Why don't video game stores just have all the M rated games behind a curtain or something like movie rental places have for porn?
Even the most brain dead pillock who can't even read a bloody box will have their brain cells bump together and realize that if it's sectioned off, it's for a reason. Would this really be so hard to do? A single curtain with "rated M for mature" or something to that effect written in large letters on the wall above.
That's a good idea,
in theory. But in practice, it risks isolating a younger potential customer in the general audience.
After all, it's not Gamestop's problem that Little Timmy decided to buy a copy of Dead or Alive: Extreme (Xtreme? Starting it with an 'X' makes it sound radical or something, right?) they just care that they're accompanied by a guardian who
can buy the title, to ensure they don't get legally screwed. They're a business after all, and I'm sure they're not ready to do anything to intentionally harm their income.
Besides, we have the ESRB mandating what is and isn't appropriate to be on a box, so there
is a guideline of what is to be considered acceptable and not. So, there are no covers filled to the edges with nudity, hence why pornography, unlike mature video games,
is sectioned off.
In the end, it falls down to the parents, because there's only so much a game store can do and still manage to rake in sales.
