I know and understand a lot of people hate RS, and think it is a kids game. I disagree.

I used to play quite often back in the 8th grade (six years ago), and i stopped playing after the 8th grade because my account was hacked. So i said "Fuck it, i'm done with this game... for now". Well I have been extremely bored lately and looking for something to kill time with. Out of curiosity i went over to Runescape web page just to see what is all new, and what not. Then i proceeded my self to say "I'm bored... why not? I'll give it another go". Boy was that the biggest mistake I've made in my past six years. Whattya know, I'm sucked back into this addicting game. That's a good thing and a bad thing... It's fun and kills time... But it also takes a lot of time from my day, because of the ridiculous exp rates.

What do you guys think of Runescape? Also, Free trade and the Wildy is coming back for anyone who cares.

Inb4 WoW > Runescape - Yes i have had my fair share of WoW. I'm just taking a good break from that game because my life was slowly being ruined by it.

Inb4 Runescape sucks

Inb4 op can't inb4

well, i used to play runescape up until about a month ago, when i had gotten all my stats high enough it took a week of solid grinding just to level up. its an ok game, but I certainly prefer vindictus, or even EVE

Totally, bro.

Runescape is not bad at all for a free game. Definitely a good thing to kill time with. But i do agree that there are far better MMO's out there.

WoW being my favorite.

I'd completed every quest, and got very very bored very very quickly.
The game isn't just about completing quests, lol.

There is tons of Professions you can take up to make cash, and level up.

There is also
-Minigames
-PvP
-Wilderness
-Tons of other shit to do that i can't honestly think of every single thing

I got bored of it pretty fast, Its just so...Univiting to me.

I dunno what about it that puts me off, but still. It might be that its click wait click wait for almost every action. Same with flyff (to an extent) and I stopped playing that pretty quick iswell.

Now for some reason, pressing that ctrl button for maplestory gives me THRILLS.

It's my time killing game, I usually play it over summer holidays when I have about 5 months of nothing to do. I live in the middle of nowhere and live miles from any of the friends I'd actually want to visit so holidays are usually filled with nothing but free time. Runescape is simple, low involvement (can just sit back, watch a movie and click).

I guess I play it more as an IM service with gameplay rather than an actual game.

It's decent though, it doesn't deserve the hate it gets. But then again the majority hate seems to be from one of two groups, the "too cool for games" group and the "more complex MMO is more betterer" group who don't seem to grasp the concept of sitting back and doing very little in a game and would prefer to be raiding on WoW or something..

Runescape is good for a browser MMO, even visually its not that bad. It has great quests, I'd even go so far as to say some of the best I've ever seen in an MMO. Also it has a ton of content if you're willing to pay for it.

That being said, its a total grindfest, probably the best out there haha.. and theres not a great deal of variety in the combat. But I still had fun with it 'back in the day'.

i must say even the eve mining "animation" is better than the runescape one.

its a good time sink for a free game. But there are better MMOs out there, and in runescape you cant fly space ships

I used to play it when I was younger, also when I was at school. Quite liked it. Used to mine ore and smith armour, then sell it on with multi-coloured flashing speech text. It's always funny when someone would try to trade you feathers for mithril armor.

I concur. It really doesn't deserve the hate it receives. It's not a bad game at all. More younger groups of people play it, so the haters automatically assume its a game that only kids play. I disagree. I'm 19, and I play.

Come at me Haters.

Have you seen the Engine lately for Runescape? I was actually a bit shocked. They upgraded the graphics A LOT.

Still not great graphics, but what do you wan't for a F2P MMO? Even though I P2P because you get so much more stuff to do.

I played it when it was popular at my school. I must admit: I enjoyed it at first. But when I hit the mid-twenty mark I realised I was doing the same thing ad nauseum, and quit just about there and then.
Why do you want to "kill" time? You should be savouring it!

"Not bad for a free browser mmo" look how huge it is that speaks for itself. but why i think its a kids game is becouse i played it for a wile and it seems that all it takes to be great is time. being the badass of the land is pure how mutch time you spend.
but i confess i dropped-out before end game.

I'm 20 and the same applies. It was a game my by Uni Students doing ICT and Game Design, for people of their age. Just because it happened to be fairly kid friendly doesn't mean it's a kids game. People don't call CoD a kids game even though I've heard my fair share of squeaky voiced swearing over that...

Back as a kid I played Runescape, and I still remember those good times :D

The reason I enjoyed Runescape was that there is so much more to the game than combat. And the combat can be fabulous if you don't grind.
As you lose all but 3 valuable items, death isn't exactly forgiving when you are running with expensive gear. This makes all the big- level bosses rather exciting; they present real danger, and always reward you with drops or completion of a quest.
Also, I felt that the areas were way better designed than in most MMO's. I usually feel like cities are only places to buy and sell gear, but in Runescape they felt less hollow. Might just be my personal opinion, though.
Just to mention, compared to most MMO's Runescape, ages old free-to-play browser game, is ages ahead of other MMO's in quest design. I don't remember a single quest of "kill 10 boars" or "fetch 10 feathers". The quests usually were rather long and rewarding.

I have lately thought of trying it again. The only real resons I haven't is that 1) I don't want to do it all again and 2) I don't see the community as good, and the players of a MMO make a big part of what the game is like.
