Rumored Tech Specs Give Wii 2 More Power Than Xbox 360

Considering the tech gap that is already beyond Grand Canyon since the current consoles came out, it shouldn't be hard at all to produce something that is better than the 360. One would think that is the frikkin point of upgrading in the first place.
It reportedly includes a three-core custom IBM PowerPC CPU, an ATI R700 GPU, and 512 MB of RAM.
NASA isn't even using tech that old for their current systems which they use dated. If this is Nintendo's idea of an upgrade, then they get a big FAIL stamped over their brand.
When the 360 came out, it was on par with mid-level PC gaming power people expected at that time. I thought Japan was all about raising the bar for tech?

If this is speculation, these people need to do better research.

These "Wii 2" rumors are getting out of hand, especially since they OFFICIALLY SAID there ISN'T GOING TO BE A WII 2. Yes, they'll make a new console eventually, but not "Wii 2" or "Wii hd".
After time, one comes to learn that Official doesn't always equal Set In Stone.

This is your chance Nintendo. Give us a real controller.
They had one, with the N64. I was comfortable and quite useable. But they threw that out thinking the original XBox controllers were awesome.
Though maybe that is N's thinking. These video controllers will actually be laptops you attach to the console. You heard it here first, folks!

Atleast Cafe sounds better than Wii.
But I think the gamedeveloppers from nintendo can't handle making nice graphics ( I kid :D )

Oh gosh.... -_-

Well, lets see how this developes. I'm ready for new consoles, but if the Wii2 can only boast being better than a 6-7 year old console, color me skeptical.

I should hope it would be more powerful than a 7 year old system.

Well, with Nintendo, it's hard to be sure.

However, this would be a large technical leap compared to last gen. The Wii was supposed to be twice as powerful as the GC, and people more technically mindful than I tore that to pieces....So a leap putting it above the 360 might seem newsworthy just because....It's Nintendo.

Though it also makes me wonder. The controller sounds awful expensive from a company that tends to sell hardware for as little a loss (or even possibly profit) as possible. Wonder how much one of those will run.
That was how I reacted to the headline: I was mildly impressed because it is Nintendo.

The controller does sound rather complex for being a controller, but of course there has to be some little "innovation" that a year later everyone will shrug their shoulders at while staring in awe at the capabilities presented by Nintendo's competition. I hope that these aren't the true specs because beating out the 360 at this point is a laughable feat at best, coupled with Nintendo's apparent inability to utilize power over pretense (see motion control).

So the first console of the next generation is rumored to be more powerful than those of this generation? This isn't saying all that much.

This could work out very well for Nintendo. Consider that Microsoft is apparently looking to 2015 for the next Xbox, pushing the 360 for an unusually long lifetime. If Nintendo can get it out sooner... It will clearly be no match for the next Xbox, but if Nintendo has a Wii2 on the market with as much power as the 360 it's competing against for a year or two before the next box is out, it'll be too late.

Enter the race looking like what you should have been last gen might just sign the death warrant on nintendo.
You mean the Nintendo that makes a profit instead of taking a loss on each hardware unit sold and has sold mountains of Wiis and DS systems (and has done pretty decently for 3DS sales so far too)? Yeah, they're in their deathbed alright. Another affordable console that they'll make a profit off of from launch day will be the final nail in their coffin.

That, or they'll have to get a bigger indoor swimming pool to accommodate all that new money they'll get. One of the two, you know.
My dad bought Wii Fit last week. My dad.

That's really all there is to say on the matter of Nintendo's financial security.

I love how people ***** about this speculation about a speculation.
When are you guys and girls going to realize that Nintendo didn't announce anything? NOTHING is confirmed jet.

Those hardware specs... yeah, they could be better, but don't need to. Since PS 3 and xbox 360 will stay on the market for several more years, developers won't make better games just to downgrade them for the PS and Xbox. They would make weaker games which would make the new N-console unused. Have you guys learned anything from the PC/console porting problem?. A standard gaming PC is several times more powerful then PS3, but the games look the same as on the PS3. Why? Because it's easier to make a weaker game, then later just add better looking textures. Crysis 1, a game made for the PC, old several years is still THE game if we look at the graphics.
(I just hope the next Battlefield proves me wrong. They are going to make it for the PC, and then downgrade it for the consoles)

Also, I'm not sure what to think about the controller. Although the touch screen could be really useful, it sounds like it would be HUGE. I mean, just the screen is 6 inch. The controller will be then at least 8 to 10.

