Sacrifice Yourself For The Earth.

We've all seen it. The hero sacrificing himself for earth and all of its citizens. We've seen Goku do it in Dragonball Z and the protagonist do it in Fallout 3(if you got the good ending).

So my question is if the earth was ending but there was a way that you could stop it but it meant dying would you sacrifice yourself for the earth? Why would you? Or why wouldn't you? If someone else could do it would you let them kill themselves instead? Should the earth really be saved?

Of course the Earth should Fecking be saved, you've really earned extinction when you can't even embrace self preservation. As a species anyway. I would sacrifice myself to save humanity. Preferably by leading a last ditch Viper assault on the Cyclon homeworld/colony.
