When it comes to names, I either make up names or take japanese words. Two examples are: In one story I made up I named the main character Vereni Stycul. It doesn't mean anything; It's like a random word. And then in another story, Many of my characters were named after the color they were based on, like how the Red character was named "Akai," which is japanese for "Red."

As for last names, I do the same; either make it up or go to japanese words. I always make some connection to the character when choosing the name, such as the colors I mentioned, what the character likes, what position they play in the story, etc. (You can choose another language, like french or spanish)

You can also mix up the letters of a word and remove or add letters to make it into a name. Like let's suppose the character likes flowers:

Flower
Rewol F.

(Okay, so it's just "Flower" backwards...)
Hope I helped.
Wow. My strategy for naming my characters has changed lot. I barely use Japanese names anymore, or just make the names up. Now I use more commonly heard names in the states, like Lucas Robinson.

From an ever popular, (but not quite as common anymore), depression thread -

I'm recovered for now. I think I got into it after the realisation that nothing really matters. But I got out of it by accepting nothing really matters. And then I just started to enjoy things for what they were.

Since then I've taken an interest in politics to see how the world is influenced, and I read through Darwin's Origin of the Species to discover how little control we really have over who we are. It has helped me become more connected to the world that I am a part of, and the history I am subject to. It was a difficult transition that took place over many years, but now I'm really quite happy. And my happiness is now grounded in the realities of life, and not some misguided things I learned as a child. Or some of the mindless distraction you?ll find in the narratives of some Hollywood films and television. The consequence is that I can't stand people who were like me before I woke up, but I try not to judge them, I just avoid them. I?ve changed my interests. Now seek out things that speak to who I am, not who I thought I was.

What I found was bothering me when I was depressed was that the people around me, and those who were close to me, didn't really know me. So I started talking to them and expressing my feelings and thoughts more. But most of my friends (and all of my family) were no help at all. But there were a couple, who wanted to listen, and were generally interested. They don't know what I went through, but knowing there's someone who understands how and why I sometimes feel the way I do, really helps me. They look out for me when I?m down, without trying to ?cheer me up?, they?re just there for me.

Good luck with it, and give it time, it will pass if you can communicate and learn to understand yourself. Don't let things go round inside your head without expressing them, that always gets me down. Learn to express what you're really feeling. Not just "I'm depressed" but try to work out what is it that is really bothering you. It may be something small and insignificant, but it's clearly not if this is the effect it's having on you. It may be something larger, feeling like something overwhelming. Then break it down into smaller problems. Face it, examine it, and you will come to understand it. It's hard to do when you're younger, because you're not fully aware of all the influences that are affecting your life, but keep at it.
Still relevant I suppose, but feels a world away from me now (it was 4 years ago).

Watching every encounter with the G-Man:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smkF9T2ECRs

I believe that he is or at least was a man.

He's seen conversing with a Black Mesa Scientist and in Opposing Forces, with a Commando.
He confiscated Gordan's weapons because "they were government property, after all"
This tells me that he works or worked for the Government.

Xen is the "border world" ...as in between Earth and What?

He says he likes people that survive impossible odds "if for no other reason than it reminds him of himself"

I believe the G-man was an agent for the government that somehow came into contact with an extraterrestrial/extra dimensional force ("employers") and somehow became a representative of that force.
In response to what the G-Man from Half-Life is.

I'd have to go with my Furret from Crystal, especially if she gets the perks I do.

Semi-sentient animals with superpowers make the best companions. :D
In a thread about being immortal, seeing humanity as it began, and choosing a companion from a video game to bring with you on the journey.

Still wouldn't change my answer.

"I'm really the only one in all six of my classes who knows much about it. Personally, it wasn't noble. We were really going for the Soviet Union by proxy there. It's one of those rough spots we prefer to shy away from."

Talking about the Vietnam war and how its taught in American schools.

I?ve always been fascinated with browser based games. They?re something I could poke at between projects, or tab between when I was supposed to be doing work or listening to a lecture in college. Having an engaging multiplayer game that you could play 5 minutes at a time helped me tide over my gaming addiction when I really didn?t have the time to play any game seriously? Or so I thought.

I?m not talking about the Hyperiums [http://games.yahoo.com/] a few years ago.

I started out with my little planet fiddling around once or twice a day. Before long, I?m involved in grand battles of dozens of players at once. Forming treaties over IRC, writing programs to analyze production numbers, cutting off supply lines, while systematically turning my enemy?s planets into black holes. All while screaming about how 3 hours was too quick for a battle to resolve.

And now, they want to make multiplayer RPGs easy to make.
I think this was from one of the early iterations of the site where we first added comment threads to articles. It was originally stored using Wordpress-like (The name escapes me at the moment) blog software that was later ported to the current forum system.

Holy crap 2005. :D
