I actually think that this is quite a good conversational thread. You, trying to end it via one angst-ridden post, just makes it even better.xChevelle24 said:I have an idea.
How about we stop all this "Rap is shit" "NO RAP IS GOOD!" "ROCK IS BAD" "NO ROCK IS GOOD" bullshit.
It's getting fucking annoying.
All this thread is doing is attempting, like the other 15 million threads like this, to start a flame war between rockers like myself and rappers like the OP.
I'll just say it like this:
Listen to whatever music fits you. Whether it be Soulja Boi, Disturbed, As Blood Runs Black, Taylor Swift, Darude, Sum 41, Foo Fighters, Toby Keith, August Burns Red, Lil Wayne. It doesn't fucking matter what other people think. I listen to music for the sound. I am drummer, I love music with drums, that's just the way I feel. I'm also depressed about 98% of the time I am awake, so I don't wanna hear songs about perfect fucking relationships. I love Metal, rock, alternative, and some rap. So what? I will dislike music because it doesn't relate to me, and if you don't like my opinion, then go kill yourself because I don't care. It's my life, I will listen to whatever I please.
The end.
You're entitled to your opinion as everyone else is entitled to theirs but what gives you the right to shut everyone else down whilst voicing your own opinion at the same time? That's blatantly immature and selfish.
Also - admitting your depression? Is that a cry for help or do you think that makes you sound cool and edgy?
If you're seeking attention then that's really sad. Depression's a serious thing buddy and I've lost mates to it.
On the flipside, If you're honestly depressed then seek medical or psychological help instead of going around and dropping bombs in forums.
As for the original topic at hand- I'm a massive fan of Thrice, Opeth, Iron Maiden, NIN, Arcade Fire, UNKLE, Devin Townsend, Queen, The Doors.
I wont post youtube clips of all of them seeing as everyone probably knows most of them anyway.
In the vein hope that someone does take interest though, here's some Thrice [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuUkPz7sZw]. They're post-hardcore, rocky, experimental and probably the perfect example of a band that grows and changes over time.
I also 100% agree that there is a lot of amazing hip-hop//rap out there (Hermitude, RJD2, UNKLE). Though I don't 'click' with a lot of the stuff that gets airtime I can totally understand the appeal of it to younger generations, same with dance music (I still listen to Paul Oakenfold and Armin Van Buuren quite frequently) and pop music.
