode which gets icreasingly ridiculous in difficulty. as my friend said to me on buying the game, you have to be a true ninja to complete it!

I have the mini-expansion. It's an amazing amount of fun! It adds just enough to really change the gameplay. You can really go out and attack without too much fear of your planet's defences. It also adds a whole new strategy in winning a match. It basically flips your strategies that you know upside down. Turrets have become improved, scouts have become EXTREMLY important and you can have a starbase. Those badasses can do a lot of damage!

It really is worth dusting off your copy and paying about $10 for the mini-expansion. Considering what you're getting out of it, it's basically a steal, but we're the ones stealing!!!
That sounds like a great idea to me. I think I will do that. :D

Try DDR....with no legs.

I have to agree with the people who are saying STALKER I got my ass raped repeatedly by a couple of shitty Conscripts early on just holding a checkpoint it took me like a thousand tries till I got around it. Of course the bad part is you sometimes get cocky like I went into this lab with all this whacky shit going on so I felt pretty badass after defeating the monsters in there and walking out but I wasn't paying much attention when the Spetsnaz team that had fast roped into the compound put a bullet through my head as I rounded the corner.

You say you got a PSP? play Killzone Liberation, that game can be a *****, oh and don't overlook the Metal Slug Anthology. Play some Contra games, especially Super C and Contra 3 those two are awesome and hard. Any of the original mega man games are rather challenging and don't skip on the Ninja Gaiden...ANY OF THEM...

Almost anything involving Touhou. If you don't dig bullet hell games, there's MegaMari...imagine Mega Man, but harder. More enemies and attacks that often take up the entire screen. It helps that you have a significantly smaller hit box, but it's still a pain.

Godhand is way up there. Normal is no cakewalk, and Hard will rape you.

The Ooze on Sega Genesis is legendary for its difficulty. Few people can ever get through it without cheating...including me. ):

Valkyrie Profile 2 and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne are the two hardest RPGs I've ever played...but I've beaten them both and I love them. Good titles.

EDIT: Oh! Gotta throw in Cave Story! It's not too hard if you play it normally...but the minimal items runs are BRUTAL (Only getting the items you either need or you are forced to get. No Life Capsules means you gotta get through it with a maximum of 3 HP instead of 55...meaning, you'll get OHK'd every hit.) Cave Story's Ballos (Final boss) with minimal items might be the hardest videogame challenge I've ever faced. Just remember that almost any game can be frustratingly hard if you intentionally limit yourself.
