Nope. The Escapist has as much disdain for the game as they do for CoD. I personally think it's an alright game. Played it for a good few years, then stopped playing for a year or so, then went back to it. Havent played it for about a month, too busy.

I wouldn't mention the 'R' word on the Escapist. Runescape isn't too popular around here, and for good reason.

was really THE game of me and many others when we were young. at the time i thought it was amazing, but i stopped, because they never updated the free-to-play content.

If I ever go back on Runescape, it'll be with the following steps in mind:

1) Hack to get infinite monies
2) Buy millions of everything on the grand exchange
3) Watch as hyperinflation begins and Runescape turns into post-ww1 Germany

I have a level 90 odd on there.

The game would be good with improved combat and much less grind.

The quests for that game are really good, surprisingly. The graphics have also come along way!

I think that game gets far too much hate, it's not that offensive. It kind of keeps itself to itself, unlike WoW, which is constantly talked about.

It's like everybody knows about it and it will always be there for nostalgia's sake.

I have an on / off relationship for it, every 6 months or so I'll feel "the call" and get sucked back into it for a month, then I'll lose interest again.
I think it's a great game though, I've just spent way too much time on there, and it makes me neglect my newer games.

Good times. I was addicted to that game when I was like 12. First and only MMO I've played...and got addicted to... shut up I was 12. Is it the same as it was 6 years ago?

I played it. I can't necessarily say it was great, but it's a nice timesink.

One of these days, I might feel motivated enough to pick up one of my five characters stagnating in the F2P area and play again, but I doubt it. XBL is my new online passion.

My brother has recently got back into it and it's still the same but a lot has changed if you know what i mean, graphics seem better, better systems for things etc...

But i don't really understand the hate for it, can somebody explain it to me?
I really quite enjoyed it when i played it, but i left when it had a spout of no updates.

I played it in Junior High when everyone else in my class did. It was weird that a video game was popular at the time especially an RPG. I didn't really like it very much, I only ever got to around Level 30-something with my Mage character. I preferred the more ludicrous Artix Entertainment games like Adventure Quest...

Ah I remember that one, used to 'play' it. A very good way to organize your music library since all you do is putting auto attack on and sit back.

As for now however

I don't understand either, maybe because it's browser based and therefore "too casual" for this hardcore bunch of guys.

It has a grind that puts Korean MMOs to shame. "Over 25,000 hours of game play!" indeed. The level of boredom associated with that much grinding is a war crime in 57 countries. Other than that, it's a decent game. I've never seen an MMO match Runescape's quest, skill, and player-housing systems. Damn shame about that grinding though.
