I remember Runescape. Played it a TON when I was younger. The grind was terrible but I actually enjoyed some of the quests. As I got older I decided there were better ways to spend my time than having my virtual avatar doing the same task over and over again. I loved talking to people, loved the quests but that grind was just too much toward the end (a funny fact someone told me on there - from lv1-lv92 is about the same experience as from lv92-99. How's that for a grind!).
Word. I havent played ina couple of years, but I used to really enjoy it. By the way, what you say is true. Also, 1-99 is the same as doing 1-76 ten times! Too much, imo. Shame really.

Ah, Runescape. About twice a week I consider subscribing again, and I probably subscribe for two months a year (usually around December and some time in the summer, the common element being that I have a lot of free time around then). I've spent over 3000 hours of time in the game, and I don't regret it all. Yes, the game is a huge grind, but that's something that I like about it -- I'm one of those people who really enjoys trying to figure out ways to make playing more efficient and to squeeze more results out of a short amount of time. As long as I don't try to spend, say, 6 hours at a time grinding, it never really reaches the point where I start to hate it. Also, yes, 92-99 is the same amount of experience as 1-92, but I sure would hope that you get better at leveling by the time you get up there. Also, you don't really need 99 in, well, pretty much anything (there are only a few where it's useful), so I don't think that's as huge of an issue as everyone tries to make it.

I'm surprised that I've only seen a little real hate spewing towards the game here -- I honestly expected to see this turn into a flame war by now.

I don't understand the hate for it, for it's price it's pretty good, sure the graphics suck but even the free account has more content then most other MMOs in the five dollar price bracket. I used to play Runescape I even had a paid account a few times only for a month or to at a time, so pretty much till I got bored with it and didn't want to touch it for a few years. The main problem with the game is the rewards for 40+ skills are to far apart but till then I enjoyed playing it.

OT: I'm to busy to get in to any MMO right now.

Yeah, I used to play RuneScape. Got to level 89 on one profile, then tried to get 99 Hunting. Got to level 73 and couldn't bare it anymore, especially after I found a skilling calculator and realized the experience to get you from level 1 to level 73 is around 20% of the total experience you need to get to level 99.

After that, I just couldn't find anything to do anymore, so I quit. But like anyone else has already said, the quests are actually really well done. Since RuneScape was my first experience with RPG's, it surprised me when I first played games like Fallout 3 and thought to myself "They consider this a quest?"

I still go to the RuneScape Wiki and check out the story lines for the quests and such. But that's about my only connection to the game anymore.

Well, that and my friend and I sometimes organize get-togethers in RuneScape just to talk.

Oh, and fuck this website's Captcha.
