There was even a greek myth about it, though I forget the names of all involved, sculptor created his perfect woman and fell in love with it and the gods made her live, but she was incapable of love? I think that's how it went.
Omg thanks for reading me of Pygmalion and Ovides metamorphosis :) *scurries to library to reread an old classic*

The myth has been retold many times and varies depending on author though, the one im most familiar with is Ovides version which doesnt have the "incapable of love" part, the sculptor ends up having a kid with the ivory woman iirc. Well could be wrong, its been a long time since read myth. But yeh name of myth is Pygmalion.

Who exactly are these people you've read/ heard saying this?

I was going to stay out of this, but a thought does occur to me. In the past, and quite possibly in the not too distant future, I've shuffled my own deck while reading pornographic fictional stories one-handed.

Where do zero-D girls feature in this bullshit hierarchy of pornography? :p

Something which has been amusing me lately. Guys saying that they prefer 2D girls to their 3D counterparts. Now I'm not having a go, I don't mind that you feel that way, I just want to know why some people consider real life girls pig disgusting. Of course you have to deal with all the smells and fluids of a real girl no matter how much perfume they use, whereas it's completely optional with 2D girls whether or not you want to imagine they have any body fluids or unpleasant smells.

Maybe part of the problem is holding the ideal girl on a pedestal as a completely sanitary, angelic creature who does not poop, does not breathe, does not have any of the human bodily functions that a male has. Are there any more reasons?
Now that I think about it, I don't think I ever heard anyone say this. So if you don't mind

Anyway, it's not about fantasies, you can fantasize about whatever you want, it's about choosing something that's not real over something that's real. Presumably anyone who'd choose the image on the right are the kind of people who'd rather f*ck a Japanese love pillow instead of a real live flesh and blood woman. In which case they aren't going to be adding to the gene pool regardless and thus they fail at natural selection which I believe was the point the whole demotivator was trying to make. IDK, I didn't make the bloody thing, I just agreed with what I thought it was trying to say.

Well, I did make it, and that is pretty much exactly what I meant. It was also not meant to be taken entirely seriously, it's a demotivator for fuck sake, some people doth protest too much, methinks.

I suspect I'd rather be considered ugly by these people, than have them as my boyfriend X3. They don't sound like very capable partners at all, and I'm kinda picky to begin with! Not that I deserve to be picky, I'm no supermodel or anything, but I am damnit!

The only way that the 2D image of a girl is better than a real one would be at all true is if you wanted the sum of your interactions to be to stare blankly at her. I'm given to understand that real life ones take offense to that if you do it for too long.
Wuh... That was a creepy thing to think about XD.
That was the idea, because I'm pretty sure these guys who venerate 2D girls are only able to stare at them. Unless they get those creepy body pillows and dammit brain STOP THAT!

Don't tell that to me, tell that to Revnak and whoever else it was who was that was getting up my ass about it. Yeesh! I only posted that because I thought is was funny and was very appropriate for this thread. I certainly didn't expect people to get up my ass about it.

Well, we are in the same timezone (Germany) so I was already spaced out when you answered ;)

I already looked into that forum. While some of the people are 'understandable' frustrated they at least don't project their problems on others... And then there is the funny stuff. People who try to explain how their situation is the fault of women with psychology. It made my evening (read some of it aloud to friends in TS).
There is also the more tame Love-Shy forum, but that one is more geared towards actual dating advice. I felt real awkward reading it though, but not in a "I feel inferior"-kind of way, if you get what I mean.

On-topic (for once): I will just state here that I have little to no problem with someone having a preference for drawn wo/men over real life wo/men. Their sexuality, their preference, none of my business, etc.

Okay i did read that correctly...

SO there are people out there that prefer 2-D fictional girls to a real girl? >_>

OH internet you never fail to surprise me!
This was pretty much my reaction as well. I had to do a double take to figure out if I'd missed a key word.

OT: Whatever floats your boat I guess...

I made a post in this thread to stop people posting stuff like this waaaay back on page 2.

In future, I suggest you look through threads a bit more before posting.
It really just says that they prefer to fantasize over 2D girls, not that 3D girls are "pig disgusting"

Hmmm. I didn't consider that...
You may be right.

That doesn't detract from the fact that many people do feel a genuine kinship with these characters and an understanding for them, despite the lacking mutuality of that sentiment.

Is it a 'truly' a 'relationship'? I suppose not. Is it 'truly' love? Maybe, albeit one-sided.
For a given defintion of love. When most of us are talking about romantic love, we aren't talking about being "hot under the collar" and lusting after someone. We are talking about being in a sustained relationship with someone, of having to deal with their flaws, of seeing their dirty clothing on the floor or whatever.

Thus to talk about romantic love when it is completely devoid of any capactiy of being returned, rejected or even aware is silly.

I would much prefer the term infatuation, seems more apt to describe the situation.

That's true.
I guess the OP was using a bit too much hyperbole.

But yeah, there are definitely examples of this 2D preference on this site.
Well I don't see anything wrong with that, I mean if you like 2D porn what's wrong with that? The OP is implying that some people find IRL girls to be disgusting and that's where I have an issue with him.

Damn you! Damn you to hell! *shakes fist* I had let myself believe that those pillows were to them what a plushie is to me... My happy illusion has been shattered.

I was just letting you know you were right. I think it hits a bit of sore spot for some people, I know technically the quote "methinks etc etc" doesn't refer to that but that was basically what I meant.

And I appreciate that. I'm guessing those who were getting up my ass are the type of people who can't see the forest for the trees.

After living with quite possibly the rudest & crudest girl on the planet for the past 3 years, I can still say that the real thing is so much better that they can't be compared. I would love to see the look on the face of anyone that thinks a 2D girl is better when a the real thing walks up to them and says "Does this look infected?"
Great avatar. Yeah got nothing else to add.

I guess that depends entirely on what you do with your plushies, but that's probably none of my business.

And of course I am referring to them cuddling with the pillows in an entirely non-sexual way, I mean what else could they possibly do with them?

Nobody answer that.
