Just tears me up, not to mention that it's an obvious sign that excellent game is basically over, which is enough to invoke tears all on it's own, a rare event.
I don't understand how anyone can even feel sympathy for The Joker or even like him, he's just a psychopath.

OT: The first time I were about to snap a picture of the kids being transported in boxes in Beyond Good and Evil...that music is haunting.

MGS may be 90% cut scenes, but still... it gets in your blood.
I'll always remember the plots of the MGS games, where I've forgotten so many other games
Gah, that end scene had me in tears.
Other than that, games have a habit of killing off my favourite characters, so I'm getting more used to that now. I figure they're doomed.
Also, I played Dead Rising 2 'OTR' recently, and seeing Chuck without Katey brought a lump to my throat. And he's still the best character in it.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness's climax comes to mind. No, I'm serious.

You'd gone to the past to fight what amounts to the god of time and space, kicked the crud out of it, and stopped its batshit crazy rampage. You head back down to resume your life of harrowing adventure with your cute Pokemon buddy that you've had with you the whole game, but along the way you experience some unexpected side effects: because you've stopped the time god's tirade, you've changed history, and since its actions were directly responsible for your being in the first place, you've retconned yourself from existence. Your friend, whom you've given strength and courage, made into a great adventurer and finder of mysterious treasures, helped make them who they always wanted to be, watches you fade from existence, and balls their little eyes out, begging you, their best friend, the only person that didn't treat them like a craven loser, who gave them a chance to make something of themselves, not to go. You try to reassure them and make them be brave, but you ultimately just leave them there sobbing, alone.

It was the fucking saddest thing I'd ever seen in a video game that I can think of, and it happened in a Pokemon game, for crying out loud, a series that lives off of useless excuse plots. Color me shocked.

Ugh, I need to go blow my nose. Damn you, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon!
This game right here. A cutesy adventure game somehow delivered one of the biggest tear-jerkers I'd ever come across.

Also, the ending to Professor Layton and the Lost Future was an incredibly sad ending, as it also ties together all the main characters' motivations:

"We had... so many plans for the future. Do you remember, Herschel? I'll miss you... and our lost future."

Dupre's death in Ultima 7 pt. 2: The Serpent Isle and Eli Vance's on HL2EP2.

The latter is why I hate Valve so much for STILL not letting us take sweet revenge.

First, people like the Joker BECAUSE he's a psychopath, and a damn good one at that. Second, that's why I said "otherwise I'd be glad", if it were just some Psycho that came out of nowhere, I'd enjoy seeing them dead, but Joker may be a complete monster, but he's such a effective and entertaining monster that's also been around forever that I can't help but tear up when he dies. It's like when you're absolute favorite show ever is cancelled, you hate to see it go, despite the flaws.

The end of Red Dead Redemption. Possibly one of the greatest endings I have ever seen. The first to make me tear up. They took the character that you had grown to love, put him in an unescapable and (when you think about it) pointless situation, and killed him. Many tears were shed. I still miss you, Mr. Marston.

That moment when I realised I paid sixty bucks for this shit.

No, I did not read through seven pages to see if anyone beat me to the obvious joke.

I'm a sucker for any 'dead parent' scenario, especially DA2 as i watched the cutscene unfold iwas literally shouting 'NO NO NO NOT AFTER BETHANY NO GODDAMNIT' and Tali's scene in ME2 gets every time. Even as a heartless renegade i couldn't not hit the interrupt button.

Not sure about saddest, but the I found that the ending of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories hit me pretty hard, especially considering that I'm a bit of a daddy's girl in real life..

EDIT: In that vein, the Elite Beat Agents mission "You're the Inspiration" is a considerable punch to the gut as well...

When I played Red Dead Redemption for the first time, I would have said the ending. But when I replayed it a couple months back, what struck me, was the last mission where you go to Bonnie. The apprihensive look and the kick in the dust made me shed one tear.

The thing that got me, was the fact that Batman said, "You know what's funny? I would have saved you." That alone makes me feel for the Clown Prince of crime.

Also the fact that he his last words were laughter. That's how you die like a bad ass.

Plenty of games have moments I think are sad. Some games have moments that I feel sad during. Only one game has had me come close to actually crying. That game is Nier.

Pretty much the entire second half, but in particular

The second time through the desert area where the mute girl get's killed during her wedding and the entire scene following. This was interesting because not only was it in a made up language, but I didn't even have the subtitles on.

Also pretty much the entire final assault, specifically the mask people fighting the boar demon. Damn those masked people, making me feel bad.

The final scene in brothers in arms hells highway,
Red is crippled, Corrion will never forgive baker and Baker himself is begining to be unable to cope with the pressure of leading his men, begining to hallucinate about the people he couldn't save. This is on top of all the deaths so far.
Woulda been sadder if Baker was actually a competent squad leader.

Anyway, yeah, Portal 2 a little, DXHR a lot, Bioshock good ending, Bioshock 2 good ending right up to the last 90 seconds, Max Payne 2 a little, kinda Far Cry 2. And in DX1 when a certain bomb goes off, I got really mad because I thought you could save him (Oh my God, JC, a bomb!) but it turns out I didn't do the right thing. That's the nice thing about games: the fact that you control what goes on makes your actions carry more weight(though I did kill Mr. Renton like 20 times trying to get the 'what a shame' line.)

Oh and yes on the Republic Commando sequel.

Persona 4 when...

Nanako dies.

I cryed like a *****. I really didn't want to play the game after that moment.
i know that feeling, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, I actually had to give myself a bit to calm down before I could play again.

But then she came back alive and I was so happy, damn you Persona for making me feel xD

Not really, the whole point is that he is a good guy who is way in over his head and can't cope, so he tries to do the right thing but it keeps going wrong. That is way sadder than the cookie cutter 'I did everything perfect but god is conspiring to put drama into this scene.'
