Drinking prevents you from maintaining a level head, drugs do the same. you can't legally sign a contract under the influence of either, i'm not writing off what he said because beating a woman is an unforgivable act to commit or to even think about. but while under the influence stupid things can and often do come out. so even though everyone is against him RDJ is giving him a hand to get back on his feet. i don't think its fair to judge a man completely on his mistakes (however many) he may well be an asshole but quite possibly Any actor could/can be one, they just may not have had phone conversations recorded. i'm willing to give the guy a chance.

Wait, so what did Mel Gibson do wrong? Why does he need forgiving? I mean yeah he's a terrible actor but thats commonplace in Hollywood isn't it?
He got drunk and was pulled over by the police a few years back. During this he started making anti-Semantic comments. Also, there have been numerous phone conversations with his estranged girlfriend that she recorded. I believe in one he told her "If you get raped by a pack of N-----s, it will be your fault." And that was just a small excerpt.

"Forgive"? Why? Mel Gibson hasn't done anything to hurt me, so why should he need me to forgive him?

He's just a crazy bastard who has said some racist stuff. There have been so many of those before, and there will continue to be. It's nice to see RDJ sticking up for his friend, but why were people even hating him in the first place? 'Cause he's nuts? That's no reason to hate someone.

the guy is just another human being with problems, but, with problems in the open that everyone sees, I think he has a lot of talent and a lot to offer as an actor/director/whatever.

So what I guess I'm saying is, go on Mel, entertain us with your talents, just not the ones that make you look like an ass hat.

Mel Gibson does not owe us a single apology. Mad Max, Braveheart...

Yeah.

Meanwhile, many of these insane as hell people would defend Roman Polanski and condemn Mel. The hypocrisy of such things astounds me.

Sorry, even if we forgive Mel, he's still too close for comfort to his Catholic Fascist of a father.

He's not nuts. I don't have a problem with people that are nuts. They are often very endearing individuals.

Mel Gibson is a wife-beating bigot. There's not being nutty, it's being disgusting.

Calling him nuts is an excuse.

Here's the thing: both Robert and Mel have had shady and hard pasts, however in my eyes, Robert has turned himself around and isn't an asshole. Mel hasn't shown that he's anything but.

To be fair, a "******" is not just a black person, but an ignorant, evil hearted, hate filled, society blaming, racist black person. And when you look at Jewish theology and Christian theology there are great differences. Jews emphasize their culture and dogma. Christians merely ask people to love God and His Son. Major difference in belief system there. If people can be mad at one religion for wanting to influence the world then why disclude others just because they haven't been as widespread throughout history? Does the amount of negativity for generations really matter in this case?

Seriously. People need to get off the guys nuts.

Meanwhile, people still defend Roman Polanski...and Mel has to fight for his career.

Wait, since when did everyone have a problem with Mel Gibson? I must have missed a memo, I certainly don't.

I wasn't aware that Chris Rock's definition has become the official meaning of the term. Sure, it might be a good way to go, but as far as the general public is concerned, it's still just a derogatory term towards black people, not what you'd like it to be.

I don't know who Robert is
Iron man >.> Sherlock Holmes?

I think more people know him as Tony Stark than Robert Downey jr.

Credit to Tony :p
Mel... well if he manages to improve and stop being an alcoholic then maybe he deserved it. Its not his fault for being an alcoholic... and thats coming from me... with my life being ruined, depression, suicidal thoughts at the age of 17 thanks to my drunken dad...

...dunno why that came up from my mind but I'll leave it there xD

It's nice to see that Downey Jr wants to help a friend who helped him. But Mel Gibson is probably still a jerk. You can sort-of blame his father for that - he raised him to have warped beliefs. Those sorts of beliefs never really go away either. I wouldn't be surprised if Mel Gibson still secretly harbours a grudge against Jews. Contrary to popular belief, being drunk doesn't make you say things you don't believe - being drunk makes you say things you DO believe but know to keep to yourself.

Ever since he said "Fucking Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." back in 2006 and this phone call he made to his ex girlfriend and mother of 8 more recently:

And that's just part one

Robert Downey Junior is a man of his word and a great person, unfortunately it doesn't seem like Mel Gibson is as so much.

It also isn't the definition that fits in context. It's a clear use of "scary black men gon' get you", which is plenty racist without the slur. Not to mention the whole subtext of "it's your fault for being raped".
