I have an idea.

How about we stop all this "Rap is shit" "NO RAP IS GOOD!" "ROCK IS BAD" "NO ROCK IS GOOD" bullshit.

It's getting fucking annoying.

All this thread is doing is attempting, like the other 15 million threads like this, to start a flame war between rockers like myself and rappers like the OP.

I'll just say it like this:

Listen to whatever music fits you. Whether it be Soulja Boi, Disturbed, As Blood Runs Black, Taylor Swift, Darude, Sum 41, Foo Fighters, Toby Keith, August Burns Red, Lil Wayne. It doesn't fucking matter what other people think. I listen to music for the sound. I am drummer, I love music with drums, that's just the way I feel. I'm also depressed about 98% of the time I am awake, so I don't wanna hear songs about perfect fucking relationships. I love Metal, rock, alternative, and some rap. So what? I will dislike music because it doesn't relate to me, and if you don't like my opinion, then go kill yourself because I don't care. It's my life, I will listen to whatever I please.

The end.
I actually think that this is quite a good conversational thread. You, trying to end it via one angst-ridden post, just makes it even better.

You're entitled to your opinion as everyone else is entitled to theirs but what gives you the right to shut everyone else down whilst voicing your own opinion at the same time? That's blatantly immature and selfish.

Also - admitting your depression? Is that a cry for help or do you think that makes you sound cool and edgy?
If you're seeking attention then that's really sad. Depression's a serious thing buddy and I've lost mates to it.
On the flipside, If you're honestly depressed then seek medical or psychological help instead of going around and dropping bombs in forums.

As for the original topic at hand- I'm a massive fan of Thrice, Opeth, Iron Maiden, NIN, Arcade Fire, UNKLE, Devin Townsend, Queen, The Doors.
I wont post youtube clips of all of them seeing as everyone probably knows most of them anyway.

In the vein hope that someone does take interest though, here's some Thrice [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuUkPz7sZw]. They're post-hardcore, rocky, experimental and probably the perfect example of a band that grows and changes over time.

I also 100% agree that there is a lot of amazing hip-hop//rap out there (Hermitude, RJD2, UNKLE). Though I don't 'click' with a lot of the stuff that gets airtime I can totally understand the appeal of it to younger generations, same with dance music (I still listen to Paul Oakenfold and Armin Van Buuren quite frequently) and pop music.

Your right, Limp Bizkit is a great band.
Lies and nonsense! Anyway, I have a question for you; Did you used to be into pyrotechnics? I remember a guy who went by your name on some other forums, thought it might be you.

OT: Thank god we have Triple J in Australia, which plays only good music. That includes some rap/hiphop aswell as a lot of rock of some description. It's the shiznit.
Eurghhh I remember when Triple J used to be good :(

I'm done... Fuck this... I don't know why I even bother... It just gets to me, really fast, when music isn't seen as the incredible beauty it is...
Let me just say this: don't assume people who see the literary side of a song enhancing the instrumental side are any less capable of seeing something as incredibly beautiful in an instrumental as you are. I never said anything that could be interpreted as 'If someone can't enjoy music, without great lyrics, then apparently they do not feel music the correct way.': I was talking about *songs* not *tunes*: you confused me talking about only songs as if I was talking about all of music.
No, it has nothing to do with what you said. From my perspective, it would appear that people only care about lyrics. I know too few people who really listen to the music, and not just concentrate on the lyrics.

You both can go suck elephant dick.
Nice, what are you like 13?
Reported and moving on.
Wow, that was a dick move. Please tell me why you felt the need to do that.
You've just reinforced my reason even further by asking me why.
You also seem to be fixated on dicks, perhaps you should address that.

Sorry for ringing in but am I getting this right...
You feel that instrumental music is far more credible than music with lyrics?

Well, 'Tron, I must say you make an entirely valid point in your analysis. However, I must ask that you correct the misspelling in your title, though I feel that you lack depth to your analysis. Still, one must ask: Why do inferior musicans seem to prosper?
Inferior musicians prosper because they pander to the biggest possible audience in order to sell as much as possible.

The most beautiful music in the world is made by people who put the integrity of their work above the monetary gains.

No, it's just that I don't like it when people refer to music, yet all their arguments are lyrically based. Lyrics and music are NOT the same, they coexist in songs, but they aren't the same.

Almost every song I listen to has lyrics, and it is fine, since the vocal is a instrument, and it needs some words to make use of, but I don't care about the purpose of the lyrics, hidden meanings and such.

I am in to music. I really, really, really like music. Although I can agree on that lyrics in a particular song are great, it doesn't do much for me, since I'm not so in to lyrics.

Music and lyrics are separate styles of art.

I like the...uhh, melodies and instruments used in rock and metal. I also absolutely fuckin' love System of a Down, one of my favorite bands of all time.

I do like some rap songs, but mostly because of "the beat".

Hmmm yeah, I see where you're coming from but like you said - Vocals are an instrument and commenting on lyrics is just like someone commenting on a sweeping pattern of the guitarist or a drum-fill.

That being said though, lyrics can be powerful but shouldn't be relied upon.
This is where I don't see credibility in a lot of rap which is usually lo-fi backing tracks with a lot of lyrical prowess. When put into perspective it's like having an amazing guitar solo that's been accompanied by some guy banging on a trashcan in an alleyway. Not to say there aren't rappers who are musical genius (Take Dr. Dre for example - producers like him use incredible backing tracks and record most samples themselves from scratch).

Well that's my 2 cents at least ^_^

I agree with your statement. (not on Dr. Dre, since I don't have a clue who it is T_t)
