thats just stupid...this is the kind of thing that gives my religion a bad name.
No kidding. I'm a Christian and I would have nothing to do with her.

She is betraying her religion, probably messing up her son by forcing the religion on her (being a Christian should be a personal choice), and pissing off a whole school district.

She's not wrong due to her religion. She's wrong because she is fucking retarded.
Nothing wrong with doing something out of religios belief, so long as it doesn't cause problems for other people.

I don't quite get where you see that this passage applies only to the ten commandments. It dosn't say that it says "The Law" that means the books of law that Moses dictated from God, why do you assume that he means the ten commandments? i guess that you interpreted it. so here's another bible quote.

"Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21)

Also which religious organistions are you talking about? The Catholic Church? You mean the church that persecuted and killed hundreds of scientists because they dared say that the earth was not the center of the universe? Yes Isaac Newton was a christian but did his christianity lead to him be a great scientist? No his intelligence did.
I don't think anyone ever claimed that Newton's faith had anything to do with his discoveries.

As far as the Catholic Church goes, it's what Pimppeter2 said: the Church (and religious organizations in general) were the only literate/scientifically inclined groups in the Dark Ages. Unfortunately a later (mismanaged) version of the Catholic Church did do the stuff you mentioned, but that was a long time ago: the Church actually supports most scientific research these days unless it does something like killing embryos.

And that passage is just saying prophecies (as in, predictions of the future) were given to humanity by God.

The problem is, you're not just trying to convince -her- to STFU (not likely) but you're -really- trying to convince the powers that be who have to put up with her crap that she's disrespecting your religious choices with her holier-than-thou censorship.

So, getting violent or confrontational will only justify them pulling the plug on materials you enjoy just to end the debate; however, by reminding them that her rights are not being touched in any way, and that if they capitulate your religious freedoms -are-, they have the ammunition necessary to take the neutral stance dictated to a government organization by the laws of your country.

Regardless, religion isn't the problem here. It's the poisonous belief that fundamentalists should have any right to dictate doctrine to moderates or even non-believers. Fighting against this abuse of religion is exactly what 'Freedom of Religion' is meant to do; that one's soul (if it exists) is apportioned as the owner of that soul sees fit.

Fundamentalists should not be allowed to attack others based on belief or religion. It's based on a belief that believers are inherently better than non-believers, and should be apportioned temporal power in order to guide the lesser individuals. Fascism, by definition.

This is why it is important for -believers- in a faith to fight against fundamentalism as much as non-believers... because these fundamentalists not only misrepresent your religion and use your messages of love and peace to preach hate and oppression, but they also will hit you with it when you're not 'orthodox' enough.

And it doesn't matter if that religion is Christianity, Islam, atheism, Shinto, or even Church of the Subgenius. Fundies are not interested in people's rights, freedoms, or even their opinions. They hold an opinion that you are less than them, and that you are not equal. In otherwords, they practice a form of bigotry that they can use 'freedom of religion' to hide behind.

That's ridiculous, though at my school we don't have that, freedom of speech is good, but forcing them on other people, let alone a school isn't. she wants her child not to then move them, not the earth.

You should tell her god wants her to throw herself under a truck. I dont mind religions but when its there way or the highway is when they just annoy me.

Just tell her the devil is in the bible or burn fish guts to satisfy her*reference*

There are two honourable options here:

1. Ignore her and carry on, only get involved if your rights become infringed.

2. Kill her, her family and a number of random bystanders in a spectacularly bloody and destructive fashion, to reinforce your point that all actions have consequences, leaving their house ablaze and a trail of corpses in your wake.

Beat the tar out of her if things get out of hand. Or just slap her across the face and tell her to bugger off.

My suggestion would be to write into your school (Or perhaps get your parents to do it? Or both?) Showing that it is only a minority that want these banned, and the majority are happy to leave them there. Either get others to do the same, or to sign your letter, further showing that the majority are happy and want to keep it. Assuming this is done with a decent letter, well written, then the school would be stupid to get rid of it and her arguments will have no effect.

Evil people will do Evil things, getting a good person to do Evil things, now that takes religion.
?With or without religion,
you would have good people doing good things
and evil people doing evil things.
But for good people to do evil things,
that takes religion.?

So that's where it comes from, I always just figured it was something my grandfather use to say
No problem good sir.

this is why i dont like freedom of speech it turns people into self intitled retards that can lie and make everyone elses life harder without anyone being able to shut them up

if i were you i would take my paintball gun and paintball the shit out of her house really like load 300 rounds into that bitchs house

(here comes the sarcasm)
then i would free her son from his shackels

then i would begin systematically slashing her tires stealing things from her and over all trying to ruin her life like she is for many people

Of course she's an idiot, and should be opposed on principle, but comic books and games? We never had those in school (well, a few educational games) "back in my day". I guess a lot can change in 10 years! Assuming she doesn't succeed in expanding her crusade to include, y'know, serious literature and stuff, then what's the big deal? Besides, of course, the principle of the thing and censorship is bad and all that.

(didn't read the 8 pages of replies.. someone has probably already made my point for me.. oh well, so it goes)

Benedict, a Nazi? That's a new one though. People keep getting more creative.

Actually, it's an old one. It came up when he was being nominated, he was a former Hitler Youth.

And no, the church doesn't do anything atrocious like the crusades anymore: they just tell AID's-ridden africans to not use condoms, 50 years ago they raised no objection to the Holocaust(The Official Church, NOT individual catholics, I know very well that many did), block support to stem-cell research that can potentially cure diseases, and hid many priests from THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT when THEY WERE FUCKING LITTLE KIDS.

You're right, they don't do horrible acts like the crusades anymore.