But it does seem like it could be really useful if they make it a normal touch screen, not HD (overkill).

That would open a door for RTS games on consoles. Easier and faster selecting, faster moving over the map, be creative.

FPS, make the screen show some basig stats (ammo, hp, armor...), and abuse the fact that is similar to a mouse on a PC and allow the player to make fast 90+ degree turns. FPS was always better on PC (IMO) just because of the fact that you can easily make fast turns, look around faster.... it's faster, more action packed...

RPG and adventure. here it could be used so much that it's to great to skip.
Allowing faster usage of your inventory, switching equipment, map, faster interaction in shops and chats. A chat has 4 options? Split the screen in 4 ( + ) and they player can easily select an option without turning from the screen. Sell and buy easier with drag and drop on the screen, same as using equipment. But the best part is that you can switch items/equipment and use them without even breaking the action.

Fighting games.... remember those Tekken combo's? Those back, back, square, up, circle, down ,X .... etc...? yeah, what about allowing you to predefine some action with writing symbols of your liking on the screen? Like, you write a V on the screen, he does a nice long combo? Pressing 20 buttons in a row isn't hard nor is it skill. It's just annoying. yeah, it could be to powerful, simply put some limitations.

The screen still allows games similar to those from the DS. Which is a nice plus.

tl.dr:
1. Stop bitching, it's not even officially announced. For all we know, it could be completely fake and Nintendo won't make a new console until 2015.
2. Hardware specs aren't higher since developers won't make a game that will use the hardware. Same problem that we have on PC's. Much stronger then consoles but games look the same or only a bit better.
3. Although I'm worried that the controller would be too big, Nintendo's inovation is what keeps the game industry going forward. N64, first 64 bit processor used in a console (afaik) and first real 3D graphics. Gamecube, best hardware in that generation, tried several new stuff, like combining the GameBoy with consoles, using GameBoys as controllers. GameBoy, best hendheald.
DS, brought touch screen to us. Notice that Apple started using it AFTER the HUGE success of the DS? After that, every smartphone starts using TS (to shorten it).
3DS, 3D without glasses.
Wii, motion sensors. People can ***** about Nintendo for many things, but not for innovation, creativity and fun. In those parts, Nintendo is THE King. (no I don't mean Elvis, nor Jackson).

Damn.... even my tl.dr is to long......

When did Microsoft say this? Sony have said they have a "10 year plan" for the PS3, but I'll be amazed if the PS3 lasts that long and doubly amazed if Microsoft don't release a new console before the end of 2013.

Umm, so whats the problem? It doesn't matter if its real or not, the rumour itself is a stupid idea, and thus we're mocking the idea itself.
The problem is that people trashtalk Nintendo about something they didn't do, say, announce...
Don't trashtalk about Nintendo, ***** about they speculation it self and/or about the one who is speculating.

Yeah, with Nintendo, it was even odds on whether it would be as powerful as the 360. XD

I kid, but Wii really did feel like last gen's console plus motion controls. Speaking of, when they do bring out their next gen device, I hope there is something behind their pretense. I'm still miffed that we needed an add-on a couple years later to get these "innovative" controllers to do what they were supposed to in the first place.

I don't mind the "innovations," but I was unimpressed by the Wii's and the 3DS' upgrades. I think motion controls COULD be good, but Nintendo never made me feel theirs were. And 3D still strikes me as a passing novelty, a gimmick in the most shallow sense.

I also felt that the Wii was not an overall major work towards progress for Nintendo systems. The Gamecube was such a growing dissapointment as the years passed and Nintendo failed to produce much that could remotely match the N64's charm. Even before the Wii-motion gimmick outcry started - before there was even a Wii for that matter - I began associating Nintendo's idea of "innovation" as nothing more than either experimenting with a proven formula that shouldn't be messed with or outright didn't need any "innovations" to transform it into something else. Furthermore, Nintendo pursued until my very end with the system, switching to an Xbox for something fresh for a change.

I really yearn for that magic N64 time and I feel it would be great if Nintendo would wake up and realize that being the "different" console with its motion control or 3D or whatever means nothing if it cannot back that all up with being long-lasting and loaded with games that make it worthwhile. I don't want to see Mario playing badminton with Sonic (in 3D, woo), I want to see games that are the modern Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, ect. and put those to shame in sheer enjoyment. While I never played the N64 version, they had Conker's Bad Fur Day, for crying out loud! I know Rare's with Microsoft now, but come on Nintendo!
