If this is real, there's going to be a huge change in the gaming industry. Apple will then have to compete with activision and microsoft.

It doesn't sound likely to be honest. 40 Billion seems low for Sony given that Sony is not just a hardware manufacturer, but spread out accross dozens of industries such as music, movies, and other things.

EA on the other hand is just a computer game company, I don't believe they control anything else that isn't game related. Sure they are a big one, but I could see them being bought out in theory.

I could be wrong, but I've read stuff on Sony over the years, and yes they are losing money, but apparently they are one of the corperations that formed the basis for the "Evil Japanacorp" of Cyberpunk and Dark Future fiction. In Shadowrun terms they would be like Renraku.

On top of everything else I'd be surprised if they sold. I seem to remember when reading about them that Sony started as a company selling Rice Cookers, with it's founders making the plans for the business in the basement of a bombed out building during the final days of World War II. Part of their mission statement is actually racial and nationalistic where they exist to promote Japanese power and values globally along with seeking profits... which again is why they served to inspire so much fiction around the idea especially back in the 1980s when we were dealing with the "Japanacorp invasion".... of course I'm hardly an expert, I've just read some stuff about them over the years.

At any rate, this falls firmly under the "I'll believe it when I see it" catagory. I think we'd be far more likely to see Sony buying Apple.

Yeah, the day that happens, my newly rebranded "iPlaystation 3" is going in the garbage. And I sure wouldn't buy the "iPlaystation 4" that does nothing to advance the actual point of the machine (playing games) but oh look now you can pick it up and shake it to launch a random game from your library and it includes Facetime support at the "low" price of $999.99 for the 16GB model and &4,999.99 for the 64GB model. And don't even think about getting the model with a 3G antenna. Oh and of course buttons are gone so it will be all Kinect style games all the time.

Although I doubt Sony would let Apple buy them. Plus EA and Sony are just about in bed together, so maybe it'd be a catfight of Sony telling Apple to stay away from her man or something.

Anyway I really hope not. Get bent Apple, stick to making your shiny overpriced fad devices and leave the gaming to the professionals.

If this happens it would be amazing. I would love for apple to appear on the gaming scene in a real way.

Why teh fuck do they have 51 billion dollars of spending money?!

WTF?
Look at the iPad. That tech can't possibly cost nearly enough to justify the $600 price tag on the lowest end model, and just for adding in a 3G antenna the charge something like an extra $130. And it's not even free 3G to justify it, you still have to go to AT&T and buy a plan.
Also go look at their online store's computer section. Look at the specs and then look at the prices.

In other words, Apple has $51 billion because they overprice the fuck out of every product they sell and make a huge profit when all the people who follow the "I'll buy almost anything if it's shiny and made by Apple" (cookie for the reference) school of thought buy them anyway.

Still waiting on that Macbook Wheel. Though seriously if Apple buys a gaming copy thats gonna blow so much. All of their shit is overpriced and half the time just a re-release but smaller sized.

i'd love to see it happen, because the xbox 360 would have no chance with apple and sony teaming up against it.
As much as I love my PS3 I would throw it in the nearest bin if Apple bought it. Sony made a loss on every PS3 sold at release and it was still expensive, could you imagine how much it would cost with apples philosophy behind it?

OK, stop it. There are no sources here, just wild speculation.

Apple is in consumer electronics, they don't care about software other than how it leverages their stuff.

And all of the random hating on either side isn't going to change reality.

Uhhh...What?

I call BS.

I highly doubt Adobe will allow itself to be bought by Apple in the first place.

I call shenanigans. Even after reading the article. I don't think apple has that kind of money. and a PS4 that was made by apple just makes me shudder, we might start looking back and saying, "man i wish this system only cost $600... and played games."
