I laughed when I thought my 360 had fixed it's own red ring.

I got the 3 lights come up. Turned it off and left it for a day. When I turned it back on it was fine, but needed to update (Update from dashboard, not in a game). After realising that none of my friends had the update, I assumed that my 360 had fixed itself.

Couple of weeks later it red ringed again. But I got a free repair.

This got me thinking. Just out of nowhere. I wonder how E3 this year would've been if the xbox they used to showcase Alan Wake live demo got RROD.

Seeing as how I don't own a 360 I see a RROD as a good thing. Is it true 360s are not allowed near Peanut Butter because they are classified as "high risk"?

I think the security of knowing that now you're able to get a 360 with a greatly reduced failure rate is a good thing. Wouldn't say the RRoD is a wholesale 'good thing' though, since, y'know, it shouldn't really exist as prevalently as it does anyway.

RROD is only good, when your 360 also has another problem that doesn't fall under the warranty. Like damaging your discs.

Good if you kick up enough fuss. They send freebies as a means of apology if you're lucky.

I used to be a huge Xbox Fan and even when mine broke I didn't cry or go crazy. I just went "Ahh fuck, well I knew this would happen, whatever". And then I just gave up on it and bought a PS3, don't ask me why because it is a very long story.

Mine was sort of tittering on the edge of a red ring death for years. "Will it die this time, is it gonna work again when I restart it? I don't know." It held out for quite a while, and in a strange way I guess it was kind of a relief when it died, it had actually been getting much worse after I moved to my appartment (something about the outlet here, it was getting picky), so I had ordered a new Jasper which got here the day after the old one finally croaked on me. So yeah, I guess I can sort of relate to how, subjectively, it could seem like a good thing. If the first one had just not had any problems in the first place, I would have much prefered that though; woulda saved me some money in the long run.

I was mad the first time because I didn't really know of the Red Ring of Death, but the second time it broke, it wasn't that; it was the graphics card. I kept playing it with a faulty graphics card and it was like playing through an acid trip. It was pretty amusing. I even tried Viva Pinata just because it was more colorful.

I had a 360 bought at launch day of the console. It never gave me any problems for years until 2 months ago. It finally RRoD'd but it actually ended up being good for me. I was shipped a brand new console!(coulda been a refurbished i guess) So I upgraded my xbox for the low cost of 2 weeks wait time.

The new systems have a different motherboard and power supply in an attempt to fix RROD so most new systems bought in 2009 should be fine unless you were unfortunate enough to buy one of the old ones.

There is a way to tell without taking it apart, but I forget how.

Well, I think any time you pay $300 for something that ends up being defective, it's a bad thing. I am however glad to hear that you're taking it so well. I'd be pissed if it happened to me.
