I find it hard to wrap my mind around the idea that anyone could say 'no' if it actually came down to it. One life for billions. It's no question at all.

Hell, I put my life in danger a couple of years back coming to the rescue of some poor bastard who was being beaten to death in the street by two junkies while about a dozen other people just stood there like it was happening on telly rather than right in front of them. The only acknowledgment I got was the ambulance man telling me to get out of the way so they could scrape him off the road and examine his massive cranial injuries. I didn't even pause to think that I'm eight stone of nothing with arms like pipe cleaners- I can't just stand there when other people are threatened. I have to get involved. Maybe I read too many superhero comics.

Let me phrase the question a tad differently. A Neo-Hitler comes along, and he wants to kill all the Jews, and has the capacity to. Should he be stopped? Or say there is some super-villian who has discovered a way to kill all the toddlers in the world. If you think they should be stopped, then remember that saving humanity will save all of them, plus many, many more. "Humans are all worthless and evil" is such a tired, pretentious cliche, don't fall for it.
